Hi there. I think your fish at 4,51 was a big Tompot Blenny (Parablennius gattorugine). They're called "Tompot" blennies because they frequently turn up caught in crab pots. That was a nice sized one but they can grow to over 30cms. Michaela x

Another great video Mike. I've learned so much from you guys and your dad cracks me up. Cornwall huh? Lovely place I live close-ish but haven't been for 18+years. Ever tried Pembrokeshire? I know you've traveled through but I can guarantee great LRF and great Bass and Mackey fishing. I'm land locked in Wiltshire and hope to crack canal predator fishing when I get the chance. (got an 11 month old) I miss the sea though and whenever I'm home (Pembs) I get to the rocks. Would love to see you guys trying your skills down there. Keep the great vids coming. Matt:p

Mike, the fish you weren't sure about was a Tompot Blenny. Great film. My daughter (aged 5) loved the one shot in Dorset. She wants to give LRF a go. I'd been considering it for a while, certainly have been wanting to try light gear from my kayak. My wife has seen this & is up for it too. Great excuse for a new rod. I was going to try nanofil rather than braid. Any reasons why I shouldn't?
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 9 лет назад
Hi Patrick, that's great news that your daughter and your wife want to try it. It certainly is very enjoyable and to be honest it makes for a great day out with family. I have never used nanofil, as I understand it is supposed to cast further than braid, but when I'm doing LRF I have no need to cast far out. I wouldn't mind trying out the nanofil though, so if you do get it, let me know how you get on! Either way, I am sure it will work fine. It just depends on how you personally feel about it. Thanks, Mike

Cool video as always, very informational even if you don't live in that area, but did he say 6lb braid? That must be thinner than a fragment of glass, how do you even use such fine line?
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 9 лет назад
I did use 6lb braid in this video. If I were to target bigger fish I would definitely use stronger line. Probably up to 20lb braid and 10-15lb fluorocarbon to be sure that I can land the bigger fish. 6lb braid can be a right pain in the backside when trying to tie knots etc in windy conditions, but you get used to it. If you are trying LRF for the first time I would recommend using stronger line. Mike

spot on mike, going cornwall in august where would you recommend, how light can you go on the tackle, ive got a 1-5gram ultralight rod, is that too light???
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 7 лет назад
No 1-5 gram is bang on for LRF! I usually use a 1-8g and that works fine
@simonhuss9619
@simonhuss9619 7 лет назад
Hi again mike, loved the live show last night, ive got a follow-up question on tackle, rod i mentioned, ive got in a 5 and 6ft length this isnt 2 small for the lrf is it, ive used both these rods for perch dropshoting no problems, had pike on them too, also what main lines would you recommend, brand and braking strain, cheers again you and your dad are best thing on youtube!!!

@mattmosey1961
@mattmosey1961 8 лет назад
Hi guys, usually a coarse fisherman so forgive me maybe silly question but is there a season for catching on lures in the sea? Planning to use lures in March in devon, would this be a waste of time ?
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 8 лет назад
+Matt Mosey There is no strict season but generally you will catch more from spring onwards. Depending on how cold it is you should still catch, I usually go fishing over the easter bank holiday and catch on lures but easter holiday is slightly earlier this year. I think you should be fine just hope that it is warm weather - Mike

Great video !!! Does a bit of sqid work as well instead of a ragworm ?
@iloveyzf450
@iloveyzf450 9 лет назад
not as well as ragworm. Try bigger slices of squid or even full squid works amazing for the bigger fish.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 9 лет назад
Never tried squid for LRF, I am sure if you cut it into small thin 'slivers' then it will entice a bite
@carphunterbavaria834
@carphunterbavaria834 9 лет назад
Good to know thank you ;-)
@iloveyzf450
@iloveyzf450 9 лет назад
also if ur in to them kind of baits, use cuttlefish there basically a even better version of squid more scent and stronger so stays on hook better :D my favourite cod and bass bait.

This might be a dumb question but do you need a specific type of rod and reel for saltwater fishing?
@MrBlimpology
@MrBlimpology 9 лет назад
Not really, but saltwater can degrade rods/reels made for freshwater. Best to go to your tackle shop and ask around to find right stuff.
@MrBlimpology
@MrBlimpology 9 лет назад
never said you couldnt, just saying there are r/r specifically designed for saltwater
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 9 лет назад
No you don't, but be sure to clean your reel in fresh water after each time you have been sea fishing. Sea reels need a little more maintaining then freshwater reels. But most of the time when I lure fish I use the same reel for sea and freshwater fishing. Mike

apparently you shouldn't touch mackerel if you release them because the acid on your hand kills them and they die a painful death is this true??
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 8 лет назад
Personally, I have seen every mackerel I have released swim away fine. They have even done studies to show recaptures of mackerel that have been handled. so in my opinion, I don't believe the acid on your hands kill mackerel. Killing them gives them a 0% of survival, so surely letting them go gives them a fighting chance? That is my opinion. Mike

@JohnSmith-vl2nd
@JohnSmith-vl2nd 7 лет назад
+TAFishing you're missing the point. Touching them with bare, dry hands removes their slime covering, which prevents disease, so handling them like this hugely increases the chance that they will die at some point soon afterwards. They won't die from this instantly - which is why you see yours swim away - but that doesn't mean they survive your rough handling. And just because they have a higher chance of survival if you throw them back, it does not mean that you shouldn't take every care you can to ensure they survive. It's simply laziness, and does nothing to help the dwindling mackerel stocks.
