I think the fish you caught at 17.00 thereabouts is a Shanny (Lipophrys pholis) which is a member of the Blenny family. There has been some speculation about it in the comments. Some people think it a wolf fish but you would have noticed the teeth in that instance! Another claimed it was an eel pout (otherwise known as a Viviparous Blenny) but the head shape is clearly wrong and it isn't anything like elongated enough. I'll stick with Shanny. Michaela x
To be honest, I am thinking about giving fishing up ! It used to be fun and relaxing but now it has turned into something nasty ! You have all these public waterway being controlled by fishing clubs and they only serve to make money. I have no problem with fisheries on private land, I respect that but crooked people are encroaching on public land and doing underhanded deals with the CRT and the local authorities ! Never thought it would come to this but it has. Greed and power corrupts !
In this weeks episode Graeme Pullen & Wayne Comben go Pier Fishing for Mini-Species! Awesome fun! Have you guys tried pier fishing before? If not get out there and give it a go! #pier #fishing #fish #awesome #variety #species #fun #video #youtube #hooked #lrf
I went pier fishing and I got 3 dogies and a few dozen under size coalfish. Ive been at my local harbour and while targeting flaties I only got coalfish. is there any way u can prevent the coalfish from taking the bait. also can u make a vid on how to catch sandeels without digging or using a net to catch them?
First non wrasse species was a rock goby i think. Can usually tell from the fin. The second is not a wolf fish lol. Its a common blenny or Shanny as some call it. Glad to see a video like this. I have been trsching my young lad the joys of mini species fishing with lrf gear. When they are on the feed like that it is worth twitching lures instead. Makes it more of a challenge
I'm not even joking about a year ago I was fishing of a pier when I caught one of those goby's you were talking about the thing was though it was just less than a foot! I had no idea what it was until this video thanks Graeme :-)
Shame i cant atach pics here those gobies and blenies we cach with kids undr rocks with girls. Also smaler brown crabs. My girls absolutly loves it. We have pick of one of those hanging on glowe :D good fun
can you fish in this area again that is where i fish i catch pollock, bass and all sorts down there please fish there again please go back to the first pier with the flags please !! :)
Sorry I wouldn't waist my time on the little things. Thats y I spend my time on the bow river around calgary. Those little ones squirm to much. Keep up the good work guys.
Hi guys. The fish species which you caught at 17 mins into the video is a Shanny. Member of the Blennie family and identified buy the red eyes. This is quite a big example of this species. Usually find them whilst looking for peeler crab.
Would those fish work for bait off the same pier only where the current is? I enjoyed the different fish you caught. Nice day on the water. You don't always have to catch giants to have a good day fishing. I really enjoy your videos.
Always enjoy your videos (particular the ones where you crack open a tin for dinner but anyway....). It would be great to see a follow up video to this one with genuine LRF tackle and lures.
Hey TA. Great new video. As informative as the tackle shop segments are, definitely prefer these learn on the go videos because standing listening to an interview in a closed room for 20 mins out of a 35 min video was pretty boring. Keep on with the up & up :)
I have no good spots to fish localy as there is no depth in water at all. But we always have wonderfull fun with kids oon low tide under rocks . Least time we got around 30 of them and 70 brown crabs
Graeme pls make an epsiode in a simular place with a waggler and maggots. Its a very good method and it is commonly used in eastern europe you ll be suprised with what you ll catch
Hey tafishing, I was recently in a tackle shop, where they were selling fishing rods for about 20 euro's that were... 4 ft long, in total. What type of fishing would you use such a small rod for and would you use it off a pier?
guys excuse my ignorance but the corkwing that was caught I actually thought it was a cuckoo wrasse. seems to be to colourful for a corkwing but ill probably be wrong
Its not ignorant, they are commonly confused with each other. The Cuckoo has a longer body, the Corkwing is wider and has a spot on the tail. The fish on this video was definitely a Corkwing, I have caught them with beautiful vibrant colours, they look tropical!
You will catch more with small hooks.Try freshwater sizes down to size 8/10 and even 12,using a tiny piece of bait.Often if you use a larger hook the mini species clean it off and you miss the bite.In summer check the bait as you will also have crabs to contend with.
Two points. One great video and I always like learning more about sea fishing. When hunting for small fish be careful of the weever fish nasty little thing. Lastly many years ago on the Isle of Wight pier fish hooked a fish called a smelt a old lady told me how to use it for live bait. Next thing I knew a huge thump on the rod it was a massive Bass it snap my line but what a bend in the rod. Never forget it. Don’t know if the Bass can be still seen around the pier use to be a lot once over. Good holiday
