I've hiked the trail at the top of those cliffs quite a few times. I can't imagine seeing/hearing the cliff edge drop off. Thank you for sharing this!

Amazing footage and even more amazing timing!!!! Look at the piles of boulders at the base of the cliff. Rock falls are a common occurrence along the Pictured Rocks shoreline but it happens over the span of thousands of years. Human beings generally have difficulty understanding the concept of time on a geological scale.

Steve Tocco that’s a great point. I paddle the shoreline there often enough to know it well. I’ve kayaked there at least twice every season going on 10 years now, and while I’ve seen this happen once it was on a much smaller scale, maybe 5% of this size. It still makes me think that I’ve seen enough from close-up!

@@timomomomo969 I've never kayaked at the Pictured Rocks but I have stood on the top of that cliff. Here's an interesting question: which location would be better to be at during this kind of rock fall??? It's the proverbial Hobson's Choice...in other words, a "choice" in which only one thing is offered--certain DEATH!!!! LOL! Be safe out there on the water!!!

What would compel someone to dislike a video of a natural event? "Gonna have to give this a hard no, that cliff should know better than to fall down."

Hmmm... Next time I paddle at Pictured Rocks N.L., I may not paddle quite so close to the cliffs...

I was thinking the same thing. I was there two days before this and took most of the day exploring close to the rocks from Miners Beach to Chapel Beach and back, ducking behind slabs and into shallow caves as always. I think this happens pretty rarely but I also think I may have seen enough from close-up.

I cant be the only one that doesnt suspect the drone's incessant high-pitched whiny sound as maybe possibly been a trigger for settin off even the tiniest of vibrations that was just enough to start this cool 'natural' phenomena.

It was a glitch in the camera. When we posted this video as unlisted, it got 100,000 clicks before we went public & can't edit it in anyway .... Thanks RU-vid for this dumb limitation. I would like to add sound too ... can't.

How did you get permission to fly your drone in a national park?
@dustinfeigel5219
@dustinfeigel5219 5 лет назад
The national park is on land, the drone is over water, hence it makes it all good.
@areenders
@areenders 5 лет назад
@@dustinfeigel5219 the no fly zone extends over the water.
@gtpjon
@gtpjon 5 лет назад
You cannot operate, take-off & land within the park parameters that are 1/4 mile out. But the drone is legal. Park service personally told us so : ) It is NOT a no fly zone.
