You've got to love the Drongo Academy for AoE3 Cadets. I think I joined this channel when it had like three or four videos out and less than a hundred followers. Hard to believe it's hit a hundred videos now and is approaching 12,000 followers already.
I noticed when you were explaining how the game chooses the order of the 3 military buildings, it prioritizes them by alphabetical order. Artillery Foundry, Barracks, Stable.
my control group main differences. I have military buildings on "Find all Barracks" and "find all stable" on a letter instead of a control group. Saves having to faf with tab through buildings. I still use find individual Town center but then use select all hotkey if i wanted to select all town center. secondary reason i do that is that i like to snap back to my home town if i wanted to see something which the specific hotkey Find all TC's cant do.
About the groups, I always do 1-infantry 2-artillery 3-cav 4-barracks/war huts etc 5-stables 6-art foundry/castles/special militaries 7-tc 8-docks/special building 9-ships/whatever
Nice to see such videos, im top100 and i learnt stuff!! Small note though, there is a hotkey to select all towncenters. So u don't have to do ctrl 5 to group tcs, u just press 5 directly :)
Couple more tips. If you're under attack and doing this army pop of for example mm, caroleans and huss, dont be afraid to pop your vills out of tc too. They can soak a lot and that can win a fight, especially vs musk/jans or smth that want to melee the cav but dont do much dmg in melee vs vills. Second, this find all of selected type that you can use to delete pillar walls, I basically use that a billion times a game. If I have 10 skirms on a control group and I just trained 5, I press space (my find all of selected type) and now I hace 15, I add it to my control group straight away, helps a lot. Lastly in terms of hotkeys, I think you need to figure out what you want to add and what you dont. For example I put my market on 4, aussie uses ctrl w, this saves him 1 slot. Some people just use find rax/find stable/find tc etc to have less control groups. Personally I think using find explorer hotkey (default /) is better than putting him in a group
Great video, i am definitely going to try the dragbox technique. I think it could be very usefull for when cav is coming for your canons at the back, do a quick switcheroo.
By far the Best aoe3 youtuber 😄😄😄 and an excelent teacher as well Cheers and Thanks for all the great advice (actually been here with you since your first vídeo on october)
Mega amazing content! I needed help with the control groups. Although it sounds simple, I still can't control more than 3 units at a time. For instance, if I have Musks, Cav, Artilery and Goons, it gets hard for my mind to know which control groups they are. This video helped me a lot though. Thanks Drongo
Pull tricking depends on the type and number of units, as well as the distance. For example, 4 cav will pull 3 forest prowlers, but not more. For 6 FPs you need 8 cav. Since I've been mostly playing hudenaise lately I tested it with them, but I'm sure it's the same for other civs. And they will only pull them if the target destination is relatively near, but then you can let the cav run forward a bit and then pull again, you can essentially pull infantry or artillery through the entire map like this with cav. Explorers like running so they will always be pulled even by one unit.
Or actually, maybe it has nothing to do with unit type, and you just need more units pulling than being pulled, with the exception of explorers that can be pulled by a single unit.
I need to hear more opinions on this. Nice expose here. I need to hear more opinions. It's really need with villagers exposed while foraging. I see them run once every 20 tries.
I’ve been watching your videos and it’s been truly very helpful ❤. I’m not a competitive player, although myself and my friends take up LAN matches often😆 I have this friend who always wins with the Ottomans. I just wanted to know what the best strategy against the ottomans would be. Note: He doesn’t rush, but turtles most of the time.
Great video dude . I suggest adding an something to the title or thumbnail that it's a aoe video cuz I just assumed its aoe because lately I started watching aoe vids .Almost just swiped passed the vid
I think that's what works best. I see 90% of top players using the sharp on the 2nd or 3rd guardian to bail out if the enemy hero is spotted. Or that's my guess.
so i am guessing the hotkey for selecting all of a type is not the same thing as double clicking the troop or building? when i want to train 5x musks for example from both my barracks' i double click it and do it like that.... however that is the workflow i have always used since i started playing AOE3LE, i haven't tried DE yet myself.
Something like: Select larger group of units -> holding shift select smaller group of units -> tell the units collectively to move past BOTH sets of units
Aren't there command more important than delete that should get the prime real-estate of the mouse button? I mostly get select all units buy I prefer find idle villager and select all military unites. Feel like I need access to that more frequently than delete which I don't use often.
Understandable, and not stupid at all! Control + number (while selecting the units you want to put in a control group) Then can go back to it by pressing the relevant number.
Hey there Aussie drongo. Congrats on your 100 vid. I am your dead fan. I too have aoe 3 de. And I am sure that we'll meet in one game. My aoe 3 de profile name is stolenkitten11
Very hard at the moment, you have to scout their strategy and prepare against it, if they are going tori gates, then playing defensive and safe, if they are playing toshogu shrine, aggressive and map control
The OC historian in me lost his shit over the pillar less walls because I play as China, and to lose my Han style pillars, unacceptable. Their artistic value is needed, I say to myself, as I play a RTS that isn't about art...
