Yeah mine always said the same(Queen, Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin) and always included afterwards that the best solo artists are turkish (Erkin koray, Barış Manço and Cem Karaca)
I was 16 years old and had a ticket for this concert, I didn't go because my girlfriend at the time didn't like Pink Floyd and was jealous that I'd meet a girl if I went alone.... I stayed at home! What a stupid twat I was!!!! REGRET!
I've always been a Gilmour fan in Pink Floyd. But I gotta admit that Roger Waters, is a genius in his compositions. His bass playing, is aggressively phenomenal.
Yo soy fan de Roger desde pequeña , y siempre creí que Pink Floyd era Roger Waters 😅 . Y admito que Gilmour es talentoso y nadie puede superar su voz y sus solos de guitarra ❤
@@elmoeditz It's just a good hearted joke about how some say he resembles the easter island heads is all :) I dont mean any harm by it, I love Pink Floyd just figured a good joke is needed
Me too i'm 13 my dad is the one who introduce me this band and many other band like the beatles and zeppelin, and because of that i'm happy because i'm playing a guitar and planning to join a school band
In 1979 my parents sold our home to a British couple. Back then, owners met the new buyers. The buyers were British. I was 9yrs old. The British buyers had a 10yr old son who had a little crush on me. He gave me this album as a gift for letting him live in my home lol. Best day EVER!!! I was glued in between my parents large floor speakers for the better part of the year. If you’re reading this Kevin, you literally changed my life that day. Many thanks ❤
I love the whole song, but happiest days of our lives is definitely second best. My fave is the first part, i just love the effects, the whole atmospheric feel of it!
Masterpieces are being composed every now and then. But to your point...we don’t need no PF copycats...we need originality and as long as there are hungry Artists out there striving to create something unique....more great tunes will continue to be recorded...
simon x Simon can you give us all more of a sense of what you experienced. This must have been amazing. As good as it sounds here, it must have been out of this world to be there.
That was my Dads birthday...he turned 31 years old...less than a month later he pàst away....i was 8 years old,it's hard to remember much about him,but one thing I learned from him, that is ingrained in me is the love of great music...and my dad loved pink floyd
I was a couple of years out of the Army and going to school in Long Beach CA. I was sitting in the quad one afternoon minding my own business and a girl sat down next to me. We talked for a few minutes and then she said she had an extra ticket to go see The Wall. I ended up in a van full of dope-smoking crazies and it was probably the best "Welcome Home" I had ever gotten at that point. Whatever your name was, and wherever you are now, thanks for that night and THEN some!
Same here, I was 7 and my father introduced me to them, this was the first album I've ever heard in my life!now with 35 I still love their music, one of my favourite bands ever!
Actually they put out the audio to this tour years ago just not the video. The set is called "Is there anybody out there? The Wall Live 1980-81. So the audio to this video is great because it is most likely from the official release. Roger owns the rights to the Wall and it is up to him to release the video. He did his version of the Wall anyway which is really great.
Ryan, Roger was dead set against Is There Anybody Out There? The Wall Live's release. He was outvoted 4-1 by David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Rick Wright and manager Steve O'Rourke. Roger called it "bottom of the barrel scraping" until Roger's son said "dad people love live music". Roger was also against the use of Storm Thorgerson for its artwork. Roger oversaw The Final Cut reissue in 2004 and that had no involvement from Gilmour nor Mason. Also Animals was Roger's baby. Plus Roger has stated since 1989 that he was going to put out a live film of the 1980-81 shows but he hated the limitations of VHS but with Blu-Ray and DVDs and 5.1 he has slowly been putting it together. If the concert films were in Gilmour's possession they would have been released ALREADY!
+RU-vidAdmin How strange !? Me too ... ^^ Lucky persons we are to have such teachers ! Mine was a teacher in technology, very nice and competent but most of all : a fan of Pink Floyd .
MyMags8 This was the first ever rock concert in your life?! My god, I remember the first time I saw a professional rock band, very good heavy metal indeed, but very small fry compared to 1980s Floyd, in terms of the shows, I walked about for a week with a thousand yards stare. I can't imagine what seeing The Wall unprepared must've been like. How did you get over it, were you ever impressed again in your youth?
@@cesarcamba1 Yes my first ever rock concert/show! I didn’t “get over it”, still haven’t. The whole experience engraved in my soul. However I’ve been lucky to see many other amazing bands/experiences including Queen, Jean Michel Jarre at the Docklands London & Paris La Defence, Dire Straits, Genesis, Freddie Mercury tribute concert, Mike Oldfield, Elton John, Rolling Stones & many other amazing music artists at smaller venues 😊🤩👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
He was actually rather unhappy, if you listen to the original version of this show not with the overdubbing of "Is Anyone Out There" he deliberatly ruins David's solo during "Mother"
Snowy White is clearly a competent guitarist though. Easily as good as Gilmore. As a player, that is, not to take away from Dave's ability to craft a solo, not many better than he!
Seriously. Everybody is gloating over Roger's bass, David's guitar, but Rick's solo was off the chart. Also do not forget Nick's fantastic drum solo to start off this master piece
Honestly, that solo carries this song for me; not a big fan of The Wall personally (I much prefer it live, The Australian Pink Floyd Cover Band did a stellar performance of it!), so that solo would be my favourite part of the entire live section, so groovy!
+zane 2707 roger wrote and sang most of the floyd songs. people just don't like him because of some of the things he says because he can be controversial lmao, i think he's still amazing, he's my favorite member.
I love Roger for his skilled in song writing and for his haunting dark meaning poetic lyrics but not just for singing and playing bass. So, I will always love Roger even though he sounded bad now.
Daddy's flown across the ocean Leaving just a memory Snapshot in the family album Daddy what else did you leave for me? Daddy, what'd'ja leave behind for me?!? All in all it was just a brick in the wall. All in all it was all just bricks in the wall. When we grew up and went to school There were certain teachers who would Hurt the children any way they could By pouring their derision Upon anything we did And exposing every weakness However carefully hidden by the kids But out in the town it was well known When they got home at night, their fat and Psycopathic wives would thrash them Within inches of their lives We don't need no education We dont need no thought control No dark sarcasm in the classroom Teachers leave them kids alone Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone! All in all it's just another brick in the wall. All in all you're just another brick in the wall. We don't need no education We dont need no thought control No dark sarcasm in the classroom Teachers leave them kids alone Hey! Teachers! Leave us kids alone! All in all it's just another brick in the wall. All in all you're just another brick in the wall.
I was 5 years old when my dad introduce me to Pink Floyd. Today i am 30y old men and i can say that is the best heritage possible. Best band of history !!
Nick Mason's eyes are so lit at 7:16 it makes me high just looking at him. He is totally in his groove banging on those drums. Lost in heavenly bliss that they are pumping out with ease.
My english teacher had us go through The Wall instead of doing a unit on poetry, this is my second favorite set of songs from the album next to Comfortably Numb of course.
Ben Harrison Pete townshend said he heard Pink Floyd play using quadraphonics and it inspired him, so he thought of creating an album using quadraphonic which became the album quardophenia. He later incorporated that sound into The Who’s live playing as well
Actually it was Emerson Lake and Palmer that started it, as with many more technical sound innovations, who already used it since 1973. But it is awesome that Pink Floyd used it too!
@@kaioocarvalho no it wasn’t it was Roger and Pink Floyd. Yes was pretty awful until Trevor Rabin joined the band then they had a song writer and a brilliant Lead guitarist
Yes the band was not that great till Trevor Rabin joined the band. They had their first no. 1 single in America/Owner of a Lonely Heart written by Trevor Rabin.
I worked on a Floyd show in Milwaukee. It was late 80's, early 90's . Post Waters, stage had two levels, lower level could not be seen by the audience, had back up musos and vocalists. I stood right next to the mix position, FOH, very elaborate. 2 Midas consoles, two 16 track tape machines, this was before Profools, one guy working the live sound mix, another guy working sound effects mix, another guy taking care of the tape machines. I had the best seat! Oh, and pre show, there was an extremely long line for the female bathroom and one young gal was about thirty in line and she gave up, yelling "I can't take this!" and she just stood there and peed in her Levi's!
Richard ter Veen that's the thing about David Gilmoure. His solos are based on substance. And most of them, despite their relative ease, are nothing short of genius. I would take a Gilmoure solo over anybody shredding the same three or four notes over and over as fast as they can...
David Gilmore is just the best, all those people who came after him in Roger Waters live shows, falls short short short, both as vocalist and also as guitarist. It might be true that Roger is the genius of Pink Floyd, but he simply couldn't have asked for a better guitarist or vocalist than Gilmore! Roger's concepts and lyrics, the moods and atmospheres he sets are very intriguing, it's the essence of Pink Floyd, but without Gilmore's guitar arrangements, and his sweet voice, it's just not Pink Floyd. Imagine Dire Straits without Mark Knopfler playing the guitar and singing? It would not be Dire Straits, same thing goes for Pink Floyd without Gilmore. Even though i have always been mostly on Roger Waters side, i give credit where credit is due, and Roger Waters solo work becomes too much 'story-telling' he needs David Gilmore, to tilt the scales, so we get the perfect balance between Davids music and Rogers 'story-telling' The best of the best, simply. *Edit* IT'S 'GILMOUR'! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
My dad showed me Pink Floyd when I was young, was hooked on this shit since. It was on cassette also! I'm only 28 and he showed me a lot in the way of music. We need bands that dedicate themselves to these sounds.
I can never understand why they decided to leave out the screech just before the first chorus in Part 2. Roger still does that in his concerts today. It's such an awesome part of the song. Why, Roger, WHY? Give us our screeeeech! "AAAAAAAAAH!! We don't need no education...."
+Heather L. Because all of the soundeffects back then were in 8 track tapes, which were pretty hard to alighn with the live music. In the first couple of shows they couldn even get the children chorous playing
+Heather L. Dear RU-vid, How come when I come here to see a response that was posted to my question, all I see is my own comment and my own replies? +Jason0938, I received notification of your reply, and thank you for that, but for whatever reason, I can't find it here on the video page. Sorting by "recent" or "top comments" didn't help. (And yes, I realize RU-vid isn't going to read my question.) I can't even find any of the replies made to me by going through and reading ALL of the comments on this page.
Only 17.. wish I had the chance to go back in time and be at a concert of theirs in the 70's. Best classic rock you'll ever find, hands down, maybe best group ever just because of their sounds and lyrics.
@@Blue-cw3gq sim, ele é o único que consegue tocar desse jeito. Os solos são únicos, consegue manter a nota lindamente, tem um feeling que poucos conseguem
I don't know what this is...it ain't the Wall Live I know that -headphones on stage? Ha!!!!...maybe video rehearsals....They only did the real deal twice in LA at Sports Arena - if you didn't see it here or in NY then you all missed it period forever as far as USA - never again played LIve. and this AIN'T Sports Arena. I had backstage parking because I was a bigshot - my '68 Plymouth Valiant right there in front of the limos - memories to the nthº
Its amazing to think what Pink Floyd managed to accomplish. They had a number one hit song in the pop charts, whilst being the greatest Prog rock band of all time. Not many bands could pull off that kind of cross over without selling out
at this time they for the most part couldn't stand each other. Especially Roger.. yet they still kicked ass live. bands dont have to like eachother to kick ass. awesome. at a time when hair-metal was coming in and disco was still alive they did their think and did it better than everyone else.
Waters vocals during happiest days of our lives, talking as The teacher and during the trial are nuts. First time hearing it was nuts, it's still nuts today. Waters sounds so deranged, it's really a good contrast to David's vocals.
No, he has the tambourine in his left hand but his right hand and his feet are still working. The surrogate drummer is drumming too. Also did you notice that at 6:30 the bass is playing without Roger playing it? The surrogate bassist was helping too
+Jonatan Olsén Earls Court 1980 for Pink Floyd fans is the most rarest concert on this planet, we have NO high quality videos of this. Just good audio. Edit 11/12/15: Also, wanna know a cool fact? Roger caused this concert to look like shit on camera, Pink Floyd also almost went bankrupt because of this concert.
+KILLER115X935 roger will not release the master. He put on a great show when I seen him a few years back but in my opinion he was a prick back then and a prick now. He's getting old and wants us to remember him in a positive light now. That's why he acts so different now. There were rowdy people at the show I saw and he never stopped the show to curse them like he did in the 70s. Oh no he's a good guy now. BULLSHIT he's a phony now. That's just my opinion......
You know when a song and a band are pure genius when generation after generation love these guys. My grandson Ethen, who just turned seventeen can recite every song and know more about them then I do. My only regret is that he couldnt see them lve. Rock on boys.
