Good lord the production quality and number of camera locations on this video is insane. Brilliantly done and congrats to the Captain on his retirement!
MegaTechpc .....l watched this video and was overly impressed how it was put together, all angles, all shots, even the captain received an impressive retirement honor to his work...these pilots are all heroes they look after our safety to get us there and back... Congratulations captain...
I can't explain the 'feeling' I got watching this...Congratulations on a 41 year career Mr. Raps. I am sure you contributed much to aircraft safety and innovation.
I worked for Lufthansa Cargo at LAX, we were sent to school in Germany while I was employed there. I flew back to Los Angeles with Captain Juergen Raps at the controls of LH450 to LAX, in 1994. I was honored to have been allowed on the flight deck for arrival at LAX. It is something I will not ever forget.
Indeed. I would have considered being an ATC if I knew I could have worked in the same tower as the young lady at 13:49. Of course, I would have needed permission from my wife. 😀
One of the best videos on RU-vid,what a way to commemorate a legendary pilots career, the wing dip,ATC wishing him a happy retirement, the ground shot flying over the Golden Gate Bridge….just a stunning & perfect video
Lufthansa is a very professional airline with fantastic staff and pilots and superbly maintained aircraft. This Captain will be hugely missed but he deserves a great retirement and i hope he gets it.
He seemed a bit snooty to the ground guys in my opinion, its most likely simply the German culture difference but he seemed annoyed by them and god complex.
I DEFINITELY AGREE...I JUST RECENTLY FLEW BACK TO GERMANY IN 2017 WITH THIS AIRBUS..EVERYTHING YOU WERE REFERRING TO IS SO TRUE!!I. IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY..THE ONLY WAY TO FLY!!I am REFERRING to the first good comment..YOU AMERICAN guys need to get your act together before judging...take a flight to Hawaii..good LUCK!!🤣😆😝HOPE YOU GET THE RIGHT SEAT...
I was on this flight...I remember that day, no one from passengers knew this was recording or anything...it was like routine...except for the fact that when we landed, the pilot said it was his last flight n while de boarding he greeted all passengers..😍
well we were able to get to the moon and back with a space ship that was developed quickly(Less thime than it took to develop the A380) and has less computing power than a calculator, so anything is possible.
Devin Thomas I don't think I would want him to be captain...sorry he sounds a bit "I'm in control of everything, whatever's happening around me" sort of person to me....🙄🙄
Congratulations Captain Raps! This video reminds me of my dad's last flight before retiring on the 747 Tokyo to Dallas after 36 years with American Airlines. I hope you enjoy your retirement as much as he did. Sadly he is gone now but never forgotten by a grateful son who he taught how to fly. He also rode a Harley in his retirement.! I salute you captain!
What a great video. Captures one of my favorite moments in flying, when you've escaped the chaos of tracon and you're handed off to center and the aircraft is all trimmed up and you can just relax and enjoy the ride.
Thank you, Sir for your professionalism and helping us get around the world. Congratulations on your retirement I hope you're still living the great life that you deserve thank you.
@@Fiona-hp4mw The more you know, the less you fear. These pilots have been doing this for many years, so they have had the time to develop efficieny and a flow in their processes. That is why they can be so relaxed and professional at the same time. It is called "experience". A robot cannot do that. Sure, it may be able to fly a plane by itself, but in a tricky situation or when decisions are necessary that a robot cannot even calculate for, much less comprehend, we are always glad that experienced pilots are in the cockpits of such planes. And if their mindset is that of a robot, it means that their thinking process is pretty much flawless.
@@Fiona-hp4mw as a robot has no mind, it's more the mindset of rational, intelligent people who are looking ahead instead of living in the moment, steered by emotions.
This was one of the most enjoyable videos I have watched in a Long time,Lufthansa is one of my favourite planes, and just to see that massive plane lift and climb into that blue sky was beautiful. The Captain is a real gentleman. Thankyou for this great video.
Constanze Steegmiller is right. Constanze is not being a smart a***. But just being specific. And im sure ballinacrossrose would appreciate it. Nothing wrong with being corrected. We continue to learn everyday.
Watched the video a few times and always have a lump in my throat when the "Congratulations on your retirement" comes from the tower. It's fun how you can attach to people just by watching them through a bunch of videos :)
Such admiration for Captain Raps, his co-pilot and all the air traffic controllers plus of course the engineers that build these amazing aircraft. Air travel is one of the wonders of human teamwork yet most passengers just take it for granted. Brilliant and Thank You.
Good as a punchline, but totally inappropriate for team organizations and where safety is critical. All individuals may not be the same and all forms of behavior have to be considered and not derided. Many accidents have happened when a person has not expressed a doubt fearing ridicule and negative reception. Stress is a normal part of human emotions which has to be acknowledged and managed.
When he said this, it was meant with a twinkle in the eye, just kidding the colleague (Peter, guess the purser in the cabin) as he was a bit in trouble:)
Wonderful video. Captain is a great guy, many happy years in retirement! Love the camaraderie among the crew members, and also with the ground staff and control tower. This is what modern day flying experience should be like!
Captain looks nice guy. Retiring after a full career at Lufhansa, bringing back home a nice new full A380 is a nice experience for closing the last chapter of his professional life. Happy retirement time.
Congratulations captain Juergen. Thank you for your outstanding service. It's been fun with Pilotseye to watch your professionalism and love for flying. Cheers ! ! !
I once had the captain final flight experience with LAN in Santiago Chile. He flew in towards the airport, 10 meters off the runway he flew straight along the whole runway without landing, returned to ascent and flapped his wings and flew around the tower again. Captain’s way to due an encore and a bow of distinction.
once I had a FIRST FLIGHT. landing without giving any gas at the last few meters, the touchdown was so hard, you cannot imagine. Anyhow, this will be a teaching for this pilot forever (if was not suspended at once)
I flew in the A380-800 from Houston to Germany last month. This plane is freaking heavy and fast as hell. I could literally fill the full speed thrust from the turbo engines. I was just too amazed on how this beast could fly and manuever with pace. Loved it
That comment "stress is only known by inefficient people" is probably typically German. I lived among them for 2 years while I was stationed there in the U.S. Army. I learned to love them and respect their attitudes. They always do things so much better than necessary. In many ways, they overdue everything to achieve maximum efficiency. We can learn much from them. I certainly did.
Thank you so much for this nice comment. Greets from Germany. Hope you are doing well during these tough Corona times - and well, not only tough because of Corona. Stay safe.
Jawohl! Between stints working in Scotland, I spent nearly 4 years there during the 80s and early 90s, learned the language and have several friends there. Such an astonishing eye-opener for this former believer in American 'Exceptionalism' and a stark contrast with Thatcher's Britain. Treasure those memories dearly. Glad you had that experience. I know several fellow Yanks who never grokked the culture at all when they were stationed there.
This is the type of video I love to watch !! Clean images, perfect camera cuts, details and zoom in a simple and clear way !! For more videos like that !!
I have never been on a plane. I've always said I never will. Well this video has made me rethink my entire life. Lol. Like I am so excited. It is incredible. the organization and professionalism I never realized goes into being a pilot. Then the runway workers. The air traffic control operation. I mean everything is going on at the same time. But still so smooth and confident. It's like a beautiful intricate choreographed dance of calm chaos. If one person makes a mistake ..even the baggage loaders.. then it will throw off the entire dance. I'm 41 and have never had the smallest interest or single thought about aviation. So now I have to make sure my children see this so they can know the opportunities and satisfaction of this career. This was great. Congratulations Captain. And I have to ask. ..am I rhe only one that finds a man that control that beast of a machine in a uniform with an accent like this incredibly attractive. Whole life just changed. Lol
youre aware that flying is the safest form of travelling? Airlines have highest safety standards, because if a plane goes down the whole airline goes down aswell most likely. youd rather win millions in lotto than crash on a plane.
Unrelated to flying but very German....I attended a wedding in Wuppertal some years back and during the reception an English friend of mine asked a German guest named Fabian whether or not he could speak English. Fabian replied. " My English is not comprehensive but I`ll endeavour to communicate effectively with you" All done with a completely straight face and a twinkle in the eye.
got goosebumps while seeing the plain taking off ......and a lot of cheers to the wonderful captain Juergen Raps on his retirement .....just want to say thank you....be happy
So informative now I know what goes on with the whole operation, as a passenger you sit in your seat and get comfortable and think about the flight ahead meantime the pilots and cabin crew are busy the amount of checks and things that go on in an aircraft of this size is amazing. My first trip was from New Zealand to Dubai onto Gatwick, I loved watching the cameras on the plane and recorded a bird strike coming towards Gatwick, I so love flying and will spend most of the journey even at night looking out the window amazing what you see at night so now I have an even better idea what is going on next time I fly. Thanks for a great video
Merle, so nice you share your feelings of your first flights. You are right, one can observe and see many things, and contrary to Kashif, I hope that you will continue to be interested and curious.
This was my youth. I grew up in the Bay Area and my mom grew up near Frankfort. We went back to Germany to visit my Oma and Opa almost every year. Lufthansa was the airline of choice. Excellent crews and the best of pilots. The landings were so smooth, you didn't even feel the touchdown. So many stories I have about the flights I took, all good. Captain Raps may have been one of those pilots, but who knows. I appreciate all of the employees of Lufthansa.
Dear Captain Juergen Raps first of all many thanks for these beautifull views in this flight! Have a nice retirement time and many trips with your Harley machine!!! Many thanks!!!
It's so nice to hear/see a professional from another great industrial nation have so much respect and enjoyment from the sights and sounds of our own beautiful country -- and state of California. I hope you have a pleasant retirement, captain and come back soon!
It's not really hard nowadays as the system were all controlled by automation. Unless they experience irregularities then it's time for them to really in full control of it.
@@asuthiono1 do you have any idea of how much they have yo study this airplane model for flight it right? Not only make hours like and we are not talking of only 12hours we are talking about they have to prepare 2 or 3 months before this flight cause this beast not gonna manage alone prick
Air travel alone amazes me...400+ people packed in a metal tube going 600 MPH at 40,000 FT in the air. But yes, the fact that these things can fly is mind blowing.
RU-vid finally recommended a great video🙂.. the camera angles and quality of video is incredible... I love flying with Lufthansa and I wish the captain a great retirement.. Lufthansa keep the video coming.. 1k likes for the captain and Lufthansa 👍🏽
To those who say the Captain was rude, or they seem stressed, remember that they are not there to party on down nor are they are on a joy flight, they are doing their jobs as professional airline pilots, as far as I’m concerned they were courteous, who cares if they are “friendly” ffs
Why apologize for this arrogant POS who flicks his co-pilot's visor up with no comment and chides him about tower frequency signs (while actually missing the important ones himself). Such overbearing attitude has resulted in fatalities in the past. I guess Raps was never taught human factors or how to work as a team. Goodbye to him and may he be replaced by someone with less self importance and more understanding of human factors in the cockpit. If he sat the hazardous attitudes test he would fail every time.
The captain was not being `rude` he was being ` professional` l,m a 70 year old Brit and have a few air miles on the clock, give me a German pilot anytime!
Summit X, I agree with you completely. He is doing his job and that is the only thing he should be doing. His life and the passengers depend on it. It seems to be so exciting to be able to fly an aircraft of that size and have the bird's eye view at 1,000 ft and counting. I would give anything to be able to get my pilot's license and fly.
I was hurt for over year staying at home. I watched tons of aviation videos, it so happened to be my hobby and passion. I can say that this is by far the best quality stuff I have come across. Thank you for this material ps..Nice to see my home airport SFO.
I hope captain read my coment : i just wanna say thank you for everything u have any skill in pilots needed ,and now u can rest and happy with your family thanks capt 😭👍
I so miss sitting in the Captain seat. Had to retire for medical reasons. Congratulations to you Captain for your 41 years of safe flying. I hope you will cherish your video as much as I enjoyed it remembering what I used to do for a living. Your lucky
Goodbye Rap and nobody will miss your overbearing attitude in the cockpit. If you're like this on camera, God help your colleagues when the camera is switched off. I'm just glad that you've not caused any fatalities, assuming that's the case.
12% of DLH employees getting almost 2/3 of 770 mil € fee per month. Everything of the flight is prepared by others (OPS etc.), entering their work app. 1 hour prior dispatch, calculating the fuel datas - the main fuel has been calculated already - discussing about the weather on route - ok., this is the most difficult decission thy have to do - getting on board - doing a walk around, to make the world believe, they know whats going on at the technical side of an aircraft, but calling for technical assistance what ever occures, producing delays and cancellation whenever they want... and You say, they worth their money... ! Pilots reputation in puplic is still unbelievable. Ask a business pilot, what they have to prepare around a normal flight and what they earn a month, You never will say again ".. they deserve every dollar ..."
I always thought it looked so funny from the ground seeing a huge thing like the A380 flying. It looks like it's moving so slow during its climb, and the climb is so much slower than smaller planes like the 737. Always equally exciting seeing one of these though.
One of the most awesome airplane videos I have seen. All the different angles shown was superb. Love the saying bye to SFO with the wings lowered and raised.
I learned to love and respect this profession since my first flight on 05/05/1968 until the last flight on 10/20/2016... Congratulations to Capt Lufthansa LH455 on his last flight, with the perfection of ALWAYS... Aviation is the most fantastic of the Arts...
CONSIDERING THE GARBAGE (CARTOON LIKE SUPERHERO FILMS AND SUCH) THAT COME OUT OF HOLLYWOOD, THIS IS INDEED A MASTERPIECE OF FILM MAKING. HOLLYWOOD IS MORE THAN CAPABLE OF THIS CALIBER OF FILMMAKING. UNFORTUNATELY, THEY HAVE OTHER AGENDAS ONE BEING THE DUMBING DOWN OF AMERICA.
Back in the ‘70s, a friend of mine, ex-F4 jockey, applied for an airline job and didn’t pass the psychological exam - they wanted basically a bus driver, not someone who would react as a fighter pilot - so I guess calm would be an apt description. 😂
@@john-or9cf I'm more nervous when my wife is behind the wheel.......... 4 attempts at her test.......she won't drive my car (AMG S63 Mercedes), so she has a little hatchback auto (fiesta)
I build flight control parts for the A380 . Would love to meet this man and shake his hand to congratulate him on 41 years in the air. Think I saw in another video he stated he would be moving to Phoenix Arizona after retirement. Would like to see him in some more post retirement videos.
Hes going to love the riding weather there in the Winter, I stay away in the summer though. I have a buddy I grew up with who lives there now and he also rides a CVO Harley. Maybe he will ride with Capt Raps one day. I almost trailered my Harley there for an annual bike week to ride with my school friend and his cousin Mike Nolan, who also owns a Harley. Mike was a radio eye in the sky guy for years in Los Angeles, I think anyone that lives there knew of him. He accumulated over 35 thousand flying hours before he retired.
It's amazing how such a miracle of engineering has nowadays become something so normal. We see planes flying every day, we ride them, and we still forget that it was someday the biggest dream of mankind, to fly like birds do. I still consider a wonder watching a 560 ton. piece of aluminum fly. I'm hoping to become a pilot someday
@@tonyduncan9852 Dear, I love meeting friends and getting to know each other with time and patience. Can you suggest a way that we can stay in touch here and chat dearest? And if you don't mind, you can email me this (lydiaanderson6060@gmail.com) So we can talk now dear
What a fantastic video and a fitting tribute to a great pilot on his retirement after a monumental career with Lufthansa. Love how ground ops and ATC are included in the video and the latter are in on the occasion. What beautiful shots from the ground too of the takeoff and flyover of the Golden Gate Bridge. Obviously this was pre-pandemic. Airlines were hit hard and the recovery of their industry and many bumps in getting back to full passenger ops. No doubt it will be back running smoothly soon. Chapeau to Captain Juergen Raps. I have flown on one of these huge planes to the mid-east. The thing that I liked the most, being back in cattle class was the view from three outside cameras that you could tune into on the entertainment unit. Pilot's eye view, top of the tail and belly. Each was fascinating, much more so than the movies.
