Yup, I listened to the album version and some of the other live versions. This one (Pulse) might be the best one.

Im 66 and I love these vids too. To see these babies realizing what music FEELS like for the first time is precious I am happy for them. Now throw in some Cat Stevens and some Moody Blues .

I can't imagine how cool it would have been to have seen the Jesus looking Gilmour play. It's a travesty he's not been knighted yet.

@@FLASHAHOLIC_TV Agree 1000% I enjoy a shredder as much as the next guy but Gilmour has a quality that can't be taught or practiced and that is heart, soul, and emotion. Either you have it or you don't and he has them all in spades. That being said, Gilmour's technique is nothing to sneeze at. Everything about it from the way he strikes notes, to his bends, vibrato and note selection is impeccable. His use of the whammy bar is so unique, especially when he combines it with string bends and manual vibrato. Very unique. You just have to hear a couple of notes and you know it's him. I feel very fortunate to have seen the original line up back in the day and carry that as a treasured memory. The first time I saw them was April of '75 at the Nassau Coliseum in NY. It was a few months before Wish You Were Here was released. They opened the show with "One Of These Days from their Meddle album. After the song, they asked if we could indulge them as they tried out material from their upcoming album. Quite proper and very British. I loved their cordiality as they asked permission. Of course! Yes, we would love to hear it! They then played the entire Wish You Were Here album in sequence. Mind blown. They took an intermission and returned to play the entire Dark Side Of The Moon album in sequence. Mind obliterated. They returned for an encore with "Echoes" also from the Meddle album. A 45 minute version that totally killed. At the time, it was just the four of them, two female back up singers that would appear when required as well as a guest sax player. It sounded just like the albums. They had a giant quadrophonic sound system that shot sounds all around us like the lunatic running through the halls of the hospital, Gilmour's guitar during Echoes sounded like pterodactyls were circling the Coliseum. The jet crashing on the stage, flashpans, flares, giant circular projection screen, massive fog, flames, etc. In 1975, most of this was new. It blew me away. Here's the crazy part. I had 8th row floor seats and they cost me $7.50 (US). Times have changed. I'm glad that you are digging Floyd. When people who are new to Floyd ask me what genre are they? I just tell them Pink Floyd is a genre unto themselves. There is no band like Floyd just the occasional imitator IMHO. :) BTW, I agree with you one the Knighting. I think he might have been warded the MBE but a knighthood is definitely very much in order.

@@RCullis47 It always strikes me as funny when Syd is listed way above Dave in the most influential guitarist lists. Dave taught Syd every trick going in class during break times!

@@FLASHAHOLIC_TV Once again, totally agree. Not to say that Syd doesn't have his place in music history. He did form the first version of Floyd and who knows if the other four would have gotten together and turned Floyd into what they became but Syd's version to me went between quaint little pop dittys to totally experimental musical sojourns that went over many people's heads unless they were tripping in a club to the full lighting extravaganza. As a lyricist, Syd was not extremely deep and as a songwriter, His pop tunes were clever but... The experimental part of the spectrum, I think helped plant the seed of being fearless. As you know towards the end of Syd's term where his brain was fried and Gilmour was on board for nights if Syd was too out of it and just stared at the audience, he could save the show until finally, they just didn't pick Syd up any more for gigs because he was just gone and Gilmour officially replaced him. They experimented quite a bit to varying degrees of commercial success as they searched for their post Syd voice. By Meddle, they finally clicked on a direction that gave them great commercial success while keeping their integrity. Gilmour's talent on the guitar, even in the earliest of days, as you rightly pointed out, exceeded Syd's abilities and sensibilities IMHO. Waters' lyrics are among the finest ever put to paper (I'm also a big fan of Fish, Marillion's original vocalist's lyrics). Those two together along with the extremely underrated contributions by the late Rick Wright and even Nick Mason, created the Pink Floyd that will forever be remembered by their absolute musical craftsmanship. I'm an old fart that will be turning 60 in August and I find it fulfilling and interesting to talk music with someone from your generation. You are an old soul with musical wisdom that belies your years. I think if we came up at the same time, I would have hung out with you as we compared notes whenever new vinyl was released. Cheers!

@@RCullis47 I have 3 guitar heroes, and I've seen two live. Hackett and Latimer. I tried seeing Dave during his On an Island Tour but it sold out in seconds. I didn't try for his last tour 😔. Maybe it's better to keep a fantasy just that.

I love how he diverged from the studio solo, it's really what makes it so great in fact.

@@rhwinner there was quote somewhere I've read where Gilmour was asked why he didn't play solos exactly like the records and he said that would be boring, if you want to hear that you have the recording.

I think this one in particular is also one of the longer guitar solos that he's done for this song - The live versions vary massively from about 8 mins long for the whole song to nearly 11 mins in total for this one :)

FLASHAHOLICS it’s always going to be my favorite Floyd song. Especially when paired with the Pompeii film clip.

I don't know if you have but I can definitely see where they're coming from with that one. Granted, I've only heard a handful of them so far but wow has this set the bar high!

I haven't, this was the first live performance I've watched. I'm excited to now though since I know what they're capable of. Although, I'll need to listen to Echoes first probably.

Good idea...the live show at Pompeii is about the polar opposite of the pulse show as far as stage setup goes; they are just as brilliant...also, apparently it was the first live performance done @ the ancient amphitheater since 79 AD when Pompeii was a thriving city. I believe it was dedicated to those people.

@@Yetiness the Live at Pompeii performance was broadcast and recorded as an event, it wasn't what you picture as a typical concert. Echoes is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs, and the Pompeii live version is the definitive experience - even with the somewhat oddly mixed sound levels.

Just in case you didn't know which I am sure you are aware, the Remember That Night version of Echoes has to be one of the best imo.

I suggest do the studio then live in Pompeii and Gdańsk

Puro It was an experience like no other, A band that could mesmerise the audience and give great entertainment that mere words sometimes can’t do it justice, I was there about mid audience and this wall of sound just hit you but not in a bad way it enveloped you, It was a visual feast too with lights and lasers the huge round screen showing images and video from some of their songs and some (at that time) new imagery as well, You got your money’s worth and more as David Gilmore made an assault on your senses with his guitar and drew you in further into the music I was watching perfection in action not just by him but the whole band, It was a long time ago now but I’ve yet to see and experience better and I doubt if I ever will, The Atmosphere was fantastic too a truly shared emotional and physical experience.

This review is the best that I've come across to be honest for this performance - as you say, absolutely genuine. No surprise therefore that it's had 32,000 views so far!

Eskay1206 It’s not an opera, it’s a concept album. The earliest concept albums i have ever heard of were in the 1940’s. by jazz artists like Frank Sinatra.

@Alf Merck - 100% agree. I believe even Gilmour wasn’t at all happy with it which is why he asked this version to be cut down which I personally think was the right thing to do. That extra minute in the guitar solo wasn’t good.
