Any Colour You Like / Video taken from Set The Control For The Heart Of The Sun and Careful With That Axe, Eugene at Brighton Live at Brighton Dome, 29-06-1972
I feel like this is the climax of the album, with Brain Damage and Eclipse being a nice ending. It’s always an amazing experience to go from Us and Them to Any Colour You Like.
I don't know..I was way up in back for Dark Side, and on a blanket about mid-center field for Animals. 2 of the best shows I've ever seen! Best sound team in the biz!
You really don't want to be in the first row. Too much to see and hear. You want to be in the 40 - 50 rows. Which we ( my girlfriend then wife ) were 5 times going back to 1975 thru 1994. Life changing experiences. Yes, my wife and I are still together.
@@markcoluzzi5754 I was up in the back for Dark Side, and it was the sound and the visuals all around, as you say. Plus, that was first time being high at a concert..I just sat down and 'breathed in the air'. 😉 The other was Animals/Wish, with Money as an encore..outdoors at a baseball stadium..perfectly cool, cloudy day
@@justjeph6927 So you know the ' feeling ’. Every time we saw them was outdoor stadiums at nite and beautiful weather. The quad sound in those huge stadiums was just incredible. Shine on my friend.......
@@markcoluzzi5754 The best sound team in the business..no unintended echo. O, and we had Cal Worthington 'wrestling' tigers and sht..and the pig, of course. Shinin' on til I can't😎
I had this taxi ride from one of Moscow's airports into the city about 1999 past lots of half completed office and apartment blocks many needing to be restarted. The driver explained that they were being built with no money. All the contractors would apply their trades to the construction and would be paid with a share of the apartments when finished. It was all done on trust. On the CD player: Pink Floyd
Nick Mason is sadly one of the most underrated drummers ever. He's just an incredible player and a very musical drummer. His fills are absolutely tasteful.
I saw this a few months later at Winterland Ballroom in San Fransisco. Was expecting to hear Obscured by Clouds tracks, instead we got 45 minutes of all new music.
This is by far the best version of Any Colour You Like I've heard. It has such a lovely blues groove to it. This might be the period when Pink Floyd were at their best, when they dared to experiment and allowed themselves to let loose. I once heard someone describe Led Zeppelin as psychedelic blues, and as much as I love Led Zep, I think that description fits the Floyds even better.
I saw Pink Floyd twice ... in '70 and '72. They were the two best concerts I've ever seen. They were masters at involving the audience emotionally and their sonic presence was unequaled.
@@senianns9522very cool as I always wondered how much more the BRITS saw on the TELE back then....it would been cool with Floyd on TV & I'm sure my mom woulda made me turn it down....I like the RARE LIVE FLOYD STUFF REALLY WELL .
dark side of the moon is such a peak, such an apex, like I think its one of the most flawless albums of all time, just every moment of it so precise and perfect artistry. a magnum opus, an immaculate masterpiece
"...just every moment of it so precise and perfect artistry....". "Dark Side" certainly is that. Especially so when you realise that Claire Torry - who was called in to sing "The Great Gig In The Sky" totally improvised the whole performance ! Yes that's right - she was told to just do whatever came to her as she went along ! The result could / should have been chaotic, but is actually a melodious tune that has a structure to it ! Quite astonishing when you think on it.
Even the mistake at the very very end, where you can hear the sounds of another song recording, adds to the experience. It makes the whole thing feel surreal, like it could have been a dream...
@@badbeardbill9956 Hey man, this is really interesting, I noticed that track at the end but I always thought it was an intentional little thing they decided to add! Whether it was a mistake or intentional, it adds to what is an amazing experience of an album
Any colour you like is just as good as any other song in DSOTM. Any colour you like isn't a throwaway track in this album. It's a throwback for all of us, lucky listeners, to all the colourful memories of the past. Any colour you like is all your emotions mixed. Any colour you like is David's Guitar, Richard's keyboard, Nick's Drums and Roger's Bass. Any colour you like gives you the opportunity to select any colour you like and travel through it.
I can't understand why Pink Floyd didn't release the full concert on CD. It must be one of the very few concerts recorded professionally during the 70's.
Joan G muy de acuerdo contigo, de las mejores metáforas que he leído, pero desde mi punto de vista todos son piezas claves en el sonido de esta maravilla, no podría imaginarme a Pink Floyd sin alguno de estos 4 genios...
I'm willing to bet this band has nonstop been played somewhere around the world at all times since it came out, it's being played somewhere right now and at this moment I'm playing it
Yeah most of the footage is actually them playing Careful With That Axe Eugene at the same gig Actually the OP says that up top - lol. The other track the footage is from is Set The Controls ....
3:50 For those who wonder when Nick plays his double bass drums, that's it right there. He was a totally different drummer live than in the studio. He was a wild man drummer and not as reserved as many people believe.
Yes! I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks the same. Back in the early days, his live drumming was fantastic. His studio drumming doesn’t do justice as to how good of a drummer he is
We were having a great night, but weren't at the front during that part of the gig. They played 'Eclipse' for the first time, and opened the night with everyone sat in the Dome's velvet seats. I was at the front for the second part, when they came back after an intermission and played songs off Meddle, the 'Ummagumma' live tracks and Atom Heart Mother.
50 years after I bought Dark side of the Moon, I just heard this live track for the very first time and I am completely blown away at the sinuous quality of it all. Wow!
you know they gotta have this entire show filmed. I wish they would release these shows one day. Plus this is one the pre-release "Eclipse" 1972 shows. Amazing
I highly doubt that, they were not a huge commercial success at that point so I doubt they were paying to have concerts filmed professionally. This was before Dark Side was released, if anything they might have some of the 1973/1974 shows filmed but I'm pretty sure I heard them say in interviews that they did not at all.
Some of this clips are part of Careful With That Axe Eugene footage, just edited together with this bootleg recording. The film looks very clear in definition so I guess it received treatment
The sound from the poorly shot concerts is garbage. There was a good reason why they were never released. Also set the controls and careful with that axe was probably recorded like 20 times no joke. It gets kinda old.
Wow I couldn't agree more you very rarely see videos around this time and Pink Floyd's career I would love to have this whole show on DVD or VHS I'm going to be looking real hard for it now what a great band they were we seen Pink Floyd and 1977 Soldiers Field animals tour they played by themselves what a fantastic day that was
@@alanjamesh.zamorano1677 The question is why there wasn't more released from this Brighton show... some bits and pieces can be seen in the "Classic Albums" documentary. Also the sound is no bootleg, it was officially released on the Immersion box set, but again, only a few tracks...
You are quite right. It's besides this lack of proximity (intimacy) with the public, during the tours in huge stadiums, which inspired Roger Waters, the idea for the album (The Wall).
This whole song has the perfect build, climax and resolve. Takes lots of talent for the whole band to be on their shit and sound so together like this.
40 magic fingers, four ingenious minds. What a super-group, no one else can touch them, individually they are outstanding together they're earth-shaking.
Usually lyrics are expressed in words, but with Pink Floyd they are also expressed through music, without the need for lyrics. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, I say that a David Gilmour guitar chord, or Richard Wright’s keyboard equals a thousand words, you just have to close your eyes and open your ears to read them. In (Any Color You Like) the thought behind this song expresses the illusion that man has the power to choose. At least that's what Roger Waters said.
Hey man I used to do mushrooms and acid, I’ve listened to dark side on acid. just wanna say God loves you man he changed my life a year ago, psychedelic experiences feel really real but I promise Jesus is the real deal, the other stuff is only a counterfeit of the true freedom you have in Gods love. Bless you man
Heard/saw this live in quad, in a stadium, at nite outdoors with 78 thousand other people. But I know to this day, 45 years later that they were playing it just for me. Talk about hearing the soundtrack of your life for the very first time. Absolutely stunning !!!
That guitar tone 👌🏻😤, that beat 🥵🤯, that bass line 😈🤤,that ambient sound of the keyboard 🙏🏻😏. One of the best songs from one of the best bands 🐖. They are unmatched!
This is masterpiece. It's as valuable as DaVinci art. You know, they talk about depth of Mona Lisa smile. Same thing is here. I wish i have a son someday and i'll turn this tune on and i'll keep him in my hands and we will listen to this song. It's very male music, i think. Its something from father to son. Unbelievable...just can't believe in that sound, it is miracle...
Terrific version of one of my personal fave PF songs. Dark Side is to modern music what War and Peace is to the novel, or what The Godfather is to movies, or what Apollo 11 is to transportation, etc., etc.
This and Breathe are the two most listened to tracks on DSOTM to me! I love both. Breathe shows off Dave's Jedson steel lap guitars and this REALLY shows off Rick Wright..who is terribly missed! I'm privileged to have been able to have seen him play 4 times - flawlessly!
I play in a Pink Floyd cover band. In every show we play Dark Side cover to cover. This is one of the most fun tunes to play live. It’s a jam based in two main chords but we bring out more of the funk in this. I get the wah pedal going and really drive the energy.
@3:20 Gilmour was trying to lead the band back into the head but instead of hitting the crash cymbals going back into a straight beat Mason kept playing those drum rolls
isanybodyhome true but I think he was talking about the auditory cues not visual. It went from quiet chilled jam and dave turned his volume up to signal to the band that he wants to amp it up before the end but nick mason doesn’t initially take the bait
I’ve been taking Fungi, Lysergic, Mescaline and DMT induced journeys for over 30 years. Just to stay even keel. These guys have been riding shotgun with me every single time.
