I know I'm late here by about 5 years, but I just started watching your videos. I LOVE to bake. I can make just about anything EXCEPT pie crust never turned out right until I made this recipe. My husband who never eats pie crust at all even ate this and said how good it was. I think people just make this much more complicated than need be. You made it simple and gave easy directions and I will NEVER make any other crust. Thank you Becky !!!
Thank you and welcome to the Hillbilly Kitchen 😊 My Granny taught me to cook and she said, turn the heat on and throw something in the pot. That's how you cook and it ain't no harder that that." God Bless You!
I know these are old videos, but thank you for making these. I didnt have a mama or a grandma to teach me these homemade recipes and it's nice to finally learn. :)
Lady you are a rockstar. A busy wife and mom of many and yet make everything homade, even take the time to share. The joy of the Lord is your strength and it shows. God bless you and keep you.
Viola, a true woman of substance: Your whole show is just the bees-knees! It makes me think of my wife's beloved grandmother, Viola. She was a country girl from the back woods of Virginia. While she followed her husband to Washington DC, her life proved the saying: "You can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl. Every Thanksgiving and Easter we gathered around her table, feasted on her sumptuous country cooking, and enjoyed such fellowship that even today, decades later, I remember them all as something like the wedding supper of the lamb, only here on earth. The special thing about Viola's table was watching her so deeply enjoy her family gathered about her as we enjoyed her meals. At times you could see a fleeting expression wash across her face. It was the look of a woman fully enjoying the fruit of her womb as she delighted in the conversation of her children, grandchildren and their spouses, a woman taking pleasure in the fruit of her labor in a well-dressed table and a sumptuous meal. It was the look of supreme satisfaction. Viola was a blessed woman. Thank you for your show. You honor the LORD, as did our Viola. No doubt one day your children and your children's children will rise up and call you blessed as I too rise up and call our Viola blessed, and a woman of true virtue.
Hi Becky, I'd love to see you make an egg custard pie or coconut cream 🥧 I absolutely love those two as well along with the chocolate, I absolutely love watching your cooking videos
Excellent pie crust recipe and instructions. Been looking for this for years. You put fork holes in the crust exactly like my Mom and Aunts did. Thank you so much for resurrecting so much of our food culture that many people really want to bury and never let surface again.
I am so glad I found your channel. I remember my grand mother making the best pie crust ever made, and I knew she always used butter. She would use rhat crust for her homemade pies and cobblers. I particularly loved her chocolote pie and puddings, and her peach cobbler. She cooked the chocolate filling just the way your other video teaches. It was wonderful! And her cobbler was to die for. I thought she had forever took those recipes with her to the grave until I discovered your channel. Thank you! Too, you have so many other recipes for delicious food she made. I look forward to cooking them all.
👍🍰Butter crust pies are delux! Becky this relaxed preparation demonstration is first hand encouragement towards anyone intimidated by pie crust making!👌 Beth, faithfully and cheerfully Subscribed in N.W.Montana
I know this video was made years ago, but after making a pizza pie crust tonight, this is a great opportunity to learn to make a pizza crust out of what you’re doing. Thank you, Becky.
If lard isn't used, butter is certainly a tasty alternative. I think either one would make an edible and enjoyable crust. Love this lady and the way she incorporates Scripture and her love for The LORD JESUS! Wishing you and your families a blessed holy season.
My Gramma did all this stuff but used two butter knives pulled from opposer directions to cut up the butter and mix the ice water into the crust until she could form a ball. From the time I was little , she let me cut in the butter. My favorite memory of her.
I love💜💚💜 that tip on transferring the crust to the pie shell & doing the flip! I think I will try it with vanilla cream pie! Thank you Becky. GOD BLESS.
Great job with this demonstration Becky! Pie crust is one of THE hardest things to do right in the culinary world! It has scant few ingredients, but it's not as simple as it looks! Most people cannot just whip up a pie crust, not one that's good any way! ;-) Ted
I've been making your chocolate pie now for a few years and I have to make for my family every since the first time I tried it, including a separate one I have to make for my oldest grandson!! They all love it ...so thank you ma'am!!!
What a great tip about putting it on plastic wrap to keep it from breaking as you pick it up to put in the pie pan I never would have thought about that and what a great recipe thank you for all you do and I'm so sorry for your loss
I cant imagine someone not eating the pie crust. That's the best part of pie. Atleast to me, I always eat the center then the crust. You get 2 treats that way.
well I'm going to try this again. I liked that you used your mixer. I always had trouble with my pie crusts and you make it look really easy. I want to make a chicken pot pie tomorrow and I also have rhubarb frozen in my freezer.
I stumbled onto your channel when I was looking for a yeast roll recipe which I loved. I grew up in Texas and your recipes are the closest I can get to my Grandmother's recipes she passed when I was young so I don't have recipes that she used until now. You and your recipes are a heaven sent Thank you for given me some memories of my childhood forever a fan.
I had no idea I could use my stand mixer to make pie crust. I just figured that butter would never mix. I'm making an apple pie tomorrow, so I'll try this. Big hugs to you Becky! Give Charlotte a hug too! P.S. my mom crimped her edges just like you did in this video, and of course I do too.
How'd it turn out for you? I just left the farmers market and got a huge bag of pie/sauce apples. I'll be trying this crust with apple pie and I'll make sauce or butter with the remainder of the apples
I was hoping to come across this recipe. I saw that you mentioned this crust in a couple of your videos. Thank you so much for sharing all your recipes ♥️
Wow, awesome. Never thought of using my stand mixer. That's definitely going to feel better on my wrists this year. Thank you so much. God Bless Y'all ♥️♥️♥️
I need to get a stand mixer because I have a hard time getting it right when I mix it by hand. I've had a life long struggle with our crust. 😆 My mom whips them out like it's the easiest thing in the world. She also uses a fork and makes hers with Crisco or lard. Thank you for this tutorial!
Hi Becky! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe. It is by far my favorite. If you haven't already, try using Walmart's Great Value Plastic Wrap (red and white box). It works so much better than the the standard brands. I don't swear half as much using it!
I just love you lady! Love your way of teaching and down home cooking. Love that you and your family LOVE THE LORD. THANK YOU! IM MAKING CHOCOLATE CREAM PIE WITH MIREGN....SO I AM going to go to those videos of yours too. Wish me luck. PLEASE bc I NEED it. 😉
whoop whoop I'm excited to find this video. my friend also named Denise has never made a homade pie crust before. I shared this one with her. thank you. Blessings everyone!
How do you make a Buttermilk Milk Pie. I have read a bout 10 differant recipies. Most are pretty much the same. Then I read the Tennesse Buttermilk Pie.She use cornmeal real fine in the bottom of pie pan.And instead of 3eggs she recommends 4 eggs. To 1CUP BUTTERMILK I CUP SUGAR ABOUT A. 4th of a cup packed brown sugar.. A beautiful older lady said thats the way she was taught and it's a southern family tradition.Well my grandaughters fiance pie of choice is a buttermilk pie.I made his mamas recipe he was happy. But I always watch read and listen on how. To make something better. Now I'm intrigued by this TENNESSE GRANDMOTHER. I feel there's a whole lot of listening and lovin of southern cooking in their generations of family. And I'm so ready to figure out the easiest and Buttermilk Pie. OK OK There's a debate goin on here. Kentucky verses Tennessee abd Indiana. Come ladies teach us some wise ole tricks.
Try wrapping the crust on the rolling pin and transfer to pie plate.. I love your videos and I love you too Becky. God bless you and your beautiful family.
Thank you for this video. I have yet to put a batch in the refrigerator but will try it next time I mix up a batch. I have scoops made by Pampered Chef and they have held up very well.
The very best pie crusts are made with lard, as it comes out nice and flaky. A very dear family friend made delicious apple pie using lard in her crusts. Yum, so nice and light! My dad was a baker and agreed with her recipe and always enjoyed having a slice! Enjoy your holidays!
Thank you for this tutorial, I have always sucked at crust, I noticed you didn’t use vinegar, that’s how I’ve always done it- I buy the pillsbury refrigerated kind, so much easier, until I found yours
I was just thinking how much my great-gramma would have liked the mixer when she was doin her pies. :) I remember watchin her and sneaking little bites of dough.
+Kathy Dobrzynski I love those memories :) As I get older it seems like I am forgetting everything, but I am having more of those little bits of memories and they are always pleasant. I good mixer definitely makes pie crust and everything else easier, which I also appreciate as I get older :)
I came back to watch this old video and LOVE the opening with your family! The pie crust looks good too. I was just curious if you did things different then I do and you sure do. I picked up some tips from this.
I am getting ready to try your recipe for pie crust in my food processor I'll let you know the results bless you and your family. I made Apple turnovers and they turned out perfect thank you now I'm going to use my food processor from now on thank you
I like to do half butter and half lard. I always get compliments on my crust. I use a cheese shredder on the butter/lard and it mixes quicker if you mix by hand.
