Yea, having some transparency on the IPD overlay would be nice too. So easy to do as the image is a png file - I hand hacked it but that only stays until the next update.
@@Teqqlesdoessimracing I could never get my ipd on point. Need a fix right away. You can’t name it crystal light if you can’t get your right ipd to really show it.
Very informative overview. im waiting for my crystal light to arrive (upgrading from HP Reverb G2 v2) What gpu are you running ? Do you had to change some visual settings to keep the frame rate ? (Im with the 4090 )
I'm also on a 4090. In iRacing I didn't have to change anything unless streaming. For ACC, the budget is a bit tighter, I need to play with settings, but I am currently running VR High.
I'm happy you enjoyed the introduction video, Bob. I'll be using Assetto Corsa, ACC, AMS2, and iRacing in the main review, but if you want to see anything else on there, feel free to let me know. My main sim at the moment is iRacing, but I have started playing ACC a lot more recently.
@@Teqqlesdoessimracing I play ACC exclusively, haven’t tried any of the others as I just wanted to concentrate on one game and get to a reasonable standard. The monthly subscription for iRacing puts me off as I work away from home for several weeks at a time, so don’t think it would be good value at the moment. I am holding off on getting AC as I would like to see what the new version brings to the table when that is released later this year.
What basis is there to believe that WMR will be a paperweight? As long as the WMR panel remains available (I see no reason why Microsoft would remove access to it), and WMR for steamvr is available (same reason) there should be no reason why it would stop working. I mean, eventually some new software wouldn't be compatible, but that wouldn't stop old supported software from working?
In a word Microsoft. In Windows 11 24H2 update, it is no longer available/working. If you are on Windows 10 or only update security patches, you'll probably be fine until you have new hardware requiring an update. Hopefully, an open option will keep WMR users afloat in the future. 🤞
Can confirm, I was able to launch my old instance of WMR portal, and Steam VR for WMR. I also was able to download another copy of the portal on a different pc and get it to work. So at least for the time being everything still works, and I am on the latest available version of Win11 on both PCs.
@7MBoosted hopefully Windows detects that you use WMR and blocks the update, I'm assuming you're on 23H2. This is Microsoft's own article on the subject. learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/whats-new/deprecated-features 'Windows Mixed Reality is deprecated and will be removed in Windows 11, version 24H2. This deprecation includes the Mixed Reality Portal app, Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR, and Steam VR Beta. Existing Windows Mixed Reality devices will continue to work with Steam through November 2026, if users remain on their current released version of Windows 11, version 23H2. After November 2026, Windows Mixed Reality will no longer receive security updates, nonsecurity updates, bug fixes, technical support, or online technical content updates.'
@Teqqlesdoessimracing maybe I am on 23H2. But good to know about the upgrade. I don't know why they wouldn't just leave it all available and put a disclaimer of, "use at your own risk." That seems like the better option, but hopefully an open-source option will allow WMR hardware to continue working after 2026. I get really frustrated by choices that create e-waste unnecessarily.
I've seen some of the fallout in Discord so know exactly what you're talking about. The queries I've asked have been handled quickly but I've yet to have a hardware specific fault.
