Gnome seems to be better suited for mobile anyway.

Thanks for the video without any hype. I was surprised at the lag time with some of the apps. Reminded me of Windows Vista🤣

At 3:20 calendar sync, make sure your are not in power save mode under gnome-control-center At 4:20 transfer files, try syncthing (I tried to share links, but yt removed my post)

Amberol (I believe it’s the flatpak version) works well for music playing and its ui fits-in quite well.

If I remember it correctly, it misbehaves a bit in mobile, as it is primarily built with the desktop in mind. I could be wrong tho.

@@softwarelivre2389 I don't actually own any linux-compatible smartphone, but I have a touchscreen laptop running GNOME, and when I try to resize the amberol window to a mobile-sized format, everything works fine. I don't see any valid reason why it would misbehave on a mobile format, but I may be wrong too as I don't own one. (considering buying a pinephone btw c:)

Hey, could you put in a tmoble sim in and use this as a hotspot, like android? I assume you would need a external battery bank like Anker?

I don't have T-Mobile, but I have used it as a hotspot a few times.

Unsure about the Pinephone but the Librem 5 which also uses Phosh can absolutely do this. For longer periods you will definitely need a power source and a means of keeping the phone cool though!
@soulstenance
@soulstenance 4 месяца назад
14:20 This looks like a bug. On my Librem 5 running PureOS/Phosh this does not happen and you can separately control airplane mode.

Oh, Bluetooth on the PinePhone-to really switch it off, you better unload the kernel module :D

@LINMOBnet
@LINMOBnet 3 месяца назад
@@soulstenance Yeah, but... most people want to use WiFi rather often, and even connecting a WiFi USB dongle is more convenient than using the tiny dip switch hardware kill switch on the PinePhone! (It's an option, but it's highly impractical - the Librem 5 has much better hardware kill switches.)
@soulstenance
@soulstenance 3 месяца назад
@@LINMOBnet Agreed. That was a pretty impractical design decision, though I suppose it's a tinker device while the L5 was intended to be more consumer facing. That said, unloading a kernel module is equally inconvenient for the average user. Unless one is a nerd like us, one likely won't even know what the heck you're talking about. 💁🤓😁

Manjaro and Plasma, I don't know man, I'm not really a fan of either one, well I get the idea of Manjaro having a more stable rolling release. Wouldn't it be better to use Debian in a smartphone? For stability, imagine if something broke and you needed to call 911, but then again I'm not an expert on how the PinePhone operates... only speculating.

the hardware of these phones is designed to be cheap to enable alot of people to buy it so it can be beta tested and developed for. it doesnt make sense to make 700$ lightning fast phone for people to buy until the software and all of its features and conveniences fully work and are dialed in

AllWinner A64 (the System on a Chip the PinePhone uses) is a really cheap chip that suffers from low memory bandwidth. PINE64 had used it in a bunch of other products before, it had good mainline Linux support at the time, so they went with it. If you want faster hardware, you can consider a Librem 5 (Purism have a bad rep, but they really did good by funding software development, e.g., Phosh, libhandy and libadwaita would likely not exist in the way they do without Purism's involvement), a PinePhone Pro (I can't quite recommend it though, battery life is terrible), or … cheap and fast, a OnePlus 6 and flash postmarketOS, Mobian, Droidian or one of the other distributions on it.
