Pink Floyd is the Greatest live performing band in music history. They build their shows to offer a completely visceral experience. They put more production into one song than most bands put into an entire concert. Not just musical but visual. A complete experience for any one watching the show

People have asked over the years what is that giant ball of light that drifts in during the solo. For many of us who were there, it was God himself rolling in for a closer look at what was creating this sound that had undoubtedly found its way to the heavens. And yes, Roger Waters may have written the lyrics, but Gilmour's guitar adds an emotional lyric far more profound that bypasses the brain and goes straight to the soul. Make no mistake, his guitar is truly the band's second lyricist.

At Earls Court it was fixed to the roof and encased in a black curtain above the mixing desk until the reveal. For the Wembley and Docklands Arena it was on a jib at the back of the stage and opened like a flower once the circular screen was lowered. And most important of all about these concerts, no ****ing mobile phones in the audience recording it all.
@flubblert
@flubblert 3 года назад
at Soldier Field it sat just behind sound/light control center in the middle of the field and rose up at the appropriate time. I don't recall it traveling. I do remember it being blinding. Would have killed to have been able to bring today's phones into a concert back in the day. No recording devices of any kind were allowed into concert venues back in those days and everyone was searched thoroughly at the gate to make sure none was snuck in. Who knew one day they'd have miniature cameras that could fit in the palm of your hand and capture action far better than any of the big bulky video cams of the era. I would have quite the collection.

@@flubblert agree about how bright it was and the beams coming out of it once it opened. None of the videos have been able to capture that.

It’s crazy how universal this is. My dad loved Pink Floyd. I’ll never forget listening to it with him when I was a teen in the 90s. I miss him.

It was the most epic moment in my music live. They are the gratest band of all times, for me too. I have grown listen they music. They music have the greatest influence in my mood, every day.

I was there in Oslo in 94. THAT moment when THAT dico ball appears out of nowhere almost right above me during THAT solo. Not an out of body experience, more like an out of the universe experience. And in the intro of "Sorrow", the bass was so deep it felt like the concerete floor melted. This song was really written to Gilmour's solo album "About Face", but he couldn't finish any lyrics in time. So producer Bob Esrin managed to pursuade Roger Waters to include it on "The Wall" and write some lyrics. So glad all those things happened. Comfortably Numb is the only song of "The Wall" that will ever make it onto my playlist. But I totaly love the movie and the storyline. Watching that movie, is like watching me from age 5 to age 35. You have to see it, only get your hands on all anti depressant pills you can get. Depressive.

First off I kind of want to apologize for not recommending this to you because for some reason I thought you had already redacted to this performance. I have seen many reaction videos to this performance and your reaction quite honestly is one of my highest respected 👌. I was grateful how you listened with headphones, didn't interrupt the guitar solo and how you paid attention to all the details. I have watched this many times and I still get goosebumps. RIP to Richard on the keyboard. It has been said that David Gilmore plugs the guitar into his soul. I really truly feel the lyrics. Thanks. This made my day!

David Gilmour is one of the best ever playing the guitar. Though what he does is more than playing. You need to listen to Echoes, I prefer Live in Gdansk because it is the last time Gilmour and Rick Wright performed it (it is the culmination of decades of music and perfecting the song) . Echoes (live at pompeii: parts one and two) is often considered their best version and needs to be experienced as well. Be sure to do a quick read up on Live at Pompeii (1970s) and I'd recommend a quick trip through the history of the band through wikipedia or something.

I was there the night this was recorded. I cant put into words how it was, it wasn't a concert or a gig it was a journey. The music hits your soul and you actually feel the guitar solo, it's like it passes your ears and hits your soul and takes it away, changes it and brings it back. To be totally honest, I cant really explain what it was like, but I know I will never get that experience ever again. It is so good that you understand the music and what it means. I would suggest you watch the film The Wall to get and even better understanding. I would love to see you react to that.

I saw this concert in Lisbon in 22 of July 1994. I was a teenager, but they already are my favorite band. Aliens invaded Lisbon that night, but they come in peace 😃😃😃, PS: they give a second concert the day after in Saturday.

Two reccomendations for Pink Floyd: "Dogs" (Of course studio only, with lyrics that one is good) and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts I - V and then Parts VI - IX . Studio only.....all three of these are long tracks eg Dogs is 17 minutes. You might ask how can a song last for 17 minutes and stay interesting. Well, Pink Floyd did it. If you think Comfortably Numb put you into a zone, well Dogs will do it and then some. Same for Shine on you Crazy Diamond. You have to, at some point either react to these or listen to them for yourself.

if you think that was transcending, you should react to the live at Gdansk version of Echoes. everyone does the 1971 live at Pompeii version and that one is interesting, as it shows you them in their younger years. there's quite a lot of difference between the 2 versions. the Gdansk version is more mature and polished, imo. i think that Pink Floyd compose songs in much the way as classical composers think. Echoes illustrates that more than most of them. it is 25 minutes long, though. the 1971 version comes in 2 parts, but you can split the Gdansk version, the same way

You get it brother,...you get Pink Floyd! They really are not like any other band I've ever seen, and I've seen a few. I've been a huge Pink Floyd fan since the release of their 6th album, "Meddle" in 1971, I was 15 years old. I've also seen them twice, one of those times was The Wall concert in 1980 at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale NY Long Island, what an incredible Show that was! It's worth Googling to see just how massive this Show was, the logistics alone were incredible. And of course you're right about David Gilmour, I like you also play guitar, and there are a handful of guitarists that I highly respect. None more than David Gilmour, there is just something very special about David Gilmour's playing. David Gilmour is not a flashy guitarist, he doesn't wear crazy clothes onstage, jeans and a tee shirt is about it. He doesn't run around the stage, jumping up and down screaming, he just plays his Stratocaster in a way that's is unparalleled imo. Gilmour's guitar says more with a single note, or a pause, or a bend, or a trill,... than other guitarist's say playing a bajillion notes a second. The emotion and feel in his playing is unequaled imo. He is a Master guitarist that takes the pentatonic and mixolydian scale to another level. Take for example this version of comfortably Numb, the second solo is really incased in the pentatonic scale, but his talent makes it sound sooo good. Sorry for the long comment.

I was there,2nd night,when the circle seating collapsed,and it was the 4th time i saw them,the previous one was the Wall Tour in 1980 at the same venue (earls court,now sadly gone) Let me tell you,that night was the best concert i have ever been to,and i've been to many hundreds of shows,including hendrix and the who at isle of wight 1970,led zep,sabbath,stones etc etc,all great but NONE had the emotion that gilmour got from that guitar. Astonishing event.

Ambrosia.... the nectar like food of the Gods themselves! Its like warm melted dripping honey for your very soul. I think part of what makes David Gilmours playin give you that feeling, is he uses quite alot of 2, 3, 4, and even some 5 semi-tone bends instead of fretting a higher note. Personally I think that allows your subconscious to track the note as its changing rather than the more abrupt change from a fretted note? Maybe someone who actually knows could correct me😊

There are many good guitarists. But there are only a few guitarists who do not play with their hands but with their hearts. Jimmy Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Dave Gilmour. The guitar is their nature and they have one body and one soul with it. You can learn this guitar solo perfectly technically (it's not such a problem again) but never - NEVER - will anyone play it like Mr. David Gilmour ... I love him for it.
