Hi Ken I recently purchased a Celestion 15 8 inch bass guitar speaker to use for an e-drum monitor. For home use. Do you have any box size recommendations to achieve the deepest base possible? Would a port help? How long? Thanks for your help in advance! Great videos too.
Bass amp? 8" driver? Background: Low E on a 4 string standard tuning Bass guitar can go down to about 40hz. A 5 string bass can go down to a low B which is 30hz to 32hz. Conclusion: Don't go for a ported enclosure for this application. 10" X 10" X 8" deep cube, sealed box for sure. Scenario 1: If your amp power exceeds the speakers rated power then use thick and stiff walls such as double 3/4 inch thick plywood for the enclosure. You'll get some crazy (good) distortion at higher volume levels. Scenario 2: If the amp is somewhat underpowered then build a thin-wall cabinet with 1/2 inch plywood or even MDF. The walls will resonate at regular bass guitar frequencies to add volume to your sound. Hope that helps! The OP seems to be quiet for a few months now, not sure if he's still active on RU-vid.
I put an extra "cone" in a small box and phased it the other way as it's facing backwards of the other two. So... one of the answers is an extra "cone" or speaker.
