I've got some large DIY speakers with Four 15" mid-bass drivers, and Eight 2x6" rectangular piezo horns in each box. The 15's are wired in series parallel, and the piezo horns in parallel with each quadrant of the inner wiring to give them a little buffer off the 8ohm speakers. No crossover, they blend together quite nicely between 2,000hz and 3,000hz. I'm running 500 watts per channel, and it all sounds just peachy fine to me. I ❤ my piezos! Also i blend that whole system with a studio monitor system, old school new school. Each system sounds great, mix them both together and it sounds phenomenal awesome! It's ALL In the way you blend, and i highly recommend the old school new school approach to anybody.

@@AudioTalk I have a resistor it is a 62 ohm 5 watt 5% tolerance I wanna replace it with a non inductive wirewound resistor 62 ohm 5 watt 1% tolerance should I do this or should I use a metal Oxide resistor instead?

@@WingStop-zv1sk You can pick any of them, its only a matter of how much you want to spend for lower distortion, but it sounds like a parallel resistor being of that size so it would have to be High end speakers to tell the difference between wirewound and mox

I've five Motorola KSN1016 in parallel. Each has a 56 ohm series resistor. That paralp as primary, lel load goes to the 25 volt leads of a 30 watt matching transformer. I'm currently using the 15 watt tap as the primary side and that primary has a 7.2 ohm/ 0.11mH Zobel network. The highpass network is currently a 1.3uF capacior. It sounds pretty good. With the 15 watt ta[ p as primary - Z drops to 3.6 ohm @20KHz

I like peizo tweeters, they easily go much higher than standard ones, and make sound brighter

I use a 20 ohm 20 watt ceramic resistor, which dulls the harshness.

I will have to watch this a second time and take notes, making sure what is doing what of these plenty things adding to the circuit. It was a little too much to take for me.

i have a question for you kent. i wanna upgrade my current xover im my polk speakers. ive never done it before at all. i wanna model it after the current xover in it. i dont know how to read the pcb or figure out what does what. i also dont know the first thing about how to hook it up. is there anyway you can help me out on this? any help is appreciated for sure. your very knowledgable and honest. unlke many others ive seen. you know, ive watched alot of guys similar to you. i gotta say your the best one by far. you recommend and explain only the truths. the guy at gr research i dont trust. you should design a high quality diy speaker and xover and buiild it. share the builds on here and wait to get super popular. you can also upgrade current speakers so to speak like gr-research. he never plays a sound byte to any speaker he does. that alone to me exudes snake oil. i know youtube compreses etc. but if its as good as he says you will hear a diffence no doubt. really appreciate you sharing how to mod el cheapo tweeters.

Not always the case. I use the big 1188 copies (I make my own simple horns with wood 4 pieces of scrap wood) with an 8ohm resistor in parallel and then use a regular adjustable L-pad to adjust their level. They add just the right amont of sparkle and upper end to vintage alnico 8" or 10" full range drivers I use in open baffle. Not harsh at all when you keep their output tamed with the L-pad. They actually sound beautiful and they're very light and dirt cheap. The trick is keep their output tamed

@@edjackson4389 I prefer to use a better tweeter that isn’t harsh to begin with.
