I’m 3 years late but the quote of the year is “Make sure, don’t be stupid, that there is no cartridge inside the chamber, otherwise you will be facing ah’ natural selection”
I caught that too, and was laughing out loud ! " Guys, he are a funny guy ! " Sept one thing......he had you moving the front sight in the wrong direction. And I know he knows what the correct direction is to align the sights as he is truly all knowledgable RE AKs.
AR discrepancy: A control is too heavy/light. AR solution: Buy new parts for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. AK discrepancy: A control is too heavy/light. AK solution: Just bend it with hand, komrade!
I'm a weapons tech for a NATO member country. We're expected to be knowledgeable about foreign weapons we're expected to encounter on the battlefield, although my particular country doesn't offer much, if any, training. AK's are banned in my Country so I find this series very useful and informative. Thanks for the good work, keep em' coming.
Reggie Chabassol only NATO member country I know of which bans the AK pattern by name is the one I'm living in... Canada. you also Canadian by any chance?
I have been shooting for almost 50 years but I am only now getting my first AK. This video was a great version of "AK's for Dummies". It is straightforward and simple and will allow a new AK user to be comfortable with their rifle whether they are an experienced shooter or brand new to firearms. Well done. Thank you.
Grew up with an HK G3 (loved it) in Germany, but then spent 30 plus years in America and build many AR 15's to meet my requirements. Absolutely love the AR 15, but just bought my first AK 47 (M&M out of Colorado). Well, what can I say, AR's are are just like a BMW, Audi, Cadillac, GMC or Lincoln and an AK 47 is just like a tractor. But, I totally love it, simple, always works, never let me down, no hick-ups (5,000 rounds of the cheapest ammo I ever bought, 16-20 cents a round). This video told me more than I ever hoped to learn in 30 minutes anywhere. Great channel, love this guy, and no, I am not related to him!
It's nice to see other German immigrants living their love for guns in the U.S. Couldn't agree more with you that the AR-15 is much more refined but sometimes there's enjoyment in the crude and simple things.
@@AnthonyBoettcher24 Yes, the AK is a way more reliable, rugged, powerful, lots of everything I like rifle. I personally hate the AR-15/M-16 and the round it chambers. So, you are a German immigrant? Cool, we need more German minds here in America. Such a smart, inventive, and innovative people and country that has brought the world so many great things, many of which I rely on ( Oxycodone and Morphine for my nasty chronic, lifelong pain ) so many great guns that I enjoy and defend myself, family, property, and business with, the jet engine, and much more, so many things. I have to ask since it seemed to be mentioned, are you guys not allowed to own guns ( I assume you can own hunting rifles and shotguns in pretty much any country ) in Germany besides hunting rifles ( bolt actions ) and shotguns? That would be really odd because some of my favorite guns are made in Germany and Austria : H&K, Sig Saur, Glock ( Austria ), and many more. My daily concealed carry gun is usually a Sig Saur P229 in .40 caliber, a .40 caliber Glock 23, sometimes a .45ACP caliber Glock 30, and I prefer Glock, H&K, Sig Saur pistols, AKMs of various nationalities for rifles ( and the AK is basically a copy of the STG 44 used by Germany in WW2, primarily by Waffen SS units ), and I really like the H&K-G3 .308 rifle ( I had to buy the Spanish copy, the CETME, because I couldn't afford the H&K G-3 way back in the early 1990s ). It would be weird, to my way of thinking, if Germany, the producer of so many great weapons, didn't allow it's own citizens to own those great weapons. So what can a regular civilian own in Germany?
@@cthulhu6697 Well, here in Germany we can buy almost the same toys as the US citizen. We can't get full autos, unfortunately. And some guns are only available for hunters and collectors, not for sports shooters. Such like AK 47 in 7,62x 39.We can get them in 308 and 223. I have a Zastava M2010 in 223 and in 308.Both are fine toys and it's so much fun shooting them. Another fine toy is my K98. It's a german one that was captured by the yugo in 1944 so it shows the former yugo sign. But they couldn't remove all the german stamps so one can see its actually a german gun. That's also one of my favorites. And as a side gun I got a Ruger GP 100.I absolutely love the Ruger. Greets from Germany.
@@TexasChilliMassacre Greetings from America, mein brudder ( sorry, my German is rusty but I still remember some ). So you can't get the AKM in 7.62x39mm? That's crazy. I would much rather have 20 round mags of .308 than 30 and 40 round mags of .223/5.56x45mm any day, so I'd pick the .308. I have never seen a .308 AK in the U.S. , the closest to that we generally see here is the Galil ( which comes in 7.62x39, .308, and 5.56/.223 ). I have a few WW2 bolt actions in my gun collection and 2 of them are Mauser K98s. One is an arsenal rebuild that was actually used in Finland with the stamped crown of Finland on the upper receiver and chambered in 6.5 Swedish Mauser and the other is a German 8mm Mauser that wasn't issued before the end of the war. Finding 8mm Mauser ammo in the U.S. is hard, so I have about 100 rounds for it that. I also have a couple of .357 magnums in my collection and the Ruger GP 100 is among them. Mine is black with a 3 inch barrel, but I prefer semi-auto pistols in .45 and .40 calibers. Among the vintage guns in my collection is a WW2 era Walther PPK in .32ACP with the German military markings and a Colt 1911 .45ACP ( my favorite pistol round, a .45 will put your attacker on his ass and keep him there ). I would like an STG 44 and Gewehr 43, but the rounds and mags for the STG 44 would have to be ordered custom made in the U.S. Can you get working STG 44 reproductions and the magazines and ammo for them in Germany? The next AK I buy ( I have a Chinese MAK 90 and Romanian Romak ) is getting ready to be a Zastava ZPAP M 70 in 7.62x39mm. I'm not familiar with the Zastava M 2010. Cool talking to you. I have family in Germany ( mostly in Cologne ) that I've never met and I'm going to visit Germany when I'm able. I would like to see Berlin and the High Gothic architecture. Auf wider sehen, mein kommerad ( hope I spelled that right
Derreon Hunter Enjoy it man took mine to the range the other day, extremely satisfied but I already bought a retaining plate because that Shepherd pin in the rifle is annoying as hell to put back in.
As long as you got it for under $600 you did okay- the Yugoslav N-pap series is totally better quality as is the Saiga pattern It’s akin to buying a Del Ton compared to a Colt AR-15...
Robski, I share your videos with all my friends. I've owned AK'S for over 30 years, built some from kits, and prefer them over almost every other platform. I continue to learn from your videos and have bought from your store. Please keep up the great work. Your honest appraisals of various manufacturer's products help me spend my money wisely when adding to my collection or making improvements to existing platforms. Thank you for all your hard work. Have a happy new year!
Dude you’re awesome and very informative. I’m a new gun owner and my first gun is an AK. I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and I learned a lot about AKs and other rifles. “Natural selection” had me 😂😂
Haven't touched an AK since 1971 in Nam and just bought a PSA 47 Gen 3. So this was a very instructive video that brought me back to speed along with useful insights from a guy with some pro time on the platform. Watch Rob shoot the vest drills, he isn't some bs"er he's the real deal. Bolshoe spasibo!!
This guide is the first thing I ever ‘liked’ in my life. Your delightful combination of comfortable Western idiom with a fairly thick accent made me laugh out loud, but I was gripped by your explicit presentation of safe & sensible handling. I thought your earthy dialogue, CDF and knowing smile was like a typical Australian Army Corporal, and that’s the best compliment I can give. I was also astonished at how steady the muzzle was during auto firing. Nice one.
Ah geez this was so perfect. Thank you so much for this information. I’ve been researching the AK platform for a while and this video is by far the most complete and simple instruction on the function, field strip, and zero of an AK. I believe the AK is the best rifle available today even after extensive use of the AR platform. I’m excited to see how I can perform with one soon.
You're the best Rob! I've gotten into AKs this past year because of your videos. It helps that at least some 7.62x39 is still available through all of 2020 and so far in 2021.
Dude you're telling me. By the time I was knowledgeable and responsible enough to purchase a long gun they were anywhere from 700 to 1400. I remember when I was just a kid, gun stores with my dad, the price tags were half that! The pain is real my friend.
This is just what I was looking for. I had an AK47 from a while ago that I never shot and finally pulled it out and just recently started tinkering with it, then I find this video. Perfect timing and a testament to the value you present as it still brings you viewers over 7 years after you posted it. Great video.
I started watching your series, until 3 am came around. You answered all those little questions I had and corrected a few things I had wrong.... you have a new customer...
Just bought my first AK. Knew I was making the right choice for simplicity. Thanks for the awesome break down and functions. I will be watching more on this series. Great Job!!!
Rob Ski, I just bought my very first AK over a week ago, and I 've been watching your videos since then everyday. BIG thanks for your work ! Greetings from Poland :-)
This video did not teach me anything new about the operation of my Ak, but it definitely taught me to stop babying it. I was afraid of small scratches but now that I've see Rob using the dust cover as a prybar, I'll be less worried about scratching it. Thanks Rob, great video sir! Earned my sub for sure!
This is a most useful video. Thank you. Sometimes the most basic things need to be taught, retaught, learned, and relearned. I always lived the gas block, to prevent corrosion, but I think I will stop that today.
Your instruction is flawless sir! I could not have found a better presentation anywhere! I truly enjoyed your explanations and so much common sense provided. You most certainly have a new fan!!
This is my first trip to your channel, I luckily happened across it . However it wont be my last trip. You are very informative clear and yo the point. Thank you for the effort you invest in your helpful videos
I just field stripped my Zastava for the very first time (only had it for literally 3 days), and I used a small rubber mallet with a rag placed over the hand guards to protect the surface as I moved the lever up. It did take some effort but once I got it knocked loose, it was very easy to remove the gas tube. I did also have to "tap" the lever back into place; however, it went back a lot easier than it went up! I would never try using pliers for something like that! Glad I got educated on how to do it. This method looks fairly simple as well, and the simpler the better! 👍
dude. u helped my son hit a 1000 yards atc12 yrs old. I mean he has my natural talent 😌 but ur awesome. he's now in the military doing classified things. but I'll always be thankful for ur teaching techniques thank you rex
I've owned aks for years now but yet I still watch the video lol..gotta love the akou..keep up the good work guys.

In “Tales of the Gun”, Kalashnikov was interviewed and claimed that there were no similarities between his gun and Schmeisser’s. This was in the 1990s. Around 2002-2003 he said he drew “a little bit of inspiration” from the Sturmgewehr, negating what he said a few years earlier. Then in 2009 he admitted to working alongside Schmeisser and that he “helped” design the AK But Schmeisser couldn’t simply “help” him. Schmeisser was working in Izhevsk while Kalashnikov was supposedly developing the AK-47 from 1945 to 1947 in a different plant, in the city of Kovrov. Russian experts admit it is hard to determine Hugo Schmeisser’s contribution to the design and development of the AK-47 assault rifle because all official documents pertaining to his time working alongside Kalashnikov as a gun designer are still classified (suspicion increases). In 1945 the USSR made 50 StG44s from parts and confiscated 10,785 sheets of technical designs. In October 1945, Schmeisser was forced to work for the Red Army and instructed to continue development of new weapons. He worked for them for 7 years, then died the year he moved back to Germany. The early AKs were stamped, but came apart forcing the Russians to use a milled receiver. Ok, so the facts can make even the most stubborn AK fan raise an eyebrow. Also, If you’re familiar with how the USSR did things, then it all makes sense that Kalashnikov would make a great poster child for designing this symbol of national pride. They put this “common soldier” with a humble, agrarian background on a pedestal as an example of how great and excellent communism was. If the above facts are taken in to account, he may for all we know have been Schmeisser’s errand boy. He never spoke like a humble engineer deserved of respect in interviews, and even lied about Schmeisser being involved in the project at all for many decades.
@Doc I'm definitely not starting a fight but Kalashnikov spoke engineering, he did design an optic for the T34 that's non-disputable, he talked at length on differences of the Stoner design which he knew quite well to my shock and though by the time they met and talked the 74 had long ago come out and fixed the recoil and cartridge problem, if you can call it that, and it was Stoner if I recall that humbly said great things about the AK but I think it was undeserving as they only discussed his AR and not his other fascinating designs which probably outdid the AK in terms of engineering originality and brilliance but now I'm just rambling, but are you saying Schhhhmizar designed the AK in whole and credit went to Mikhail? I think if so that's a crack pot theory, Mikhail DID say he was wholy unaware of the STG the 44 or 45, and other times he has talked as though he had his design laid out and compared it to the STG like he was in 1944-45 because he has stated my favorite rifle and designer Sergei Simonov and his SKS competed with the AK and due to long standing political influence Sergei's won out, it's very confusing and even a great book series I have on engineering behind Stoners and Mikhails and so on so forth's design makes it admittedly muddy where and when and what version of the AK comes when and where, timeline is all fucked up but I don't blame Mikhail at all, he was ancient when all this timeline stuff got serious and he has indeed retold his story so much that he gets facts wrong, but I am certain the AK came from his mind, tweaked and influenced by others but I don't think someone else as you claim wholly made the design up and he was shoved in as a Patsy, that's just kinda crazy and I'm not an AK crazy fan boy, I'm an SKS crazy fan boy lmao so no feelings to get hurt if you can clear your statement up or give more information
@ Somnio 64 Hey, I'm getting ready to buy my 3rd AK here at 46 years old ( I guess I'm getting slack in middle age ). I have a MAK-90 ( a good one, after they fixed the initial glitches ) and a Romanian Romak that I bought way back in the 90s when AKs were affordable to just about everybody. Trying to choose between sweet deals from 2 different people who really need the money because of being out of work due to covid ( which has been good for my business ). Between a Yugoslavian M-70 rifle ( which I've wanted for years ), and a Serbian Zastava ZPAP. Which rifle would you buy?
+Kory Flanigan you would be surprised, how many messages per day I have with questions about basic field strip only...now I can just copy and paste link...;-)
Kory Flanigan hahahahaha.....middle school health film you had to get signed permision to watch... Your Changing Body And How to Respond..."Johny feels something odd in his groin hes never felt for Suzy" later she calls him a little bitch and johny goes home to beat off. lol I stop the vid at 50 secs. This is a good intro film for the new to the AK types. Good job again RobSki.
For someone that is brand new to ak this was very helpful. I think most guys don't get involved with ak because they are uniformed. I'm all over them now all ready have plans for my next one.
Thankyou for this video. I was an Armourer in the Royal Marines but never had a chance to work or fire one of the icons of military weapons. Once again thankyou. 8
I've got to say, This video was awesome. I'm an AR person trying to get into the AK world and this video was really helpful. Specially the using the AK parts to disassemble the rifle. I would have been that idiot with pliers. Also watching rob put together that rifle, You can tell this man knows his rifle inside and out. Thanks for the video, Rob!
As far as I know from the comparisons that have been made, Russian AKs are the best, then Finish, then Polish, then Chinese, the Romanian. But those where contemporary tests, made a few years ago. America did not have a sizeable AK market back when the tests were done. But as with all things, my home nations products are more expensive, so I will avoid buying one made here, for multiple reasons, that being one of them. But I also cannot buy Russian ones because of import laws, so I will probably go with Finish.
if it's your 1st AK get a WASR 10/63. cheap and reliable. Once you get a good feel for the platform you can either sell it or keep it and buy a new one. I've had mine for 7 years now and I love it. Just check the rivets and make sure they're OK. I can pretty much guarantee the front sight will be crooked but you can fix all that easy. I guess welcome to the AK family. Lol
Thanks for the informative videos Rob! I’m new to the AK platform, just purchased an Arsenal SAM7R, haven’t gotten it yet. I like the way the wood looks on it so I bought cherry wood for it. Also a venom tactical “antidote” muzzle brake. I hope to enjoy it soon. I’ll be watching your videos so I can learn more about these beautiful rifles! Thanks again man...👍🏻
7:36 "Natural Selection" That's why i love your channel! Lots of humor! Anyway you know, (sure not yet) a guy at our range has been swiping a 300 (Fully loaded) Win Mag semi-auto riffle at us. This was the last time he came to the range... Natural born idiot exist! Best regards from France! 🖖🏻😎🇫🇷😇🖖🏻
8:10 speaking about cleaning the barrel, I follow Reid Hendricks advice and don't do it. Run a patch through, and done. The rifle will be fine, and become more accurate. It's an AK, not a safe queen...
I really appreciate this video. I just purchased my first AK today to add to my gun collection. I've always collected AR type rifles, lever action rifles, bolt action long guns, pdw's and pistols/handguns. For some reason, I've never been interested in the AK rifle. I recently decided to add one to my collection and I'll admit, I knew very little about them. I did a lot of research about purchasing, but didn't know much about owning one and how it works. Some will say this is basic knowledge of operating an AK, but when you have little to no experience owning one, it's nice to have a detailed video like this! Thanks for taking the time to make this series and I'm excited to watch the rest of the videos you made on this type of rifle. I'm quickly falling in love with the AK and I am excited about learning all about this rifle. Thanks again. You've helped to take out the whole trial and error that we are presented with when making a purchase of something that we know little about, but are interested in knowing all about!
Ak Operators Union, Local 47-74 Thanks for having me! Your videos came in huge!! I stripped my new rifle down today, cleaned and lubed. Never had to open the users manual, because of your in depth videos. It was really easy after watching the videos you put out on AK rifles. I went to the range and put 200 plus rounds through the rifle. No malfunctions with steel cased cheap ammo. I'm really not surprised though. These AK rifles have such a history, it was just nice to see it live up to the hype. Iron sites are solid. Your tips on sighting iron sites was awesome. Really made it easy. It helped me to know exactly what to do when I saw what I saw. Just ordered a Midwest Industries side mount to mount an optic. Really excited to test precision with a RDS. Maybe I'll test a magnified optic too, but I'm not really interested in using it for something over 100 meters. Thanks again for the videos. You really made getting to know this weapon system easy and really fun! You've helped me become a big fan of the AK type rifles and helped open a new door for me. Keep up the good work!
"metal filings" is the term you are looking for. Excellent tutorial, two thumbs up! Way up! Your English is pretty good. Love the accent! I am subscribing! Very detailed and informative! So easy to follow!
M1 Garand operator here (or whatever you'd call me). 7.62x39 doesn't scare me 30-06 in an M1 is getting there 7.62x54R out of a Mosin on the other hand...lol
That's what I said about skateboards. It uh, didn't go well. The foray into the word of skateboarding, that is. Turns out I'm a better shooter than skateboarder; my back and my knee and ankle joints agree.
AK Operators---- I found the answer to my dumb question in one of your other videos, concerning the 550 paracord sling mounts. Thank you for your expertise on this iconic weapon.
Just FYI..Army testing has proven that generous lubrication is more effective in dusty environments than light lube.. Living in a desert environment here in the U.S for over 10yrs, and being deployed to a foreign desert environment..I have found this to be true.. TMs should have been updated by now...
Don't believe all the NATO Propaganda bullshit. Putin did not even want to attack Ukraine Batterie only could not tolerate the festering shit and gun under his nose
