Hello & Welcome to Frau Holle Cottage.
So glad you're here for a visit! My name is Calypso and my husband Gus and I would love to welcome you to our little home/cottage in Southern California. We are nestled at the foothills of a small mountain range, and we love it here. We have lived here for almost 2 years this June. We love our home/cottage so much, that we decided to give it a name. We settled on the name of Frau Holle Cottage after German Goddess of Winter. You see.....our first Winter here at Frau Holle Cottage was Magical. We received 3 or 4 days of snow, and everyone said that they had not seen that much snow in 20 years in town. It does snow here but it usually melts quickly. I was thrilled because I adore the season of Winter because for us living in Southern California, snow is a treat.....unless of course you live in the upper mountain communities.

=== In today's video, Gus and I visited a local park in the town of Redlands California. Redlands is 1 town over from us. We visit this park often when we are in Redlands. We like to visit Sprouts Grocery store and pick us up some sandwiches there and take them to Prospect Park.
It was a beautiful day and I have to say that the temps were a bit on the warm side. Close to 90 degrees. June is heating up.
On our way home, we like to take the scenic route through Redlands Orange groves. Once home I got busy unpacking some groceries and then I started making some pickled Okra.
Pickled Okra Recipe - In an old 1-quart pickled jar or 1 quart mason jar, fill with your veges of choice. In mine I am adding Okra, Red Bell Pepper, Carrot and Dill. When the water and vinegar boils. pour it over top of your veges until your jar is full. Seal Jar and place in fridge and enjoy in a couple hours, Lasts for 2 weeks in fridge.
LIQUID -1 cup distilled white vinegar - 1 cup of water - 1 1/2 tsp or more if you like but add a little at a time - 1 tsp of Chili Flakes - boil all these ingredients on the stove.

Hi Sharon!! Yes- our mountains are so pretty. I’m a true mountain girl. 🩵 Yes if you eat a little sauerkraut in tie morning or every meal, it’s so beneficial for probiotics. I love canned sauerkraut but they say if you make your own, it’s super healthy.

The mountains close by you are stunning. That sandwich & salad worked an appetite up for me. I love sauerkraut but never thought to have it as a breakfast food, I will certainly do that. I love that tour kitchen cabinets are scalloped at the bottom.

You are a treasure! I love your vlogs and I am so enjoying getting to know you through them! I tried my hand at pickles one year, I was raised on a farm and we never bought a lot from a grocery store growing up. My mom was from Kentucky and boy could she cook and can! She passed before I was able to learn how to canned or make pickles, but my dad wanted me to try one year my grandmothers recipe for pickles and they didn’t turn out so good lol😂. I think I might try your pickle idea though because I sure do love anything pickled. I also love sauerkraut, and my dad and I did make sauerkraut we made sauerkraut every year, so I definitely know how to to do that although I have to say, I didn’t like the process that my dad used very much it made everything smells so bad lol but it did taste really good. We used to joke and tell everyone that the secret to my dad sauerkraut was his old socks Lol cause that’s what it smelled like but everybody loved it and I sure do miss it. We used to make her own horseradish to now that was a chore. Well I think that’s enough commenting for this video. I’m gonna go watch another one. I’m definitely enjoying your videos!❤
