got 2 wasr's before the 2020 election b/c of AKOU 47! thank u for ur unbiased, rigorous reviews! get a sponsorship or royalty from century for all ur wsr sales!
@@troubleinbound congrats on choice of AK! wasr is according to my research the toyota camry of ak's (AKOU can correct me if i'm wrong). i wouldn't get rid of ur AR tho. if i could only have ONE gun in the US it'd b AR. However, I will say 7.62x39 ammo has always been available, even in CA, during the worst of the ammo/covid/election scares thus far, which led me to diversify the tools i have and pickup some wasr's.
@@byb-bangforyourbuck2353 I feel that, I hate getting rid of my AR but I just don't see things getting easier for a long while. The election is scaring the shit outta me, the civil unrest isn't calming down and 5.56 and .223 is actually prohibitively expensive for me at the moment. Hopefully one day I'll be able to have another in the future but right now it makes sense to have a rifle I could actually use if need be Also I've been playing a lot of Escape From Tarkov lately and AKs are all I think about lmao
@@troubleinbound Don't worry man, Trump will win, the polls don't mean jack squat. But good for you for getting an Ak picking up my first tomorrow (Hopefully)(PSA gf3)
I bought a WASR a couple years ago expecting problems. None. The wood sucked, replaced it with a Zhukov Stock and MOE forend. Bought your Primary arms 4x ACSS prism sight and had my pimp gun... decided it was too pimp, and too heavy. Bought your used Russian Red wood stock, took off the scope, now iron sights.. Now it looks correct to me..shoots the same...goes every time. I did replace the Paper Clip with the retention plate after the clip failed and I lost the trigger pin. Don't forget to do that, people.
I started AK journey with a RAS-47. Then I started watching AKOU. Then I throwing out the RAS and getting the WASR and never looked back. The mighty WASR wins again!!
Another great video Rob! I got two wasr's just a few weeks ago. A guy was selling off his guns, downsizing. Got both for $300 a piece! Ones a fixed stock the other was a underfolder with box. No canted sights, only slight mag wobble on one. Both are like new. I'm in the process of making the UF a md65 clone with the dong grip. I love the look of the classic akm's.
@@jeffd1337 my c39v2 jammed and died after about 300 rounds and they replaced it with a VSKA. I actually have a video of it on my channel. I was very upset because I loved the way it looked all black.
I've had my WASR10 since I was 17! Mine must be a real honey, bec mine is a bad bitch with none of the reported issues. I got mine back in the day for 200$. Granted it was all wood, but it's completely overhauled, it's got an ultimak, PA advanced Micro dot, MI 2 chamber brake, polished internals, Magpul buttstock and foregrip and light mount. She's dressed right bros and she's plenty accurate with shit ammo. The farthest I've ever shot it was ~200yrds but I connected every shot! I go for this rifle every time. It's my favorite gun for sure.
When I grabbed my WASR the sales guy was poiting towards a C39v2, "that one there has a better finish for just a little bit more money".... I said no, without really knowing much about both AKs. So glad I didnt get that c39
My dad pick up a wasr10/63 after the ban was lifted when I was a kid . I remember going in to the gun shop a bunch laying in a barrel going for cheap. Looking back now wish he would have gotten a few more lol.
Rob can you do a video on you painting I have been really wanting to do a paint job on some of my ak's and have been reluctant because of lack of experience and knowledge Thank you Bud, you make great videos
I picked up my WASR in 2021 after watching many of your videos and torture tests. Thanks so much for your advice. I'm finally in a position financially to pimp my WASR out and I know I'm gonna love it even more.
My AK addiction started back in the early 90s, my dad bought a Norinco Mak90 for a paltry $189. Walnut thumb hole stock, chrome lined barrel and two 5 rnd mags. The following weekend, we went to the gun shop and he bought another 10 mags at a cost of $3 each! I was 12 yrs old and never looked back, I was addicted. I'm 39 now and finally got my first AR, because my wife bought it for Christmas, lol. I like it but my Kalashnikovs are still my love affair.
Thank you Rob , You are the best , I have a WASR 10, I've had it for over Ten year's it is marked with a date of 1975 and it's number matching. The sad part is I've never sent round's down range. I plan to this summer. Thank's again from the Great State of Washington.
my Arsenal 107R is a great shooter. My Wasr 10 shoots just as well. I love the camo job you did on yours Rob! Appreciate the work you put into your videos also!
I agree my slr107r doesn't do anything my Wasr cant do.Slr sights are almost spot on and so are the Wasr sights. The Wasr is a little more accurate and reliable for $200 less.
I love my WASR! Maybe close to 7k rounds through it so far, and about a quarter of that fired with a bump stock just for fun, and never had an issue of any kind. I've run just about any ammo I could get my hands on, but it's never choked. Time to do some upgrades on it and turn it into something I wouldn't mind just looking at when not at the range, or in the Nevada desert..
I picked up a WASR10 earlier this year for like $650 after taxes. I've been looking at AK building stuff non-stop. I'm even considering an AK build class over at Rifle Dynamics... please help I need an intervention.
When you said" gate way drug" I nearly spit coffee all over my key board! it was my first AK (GP10/63UF) now my friends think I may have an AK problem!!
I bought my WASR 10 over 20 years ago for $250.00. While my dad paid close to $1400.00 for his AR at the same time. I've put countless rounds through that thing. I've used it for hunting deer and coyotes. By far one of my favorite rifles. I've convinced friends to look into them and they love them as well. My kids are already arguing on who will get it when it comes time to pass it down..
I just recently found these videos and am greatly enjoying them. I bought a WASR in the early 2000s because I'd always wanted an AK-47 and it was.....$350.00! New! How could you not buy it? However, until I started following your vids, I had only shot it a dozen times. It wasn't fun to shoot, and I couldn't hit anything with it. The first time I fired it, it cut my finger about halfway to the bone! After watching you, I was inspired to drag it out and make something out of it. I'm super happy I did. For a very small investment, It's gone from a weapon I only shot as a gag, to a rifle that's actually useful and fun. Thanks for all the great tips!
Rob, totally agree with you on the WASR 10. I have three of them bought them on the cheap and accessorized them to make them into fine shooting rifles. Thanks for what you do.
Well, the WASR began life as an AK military weapon before a semi-auto trigger group was added and a thread plug welded to the end of the barrel. I bought mine at a local gun store quite a number of years ago. It is perfectly reliable and has never suffered a mis-feed.
My AK is a WASR and it's been great! Bought it January 2015 and it has been very fun to shoot. I know people talk about the bad quality of older WASRs from the 1990s, but they've definitely improved them. Mine did not have canted sights and the mag well was perfect and it feeds and locks in all variety of mags I have (TAPCO, Magpul, suplus steel etc). My wood stock cracked near the tang and a big chunk broke off but I now have Magpul MOE furniture and it's perfect. Prices have gone up on WASRs but they're still cheaper than Arsenals and I take a WASR over any of the RAS or C39 series Century guns any day! Thanks for the video Rob!
Makes me miss my rusty WASR. It was a good trunk gun. The trigger was very bad, but most were around 2004. It shot every type of ammo without fail. Sure it had magwell problems, but it never stopped working.
Older video, but I'll respond. I love the idea of the optic. I'll definitely be looking to get one. Though I'm keeping the wood furniture, it's what I prefer.
I bought my first WASR10 in 2006 for about 400$ total - ran it for about 3 years & several thousand rounds & not one issue. Wish I woulda never sold it.
I had to do a double check. I was doing dishes and listening to the post. Rob's accent made flashlight sound like "fleshlight". I mean loving AK is great. LUUVING AK is a personal choice I wouldn't recommend.
The intro to this video was great lol. my Wasr is inbound to the shop, i can't wait to go dump a case of ammo through it then get better furniture for it.
Obama years, there was a law passed that a certain number of American parts had to be added for sale so rifles were not shipped fully assembled from what the dealer I purchased mine told me. They had to finish assembly of those parts before sale. Many used inexpensive parts to keep price at a level the consumers were willing to pay. Fitted mine with MOE and magpul for longer stock and comfort up front, much like yours. Love it, fun and economical and ergonomically correct.
I put the piston from my Zastava M70 in the lathe and drilled a .18 hole about 1" deep into it. Tamed it down quite well. It used to eject cases 30' to my direct right at minimum, now it ejects 10' forward right. Tamed its recoil quite well, but mine was severely over gassed. Haven't had any failures the past 800 rounds since I did it either.
Saw a wasr 10 in gun store for $850 the other day completely stock with the light color wood on it.. I paid $599 1-2 years ago for mine. I upgraded the hand guard but just striped the wood stock and refinished with stain and poly coat looks bad ass hasn't cracked yet and I don't think it will wood looks and felt sturdy... Never had a fail what so ever with this ak only have shot around 1000 rds through it. Kinda wish I got a milled receiver but I love my wasr..
Totally true as a gateway drug. This was my 1st rifle or pistol purchase. I have many many rounds through mine. How is that ALG trigger treating your bolt carrier? Has this passed 15,000 rounds yet? Love your channels man keep it up.
Mine was fine out of the box other than the windage being off. Had birch wood furniture. This was in 2013 though. I basically updated the rifle to AKM with polymer stock, handgaurd, and grip. Alot of fitting was needed though. I think the Aresenal furniture set is over $200 now which is crazy. Also added an AK-103 style muzzle brake and a FAB defense 3 point sling. I lucked up when Andean Inc was going out of business. Got the Muzzle brake and 4 BHO Yugo magazines for $40. Really wished I would have bought some Bakelite magazines back then as they were $60 a piece. Those bolt hold open magazines are by far the best thing i've purchased for the rifle. Only thing that was aggrvating was cleaning the cosmoline off them. Once cleaned though the steel had a beautiful deep blue shine. Pretty sure those were new old stock magazines. Can't find Yugo magazines anywhere now for less than $30 a piece. If I would have known that bolt hold open magazines were going to become a sort of commodity I would have bought 20 of them.
My warsawer 10 is an under folder and I like that too it has a hard polymer stock black I bought it for about five beans and absolutely love it a few years ago thanks for your videos
Great video. It points out that the cheap wood furniture on a WASR10 is not a problem especially if you are like many buyers who will change out the wood furniture anyway to more functional furniture like some of the suggestions shown in the video. Nice to know that the Romanian barrels and other key components of the WASR10 are well made and make for a desirable foundation for a durable AK. The pimped out WASR looks great and I after watching this video tricked out my AK in a similar way, although I prefer the Primary Arms CYCLOPS 1x scope which is better for me for close and short range (under 200 yards) shooting; and a Krebs safely which also has a hold open notch that can be used to more easily show the gun is safe and a load is not chambered. Cool paint job too! I will be doing that mod soon.
Romanian AKs are power horses. They just fire and fire and fire. I built two Romanian AKs one with the AIM-G handguard and one with a traditional wood furniture. I also replaced the furniture on my WASR.
The only thing I did to mine was put a mount on the rail. I like the wood fore grip because it keeps the heat away from my hand better than composite. I might consider a longer stock, but haven’t found the one I like enough to change it out. I want a wooden one.
Hey bro I really like what you are doing. All your information is very helpful and I think it is really great that you are educating all AK owners or everyone that is looking into AK's with all your knowledge. I just subscribed and to be honest you are the first and only channel on this topic I have subscribed to. Really keep it up bro. -Mike
With my WASR, I'm in absolutely no hurry to get another AK. All I've done was put a CNC/Bonesteel folding stock on it and varnish the front handguards. A polymer handguard is in the works, but I'm in no hurry.
When i got my WASR10 i had the money to buy any commercially available AKM that was on the market at the time (which was MUCH more than whats available right now in this new shitty era) I seriously considered the Galil ACE. Decided on the WASR10 because of two things. 1, the inherent QUALITY of the rifles components (although fit and finish are subpar on a stock WASR10, and the commercial furniture is indeed garbage, the BCG and barreled action themselves are amongst the best to ever be imported) and 2, The base price of the rifle considering it's CUSTOMIZATION POTENTIAL. At the time i paid $650 for the base rifle. By the time i was done i had 2.5K in a WASR10. I upgraded every conceivable part/thing on the rifle with the exception of the barreled action and bolt. Had it hot-tank blued. M+M mag release. Ghost ring rear leaf. Tritium front post. Polish extended safety. Retaining plate. It came stock with the excellent RAK-1 trigger. Magpul MOE pistol grip and handguards. Magpul Zhukov Stock with the optional cheek riser. Primary Arms 3x illuminated optic. RS Regulate mount. ALG recoil spring. KNS adjustable gas piston. Bulgarian extended charging handle. Damage Industries 3 prong flash hider, bayonet compatable. Surefire weapon light. Romanian bayonet. Unissued Romanian leather sling. Im probably still forgetting some things haha. I've shot Arsenals, Zastavas, Sagias, Radoms, Norincos, and a slew of parts builds from Hungarian to Egyptian (never got to shoot a Molot) As it now sits I'd have this rifle over anything else that has ever been imported into the U.S that i have had the chance to shoot, except maybe a NOS pre-ban Norinco. Edit: I purchased a lot of that stuff from the AKOU store 😁
Me: Rob has no idea what he's talking about when he says the WASR 10 is just a gateway drug. I'll satisfy my AK thirst with a WASR 10. Me with a WASR 10 : *Constantly checking gunbroker for a good deal on Vepr* (Note: I'm 100% happy with my WASR and would recommend it)
Just subscribed Rob, appreciate how dedicated you are to the firearm community. About to purchase my first AK47 and I hope it's the fit I've been looking for.
For those wondering you can still get US palm grips on a lot of Airsoft websites, US palm did a production run for the Airsoft market before they went under and that's how I got mine i assume it's of the same construction because mine is built like tank.
Who thinks that the price of guns are getting out of control? Gun manufacturers, and the NRA have done well these past few years. So well that it costs more to even be a gun owner.
I’m not sure if your statement is correct. Prices for AR10 and AR15 and accessories and barrels are at the rock bottom...it is true that AK market prices are spiking up, but that’s what happens when supply of AKs from Europe is getting trimmed by sanctions and another import issues...
Ak Operators Union, Local 47-74 Do you really think prices will fall below a $1,000 price point for a ak if there was more supply?? Why would firearms importers, and manufacturers take the pay cut? The market is perfect for sanctions to be lifted, because importers would make a killing. Your rebuttal about ar’s is just deflection. You know I’m right. The AK is a tool for The People. But now it’s a tool for capitalists.
Jester Avrgjoe What are you talking about? You can get a sub MoA bolt action rifle for $250, a pump action shotgun for $250, a .22 plinker for $200, an AR-15 for $400, and a decent handgun for $350. Gun ownership has probably never been cheaper. Of course, if you're into collecting guns that have a low or fixed supply, you're going to pay more for them.
Hey could you tell me the name of that scope and that scope mount again please I was really into that but I didn't catch the name and where I could find it thank you
Hey how you doing love your videos I have an AK Washington from about 1995 or 96 it is a perfect shooter I run a virus red Dot fastfire too with a LaRue setup that puts a hood over it which helps a whole lot from sunlight it is excellent and I love it q
Just ordered mine, can't wait to take it to the range. Not looking forward to spending a lot to upgrade, but it will be my first ak so I will try my best to make it work for me. Taking deer at 100m is my only objective
I paid $500 in 2012 for my Wasr10 came of a wooden vertical grip in the front I love it the wood on mine's actually really nice bright cherry-red no cracks no nothing got a few thousand rounds down it
I still consider the WASR a top notch stock rifle. While the furniture sucks the rifle itself is as close as you can basically get to a real AKM other than buying a used Maddi Masr which was as close to the Russian AKM as possible. This all within a price range all can afford. I have all types of AKs and AKMs but I always go back to my WASRs because they work w/o issues.
Fingers crossed when we get a new government in Canada next year we can finally have ak's. I'll be first in line to get a wasr. We can have any other firearm in 7.62x39 so it's time to get the ak
I have a wasr 10/63 from before century arms started importing them. How ever I do have a folding stock from magpul I think it's called the zucov side folder. Plus matching furniture for it. I plan on getting a bfsiii and I really want a good comp for it with a blast forwarding cage and a qd suppressor mount
Hey Rob, I have a Primary arms Cyclops scope on pre-order. I am going with the RS Regulate side mount setup. Do I need the (forward biased) rail or the (full length) rail along with the (akml)?
Every waser 10 I've ever known anyone to have has always been a beast. Only one person I know has actually kept the original wood it came with. The wood is crappy, adjustable stock all day long
