@@kristofferanensen7983 You're probably right. But the genius thing about Pink Floyd is that everyone can associate it with something else but the feelings remain the same. No other band has accompanied me my entire (57 year old) life. And btw thanks for this beautiful one Answer
Happy 50th Anniversary to all us Pink Floyd fans. My first time hearing Dark Side Of The Moon was in my parents basement on their stereo with my best bud and a wine skin plus 3 fat ones in 1973. If you don't believe in the divine your not listening. 🙏 🍁
Around 6:53 in your video you say: "I don't know how to explain it, it's a powerful piece, just leaves you with your imagination". This song became one of the most important of this album, and yet originally, this "instrumental" track was only intended to fill the gap at the end side A on the album. What a wonderful way to fill an empty space. In Montreal, the three singers received a standing ovation of more than three minutes at the end of this song.
You have to love the little smile that Claudia does when she finishes. Resignation and acceptance, yes nailed that one. Just an overall classic performance by all 3 ladies.
You get it exactly. It is so emotionally powerful. One of Rick's greatest compositions. My sister died unexpectedly a couple of weeks ago. This video is the first time I've dared to listen to Great Gig since then. I probably shouldn't have chosen to do so during a break at work - I had to shut my door until I could stop crying. But, it's important to feel these emotions and let them out. In the end, we must all go to our own Great Gig in the Sky. I miss you, my sister.
Your reaction pretty much sums up my reaction every time I hear this song and my reaction hasn't changed in 50 years!! The way these women express this song through their talent. Unreal!! RIP Claudia (the last singer)
I love this band, been a diehard fan since back in the '70s. The original release of this song with Clare Torry doing the vocals will always be my favorite, but these three ladies did a fabulous interpretation and should be applauded long and loud. Thank you, ladies, and thank you, Sarah. Great reaction.
I grew up in a magical time, I'm 64 and being a child with a Transistor hand held Radio in 2nd and 3rd Grade I can still remember where I was when I heard the Rolling Stones for the first time. As I listen to this I feel as if I'm traveling back in time. Thank You for sharing!
Even though this song is about coming to terms with your own death, in your last moments, it somehow also feels like a warm blanket. Others have probably already said that nothing can touch the original studio version with Clare Torey, but I personally like this version with three different vocalists, each representing different stages of grief, pain, and finally acceptance.
I’ve saw several people die and they were all the same. The body takes its last gasps to hold on to life then peace at the end. This performance captures this perfectly.
After 50 years, and 1000+ times listening to Dark Side Of The Moon, and this song in particular, there is no loss of Potency, if you just let yourself be in the moment, and put "life" aside.
😥dedicated to my dear young friend, whose journey ended far too soon. It's all behind her now, no more suffering, no more stages of grieving. Fly high CW, watch over us as we watched over you. 😇😥🌹
@@sunnystormy4973 Condolences. My mom passed away when I was 10 weeks old, and my Dad didn't want me. I imagine it was worse for you because you knew her, I'm sorry for that. Either way, it leaves a mark, changes us. Take care 😇✌️🕊️
Is there a more iconic song by Pink Floyd than this? Back in the day it was one of my dreams to see them live, then after seeing my first concert it was my dream to immediately see them again. IMO they were the best live show ever bar none. thx Sarah.
Love the way each woman got to showcase their individual talent! Quite dramatic and still as moving as when I first heard Clare Torry on the DSotM album = TEARS IN MY EYES still after all this time and countless hearings of the song!
The beautiful thing about Floyd is... once it touches you, it will always get that response from your emotions. Really amazing on so many levels because PF helps you learn more about yourself as you paint the musical images in your own head.
So powerful! Those woman’s voice’s, just incredible! I have seen many classic rock bands live from the 70’s and 80’s, my regret, not ever seeing Pink Floyd, eagles, Rush or Dio! Simple!😉👍
In its wisdom and style, this Pink Floyd song is also a masterpiece. Let the voices work so intensely, simply beautiful and touching; precisely because there is no text.
Pink Floyd is the piller to the modern ,classical, hard rock and many other styles of music. And to think someone else will come along and aces them , well after 50 plus years has not happened and I don't see that it could. Thanks for the wonderful reaction.
I was with my mum in the last months of her life right to her very end, after battling luekemia for quite some time. This song personifies the stages she went through. Especially the last 24 hours. That was 12 years ago now and it still makes me cry and think about my mums personal struggle, acceptance and then when she let go. Incredible vocals, incredible song.
I have what is known as a progressive terminal illness and, as you can imagine, I think about the end stage from time to time. This song, familiar from my younger days, has helped ever so much. I feel the person who wrote this must have witnessed this stage of life.
The other possibility here is that what we hear is our grandmothers communicating the joy of living. I really respect and appreciate the extent to which you take many songs so personally, Sarah, and share that with us.
Hi Sarah, I believe it last you to do one of the last albums from Pink Floyd: The Division bell. It is a worthy album. Or if you want only to do songs do High Hopes, from that same album.
The studio version on "Dark Side Of The Moon" blew me away the day I first heard it, on release of the vinyl, & it still does. This is as good a version Live, as I have ever heard.
Sarah - I love how emotional you get listening to Pink Floyd and especially David Gilmour. Here are a couple others for you to consider reacting to: High Hopes and Sorrow. Both versions on the David Gilmour Live at Pompei are great choices.
The three singers was only told to sing the emotions that they would feel if they were going through the five steps of death starting with denial and working down to accept it. It was all done in one take and all had ad libed by the singers.
Pink Floyd.....1994...Earls Court ...I was there.......this version is second only to the original with Clare Torry doing the vocals in one take. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.
As if this piece wasn't emotional enough, there is the heart breaking knowledge that the first of the singers for this performance, Sam Brown, is no longer able to sing like this. She had produced a number of solo albums in her career but then suffered damage to her vocal chords some years back now, but still remains a positive person and hopes that maybe one day it may improve. She has tried to find ways around this with her latest album, by fully utilising current studio technology to pitch correct her damaged vocals, the technique is widely employed throughout contemporary music, but the majority of artists would not be so honest about using it.
Beautiful reaction ! - Great Gig In The Sky - is one of the those songs that singers want to do. The original was done by the great Clare Torry. She set the standard and didn't know what they wanted. The band didn't do much talking and All they gave her for direction was to portray death & horror. After 2 takes she left the studio not knowing that they loved what she had done.
The original is still the best. No one gives full force to these lyrics like Claire Torry, who was just told to improv them from nowhere. Don't get me wrong, these three ladies did a great job, but nothing beats the original in my mind. Great video and great reaction!
did you get around to listening to the album version again ?... im biased but i liked it first and for sooo long it was the only version gods know when i cover a song i put my mark on it somewhere but the version here still feels "wrong " lol
