@@enricopallazzorecords8628 I sometimes thought Roger's madness was much more intense than Syd, and the sad story is that Syd went catatonic and stopped his artistic wheel forever while Roger induced his dark unconscious malice upon the band for self invigorating purpose, and he is keep doing his intemts until now.
@@jimmytwotimes2758 Im curious how did Roger treat him? I never read anything about it. What I know is that Syd didnt want to see them but David mentioned he always made sure the royalties check always reached him. But I dont know about Roger.
I am really curious to know where PF would go with him maturing his songwriting more and more and Roger wanting more control. I believe Roger would be in full control much earlier than what it happened with Gilmour in.
@@enricopallazzorecords8628 Its difficoult to make a reasonable answer to the question this was early days of Pink Floyd. Your probably right about Rodger. He has later on in life proved to be single minded about various issues.Gilmore was the antidope to this. It is apparent Syd coud'nt cope despite his brilliance.
When I was in school, my friends were into the post Barrett Floyd, but, I promptly rejected David and Roger as poseurs. I’m 70 now and, I still feel the same way about Floyd. They had some good moments, but, this was Syd’s band. Kinda like the Brian Jones fiasco. This compilation is excellent! Thanks a bunch
Syd’s words remind me of the English countryside with the wind murmuring tales of nursery rhymes and other child hood memories…….a story telling diamond 🙏🏻
They were finally released! On the album “Early Years: 1965-1967.” I just found out today. So happy because when I found those songs the only versions available were terrible quality unmastered bootlegs.
@@enricopallazzorecords8628 David Gilmore once said that it was always easy for Syd to write a song...he never struggled for a word or note...it just came to him easily.
Saw Syd with PF at a little club called Cheetah Club in Santa Monica ( Actually Venice Beach ) in 1967. Two things it was great being 17 yrs old in 1967 and being from LA and surfing in and around Santa Monica, Longboards Rule To quote Roger Waters from the tune ' Free Four ' 1972 release Meddle " The memories of a man in his old age, are the deeds of a man in his prime ". Nice Drop Enrico, mahalo and Aloha Brah
Roger waters is a thief. Stole syd's band, syd's ideals, syd's songs, and then made a career out of the story of his 'dear' friend going mad. Hell he even made a movie about it and wanted to cast himself as the main character. He wanted to be syd soo bad
@@enricopallazzorecords8628 we wouldnt have banger albums like DSOTM or WYWH but i feel like he would have created a different direction for the band maybe in the same psychedelic roots and continued experimenting with how complex and abstract the music was going. Thats if he didnt get sick of the music industry and being famous
@@samurboi8007 I think if they went further into the psycodelic way the band would die really early and would be gone by 1973. I think over time Roger would have taken leadership of the band anyway and we would end up with the same albums, but in a different way. Or maybe Syd would leave the band to pursue his own sound and Gilmour/other guitarrist would join anyway. Who knows? One thing is certain, Roger Waters would take the leadership anyway.
What an amazing talent he was..... he just drifted off in another direction after his attention shifted away from music..... his music was better than his art or his other creations.... but that was up to him. A legend he is regardless......
The very rare Floyd song that I'm inquiring about is around 6-7 minutes long and is sung by Rick or Roger and came out around '69. It has a baroque style organ with an upbeat renissance melody and a trippy middle 8 guitar solo with a wah-wah sound. The lyrics are of one's reminiscing about a past love and how "movements still flow in his mind". I'm hoping that someone out there can tell me the title of this song
1979 - I bought Relics and the first 3 books of Frank Herbert's Dune. Over the space of 9 days after work snug in a beanbag I listened to Relics and read Dune all 3 books. Who needs LSD, when you've got Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd?
All the admirable accolades have been written here. I'd like to add. 1. Bowie's career was floundering, hardly getting anywhere. Syd "retired" Bowie stepped forward, took the originality tag. 2. Decade after decade, other so called "obscure original artists" did the same. 3. Most of Britpop in the 1990s, but the best example is Blur. I'll leave it there. I'd be here a long time otherwise. Thanks Syd, for your quintessential Englishnessness. Your eccentricity. Your boyhood charm. Mostly though your originality. You were a "Diamond Geezer" 😉 Mate 👉 🇬🇧 As for this channel? I'm assuming it's Italian. This compilation is fantastic, a very big thanks from me. I've obviously subscribed. Salutations, from Kensington and Chelsea; in London. 🇬🇧 🤝 🇮🇹
Yes I am Italian but curiously In a twist of destiny I ended up living in Cambridge, the origin city of my favourite band of all time. It took me a looong time to appreciate Syds music, I quite never really enjoyed floyd's first albums but was absolutely crazy about their phase starting on Meddle. Then 20 years later after I initially found them I decided to give "Piper" another try and wow, everything came together at once. Syd was a genius. I always wondered where the band would go if he had stayed. I also love Bowie and Blur :-)
@@enricopallazzorecords8628 Amazing story. Yes I agree. I'm similar, except my 1st album was Atom Heart Mother, the one before Meddle. Ah! Cambridge. Carols from Kings. 🙏
Undoubtedly a very enjoyable selection, there are two songs that aren't Syd's though. Take up Thy Stethoscope and walk (Waters) and Paintbox (Wright). Something else is that for some reason, In The Beechwoods is listed but is absent. Thanks for the upload anyways! Syd Barrett's genius is something to be remembered and heard for good.
Yes these are not Syd's but he plays guitar in it therefore I decided to include them. And unfortunately beechwoods was removed by youtube. Its a great tracks.
Terrible audio quality. The scratched up vinyl version of _A Nice Pair_ I had sounded better. Shit, I'm so tired of "content creators" on RU-vid churning out bad-quality repackaging.
Fair enough, but yet it impresses me you give so much importance to good audio quality and yet comes to you tube where audio quality will always be compromised due to the compression. If you want quality you better stick to lossless digital or vinyl.
I understand why you’ve included Take Up Thy Stethoscope for the guitar parts but the inclusion of anything Roger “Money” Waters related is a buzzkill for me.
Yes but I wanted to focus on the Pink Floyd songs era, even excluding the tea set songs, also I wanted to ignore demos and etc, focusing on the songs with more sonic quality.
You are correct about paintbox, I included it here because Syd plays guitar and backing vocals in it. Same reason why I included Stethoscope (which is a Waters song).
Since there is a reference to "songs", John Latham's "SPEAK" wasnt a song, but it was a recording with barrett, wright, waters & mason. The understanding i have is that the music offered by pf was rejected and Latham used his own "soundtrack" for the sounds. It is an obscure 1967 pf piece of music, though.
Syd gets respect for helping form the band, but I feel Pink Floyd really grew into it's own genre after he left. With Syd on board they always sounded a little like they were trying to copy the Beatles, rather than be their own thing.
Yes, I have explained it a few time sin the comments here. These songs were included in this collection because they have Syd in it playing guitars. The intend was to have all Syd era songs (except the Tea Set songs) in one place.
@@WillCate no problem. there is one track that could not be included here "in the beechwoods" it appears in the playlist but I had to remove as youtube blocks it. Its a very nice instrumental, take a listen later on PF channel.
Grazie! È interessante notare che mi piace molto il Prog Metal, ma non sono mai riuscito ad apprezzarmi davvero i Voivod. Attualmente sto ascoltando il loro nuovo album ma non riesco proprio a piacermi. Devo continuare a provare. Mi consigliate qualche loro album specifico?
@@enricopallazzorecords8628 guarda possiamo darci del tu, vero? Io avevo i primi album dei Voivod Roarrr Killing Technology, gli altri me li prestò mio fratello. Con l'avvento del grunge sono
You are 100% correct, but It's got Syd's guitars and backing vocals so I thought it would be ok to be in this collection. In the same vein, Stethoscope is a Waters song.
@@enricopallazzorecords8628 I think you might be confusing "Remember a Day," also authored by Rick Wright, with "Paint Box." It has long been said that Syd played on "Remember," but I can't recall ever reading he was present on "Paint Box" in any capacity. Regardless, thanks for this great song list! (Both those songs by Wright are vastly underrated, in my opinion, but that's another story.)
@@christopher9152 always great to talk about my favourite band! I love Ricks contributions and I really miss them on later albums. The guy only had great songs if you think about it, and his contributions to DSOTM were extremely important to how the album sounds. On Paintbox, it was the B-Side to Apples and Oranges (sung by Syd) so I believe they were recorded in the same sessions. Also the Wikipedia page states he played guitars and backing vocals in paintbox and this is why I decided to include it here, after a long thought if I should do it or not, as it doesnt sound at all as a Syd song. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paint_Box_(song) It says it was recorded in Oct 1967 and it seems Gilmour joined in Dec 1967, so I believe it might be Syd indeed on guitars.
I always get the chorus bit, "Freee Gaaames for Maaaay" stuck in my head, along with the "ahhhh-woooo...put on a gown, that touches the groouund" from the second verse break stuck in my head. By "Apples and Oranges," there's some hints at some possible issues going on. The scatterbrain verses relating to nothing, the dissonant whooping/yipping behind the vocals as the chorus segments trails off...pretty bizarre. Sure, the Floyd were "weird" and "experimental," but when it came to put out the radio friendly pop tracks, the subjects were strange on "Arnold Lane," and "See Emily Play," while the music was fairly standard pop structure fare..."Apples & Oranges" is pretty nutty, lol. I love that one, though.
Paintbox was written by Rick, not Syd. Love them both and wish they harmonized on more songs., can only wish. Damn Floyd was so incredible on so many levels.
I tend to agree. Especially Waters as he succeeded in marginalizing the rest of the band. I have this image of him listening to Barrett's Floyd for bursts of inspiration so much so that Syd should've gotten 5%.
I think Syd was the most talented member of the band and I wonder how much better they would have been (if that is possible) had Syd been able to continue with the band.
One of the great what ifs of rock n roll. I believe had Syd maintained his mind in check they would still release a few more great albums, but I dont know if Roger's Music would have fitted Syd's style of songwriting.
@@klaraklinge2281 technically yes, after all The Tea Set would become Pink Floyd, but the tea set songs are so different from what they would record later that I decided to leave it out so there was more cohesion when listening to the collection.
@@klaraklinge2281 Yes. Nobody would believe that was pink floyd. All the songs in this list I decided to not include: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1965:_Their_First_Recordings

@@enricopallazzorecords8628 Include Remember a day and Set the controls, is the same case. The people think Gilmour created the rytmin of the Set the controls and is the Syd rytmn and the backing vocals.
@@gonzalodavila7427 damn, you are completely correct. Just checking the notes, there is no involvement at all of gilmour on remember a day, should have included that one. But yeah.. remember a day should be in there!
The first I ever heard of Pink Floyd when I was young was Piper... I judt randomly bought the album at a store without knowing them. And they have been my favourite band ever since... Syd's music was absolutely genius. I love it so much.
