I like the way the pinecone is continual from one side to another.

Nice! Pinecone penblanks are really cool and make for really nice looking pens....going to head over and watch part 2 now :) I found that as long as you have high speeds, sharp tools, and slow light cuts you avoid a lot of the chipping out. Cool to see that the unstabilized cones seemed to work out well without bubbles!

Hi Pam, they're great! Ive made a couple of pinecone blanks and stabilized the pine cones first. when put in the oven they popped like popcorn and opened right up, perhaps i had the heat on to high and for only 15mins in the oven. good luck and look forward to part 2

Hello, congratulations for all your work. Why do you have to use ink and not just mica powder? Is it because you are looking for another shade of color or using ink helps save on the amount of mica powder? Sorry for my English

Hi Pam, another fantastic video. Don't you think it might be better to stabilize those pine cones instead natural? I think the pine cone fibers can be too soft (without stabilization) and may wear out gradually with time, use or become sawdust or anything else. Could you let us know if the new pigment worked well and where to find it? Thank you for sharing your knowledge :)

Salvi i get the pigment from metal clay it works well i will add the link. I dont think the un stabilised pine cone will be an issue its sealed in resin and finished with CA glue but time will tell i suppose. Thank you very much regards pam. www.metalclay.co.uk/alumilite-dye-red-29-6ml-1fl-oz/

Great job. Being useless at mental arithmetic myself I've got one tip for you when it comes to mixing. Pour out your resin and work out how much hardner you need to add then simply zeroise the scales. No need to try and do sums in your head 😊

Magic! What size pressure pot do you have, and how long to you put it on for? Thanks 😊
@Highlandboxes
@Highlandboxes 7 лет назад
Hi Nikki i have a 10L pot i put in for at least 8hours as resin is slow set and i cant de-mould till around 24 hours. Thank you Pam

What purpose does the pressure pot serve?
@Highlandboxes
@Highlandboxes 6 лет назад
To remove bubbles from the resin.

Always wondered how you estimate the total volume when mixing weight to weight? Do you stabilize the pine cones? ron USA
@Highlandboxes
@Highlandboxes 6 лет назад
Thank you Ronald i dry the pine cones before casting but they don't need to be stabilized :-)

A word to the wise , I found that when I turned mine the cones formed a texture on the surface , but it makes a nice effect .

Yeh thats also the same with the ones i done even with stabilised pinecones. Thank you Jim :-)
