Nice! Pinecone penblanks are really cool and make for really nice looking pens....going to head over and watch part 2 now :) I found that as long as you have high speeds, sharp tools, and slow light cuts you avoid a lot of the chipping out. Cool to see that the unstabilized cones seemed to work out well without bubbles!
Hi Pam, they're great! Ive made a couple of pinecone blanks and stabilized the pine cones first. when put in the oven they popped like popcorn and opened right up, perhaps i had the heat on to high and for only 15mins in the oven. good luck and look forward to part 2
Looking really nice Pam. Now I'm going to have to watch part 2, it's only 1:00 AM, luckily no work tomorrow but got to be up early for my new table saw being delivered.
Great stuff love new tools could really do with getting a tablesaw just got to find a 2ft square spot to put it lol. Thank you Paul glad you enjoyed. :-)
Hello, congratulations for all your work. Why do you have to use ink and not just mica powder? Is it because you are looking for another shade of color or using ink helps save on the amount of mica powder? Sorry for my English
Hi Pam, another fantastic video. Don't you think it might be better to stabilize those pine cones instead natural? I think the pine cone fibers can be too soft (without stabilization) and may wear out gradually with time, use or become sawdust or anything else. Could you let us know if the new pigment worked well and where to find it? Thank you for sharing your knowledge :)
Salvi i get the pigment from metal clay it works well i will add the link. I dont think the un stabilised pine cone will be an issue its sealed in resin and finished with CA glue but time will tell i suppose. Thank you very much regards pam. www.metalclay.co.uk/alumilite-dye-red-29-6ml-1fl-oz/
Great job. Being useless at mental arithmetic myself I've got one tip for you when it comes to mixing. Pour out your resin and work out how much hardner you need to add then simply zeroise the scales. No need to try and do sums in your head 😊
Yeh im looking to get one over next week or two, a couple of folk have said that so finally taking steps to sort it. Thank you for the feedback. Have a great day Pam :-)
