Check out Rodrigo y Gabriela's rendition of "Echoes" here!: • Rodrigo y Gabriela - E... The first part of this video is not on my channel. I do not own this video.
Cloudless every day you fall upon my waking eyes Inviting and inciting me to rise And through the window in the wall Come streaming in on sunlight wings A million bright ambassadors of morning And no one sings me lullabies And no one makes me close my eyes So I throw the windows wide And call to you across the sky.
+Sir Benjamin Prevosa that depends on which version you're quoting. At 5:45, you can see Dave's lips forming the V sound first, trying to say "inviting and inciting". So really, both can be correct; maybe Richard screwed up instead
Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves The echo of a distant tide Comes willowing across the sand And everything is green and submarine And no one showed us to the land And no one knows the wheres or whys But something stirs and something tries And starts to climb towards the light Strangers passing in the street By chance two separate glances meet And I am you and what I see is me And do I take you by the hand And lead you through the land And help me understand the best I can And no one calls us to move on And no one forces down our eyes No one speaks And no one tries No one flies around the sun Cloudless every day you fall upon my waking eyes Inviting and inciting me to rise And through the window in the wall Come streaming in on sunlight wings A million bright ambassadors of morning And no one sings me lullabies And no one makes me close my eyes So I throw the windows wide And call to you across the sky.
MUCH Agreed my friend :) - Ever Since the FIRST time I sat there and watched the Pompeii Live Movie for the 1st time, Stoned off of my ASS a Youngin', it just SOO Deeply Struck me as a Masterful piece of Musical writing Man... And it STILL gives me chills, To THIS Day Dude :) AMAZING and Timeless Music, for Sure!! And yea, I DID hear about that whole David Gilmour returning there for an Anniversary Live show or something like that - That'd be absolutely INCREDIBLE to watch!! i wonder if it's JUST him as a Solo Artist, or with any other Floyd Members, or what... 'Cus I SEEERIOUSLY DOUBT that Gilmour and Waters would be playing together there - Cus they pretty much just hate Eachothers guts man... Pretty much cus Roger Waters is just Kind of a Dick - At least in MY Opinion Anyhoo.. Lol
Mitchell Moore Indeed. I feel just the same way towards echoes,a timeless masterpiece. and as for Gilmour and waters, they severed the long-termed hostility between them, but yes, waters still considers himself officially departed from Pink Floyd ever since 83. but they are on good terms with each other today. same thing with waters and nick & rich :)
When I would road trip with my daughter, we had a listening agreement. I would let her play whatever she wanted and then I would get to play one of my cds. OMG. I got blasted with Lady Gaga, Rhianna, Avril Levigne, Asking Alexandria, and the Black Veil Brides. I would play what I consider essentials and my sole purpose was to expose her to the great music that came before her. Lots of Pink Floyd, Bowie, Beatles, Zappa, UFO, Van Halen. One trip I put on Echoes. About halfway through she said " this is really good. I like this. " I think I may have teared up. She wanted more Pink FLoyd. So I broke out Dark Side, Wish you were here, The Wall, and more. SHe was hooked. SHe has gone away to college now. I spoke to her on the phone a while ago and I was so damn proud of her when I heard her listening to Animals on the phone. She is well rounded musically and I couldn't be happier.
Robert leRoy Parker that’s so cool! I’m so glad teens are getting into such a great band. I’ve been listening to Pink Floyd since birth and I find it fascinating that a teen who listens to such mainstream artists enjoys Pink Floyd. This comment is worth the writing because now I can think of all the teens listening to Pink Floyd instead of doing drugs. Thank you.
5:36 I love the fact that they recorded Gilmor singing in the LEFT Channel and Richard Wright in the RIGHT channel. If you listen with earphones you can clearly listen each voice individually. Amazingly beautiful .
This should have been included in the Golden Record and sent along the Voyager to the cosmos. Any form of life with a minimal level of artistic sensitivity should have the privilege to listen to it.
Ehoes is not a song, it is not a psychedelic expression like Number 9 or Floyd's own Atom a Heart Mother whether the length of the piece becomes almost irrelevant. Echoes is a beautiful piece, modern-day variations on a theme, and is a true masterpiece. The live at Pompeii version may not be as polished as the studio version (naturally) but Nick Mason's amazing talent as a drummer really shines though here like nowhere else. And that goes for the entire album, which is a real gem.
I dont know......something about this song awakens feelings deep within the soul. I must have listened to this song hundreds upon hundreds of times and still, there is a feeling I get which I cannot explain. Almost as if I am transported to a different time. Sounds weird I know but it takes me there. So fitting that they did this in Pompeii.
@@mona6317 maybe exist, but only few music pieces will live. Pink floyd is definitely one which won't just exist, but continue to live and influence people. (not degrading other than bands)
Pink Floyd conquered millions of Iranian hearts since the 60s to present. David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Richard Wright (RIP) and Nick Mason + Syd Barrett (RIP) were our idols in my childhood and teenage years in Tehran, Iran. I grew up with them and they made an incredible impact on my soul and education ever since in different parts of the world as a world citizen. Thanks ...Much
And they still do... even in my 30's, after years of listenning for about 20 years, I discover more and more of their souls, which they've put on their masterpieces. Thanks roger, david, nick, and RIP our dear syd and rick. And i'm glad that i have millions of friends all over the world to enjoy it together.
He has such a unique ability to hit the drums just the tiniest bit late (I'm sure totally intentionally), which spreads a sense of relaxation to anything he plays on. The differences when other drummers played on the songs on the final cut were jarringly obvious and unwelcome.
Vincenzo Ferrante because people dont understand what a good drummer is, take it from someone who plays drums: Nick Mason may not have the technical skills like Bonham or Peart or Rich but he has more feel and emotion than any drummer in history
Brandon Quod AHHH MAN IT IS NOT ABOUT EMOTION BY SAYING IT IS ABOUT EMOTION IT IS LIKE YOU SAY NICK MASON IS AN AWFUL DRUMMER AND THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT HIM IS HIS EMOTION BUT THAT IS NOT FREAKIN TRUE. NICK MASON HAS GOT REALLY GOOD TIMING AND HE CAN PLAY FAST TOO WHEN HE NEEDS TO. HE HAS ALSO A GOOD TECHNICAL ABILITY. SURE HE IS NOT AS GOOD AS BONZO, KEITH MOON AND PEART BUT HE STILL IS A PRETTY BADASS DRUMMER
asking the crazy diamonds to shine on, without worrying about the pigs, for time is passing by. Us and them will never be the same, so don't let them meddle, don't chase the money, it is the saucer full of secrets hiding away in the dark side of the moon that we must seek. Keep your hopes high, and one of these days you will find what you seek...
Totally agree. My 15-YO self used to think there was way too much cymbal worked in here -- WHAT A MORON!! Also, this being my umpteenth time watching this, I just spotted Nick smashing a stick at 7:07, doesn't miss a beat. Love that guy.
The technology for recording and producing music was sonically fine, microphonics and tape recording was perfected in the 50s , the reproduction for sale to tape, vinyl and other formats would be where the losses in fidelity would occur.
@@DanHomeAtLast I agree. And later, it went too far when the technology took over at the recording end. Some would say that happened at some point in the eighties, but it still required a lot of work and mostly musical talent. Back then, it just seemed drastically different to the recent '70s, scare reports of "death of the guitar", "drummers out of work", etc. Post 1998 was the start of the rot in my opinion, coinciding(?) with the birth of Autotune. Just before that, there were many acts going back to the tech from this era.
My mother died 28 years ago yesterday and I remember this was the last thing we watched together before she went back to hospital to die, she had never seen or heard it but knew it was special.I have the studio album but this is the first time i have watched it since.
5:43 Richard sing " inciting and inviting me to rise " which was supposed to be " inviting and inciting " ... and so David ended up singing " inviting and inviting .. " and then he looked at Richard smilingly ... I loved it 😄😐😄😐
When the camera starts zooming out and then the "drop" happens. Chills. Also, Wright is criminally underrated and always has been. Pink Floyd wouldn't be the same Pink Floyd without him. So subtle yet so colorful and expressive. He was an equal part of the band until Waters' ego inflated like a baloon. I used to play the last part on my guitar, starting off badly then mastering the whole part. Rick's piano work is phenomenal. No adjectives can fully describe the sound.
My father is around their age and more or less raised me on Pink Floyd. Everytime this song comes on we both just look at eachother with this grin and whisper “echos”
17 years old right now and turning 18 in August. I just know that I’ll be watching this til I’m old, sitting there in the hospital bed blasting this on the smart tv.
EL HECHO DE QUE A NICK MASON SE LE ROMPA UN PALILLO EN 07:07 Y AGARRE OTRO SIN PERDER EL TEMPO Y SEGUIR CON LA CANCION COMO SI NUNCA PASO NADA, MERECE MI APRECIO ETERNO. LA SONRISA DE RICK WRIGHT CUANDO VE QUE SIGUE TOCANDO CON UNA MANO NO TIENE PRECIO. ESTABAN EN SU MEJOR SINTONIA. NICK HACE SONAR ESOS TOMS COMO UN ANIMAL..ECHOS ES ETERNA. GILMOUR, WRIGHT, MASON Y WATERS SON ETERNOS EN POMPEII
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of art on the planet converted into sound waves. Only the initiated and elect can see and appreciate what is going on here.
An empty ancient stadium,.....no audience,...and the best LIVE concert EVER!....gotta love it!..meant for you tube,...from the past!....for the future!...AWSOME!....I can die in peace now!
9000 years from now, Echoes will remain alone a platform of true musical genius. Their musical trajectory will remain unmatched. They live as immortals.
It is amazing how the tones of Gilmour and Wright's voices merge in a way that it is not easy to distinguish who is the first and the second voice over the musical compass. Simply amazing and beautiful.
I love this version the best. They are all spot on in this film. I especially like the bass guitar. This is one of their best songs. The Greatest band ever!!! David Gilmours guitar outro is Heavenly.
Agreed, this was mostly his song, something he started and David worked with him to flesh it out. a great team effort. which is why David has been increasingly wary to play it without him. I think he will not play it anymore.
indeed you are correct. the whole idea came from rick experimenting with playing his piano trough a leslie speaker. to this day, this sound remains unique in the history of music.
man, this part especially the instrumental just makes me feel like I'm on a grand interstellar journey through space. It's such a crazy dark sound that is beautiful and emotional at the same time.
This and Suppers Ready by Genesis. When bands wrote 23 minute epic masterpieces. You will never see this again. Even modern bands with 3 minute songs don't get radio play modern rock radio doesn't even exist and classic rock radio plays the same 3 hits from every band for the last 40 years.
Plenty of fans don't even know about it. they know Dark Side and beyond, because they get airplay, but not echoes. I was a PF fan from the late 70s on, and it wasn't until I saw my brother's VHS tape in 1990, that I discovered it. Of course those that do, cherish it. How many echo products have been created to replicate the Echorec based on this performance of Echoes alone?
Still the greatest song ever produced, right when it kicks into the ending part that guitar and the keys just sends shivers down my spine in a good way
This is the ultimate live Pink Floyd recording for me. Echoes is my favorite Floyd track and this version is just great. I particularly like the gradual fading outro, which starts around 7:38. Brilliant back and forth between keyboards, guitar and drums. Music at its very very best.
Favorite part for me, it is almost seamless, he just fills for a couple of beats with one, and already has another one somehow in his hand. Cool hand Nick.
right Mr Mason was and never will be called NICKY , it is Nicholas or Sir Nick of pikey Floydiam Ferrari GTO250 with a GTO250 numberplate lololololololo
Esta es mi centésima ocasión que escucho esta rola. Seguirá siendo parte de mi vida hasta que muera. Y espero que ojalá me acompañe hasta más allá. Gracias maestros. Les deseo una feliz navidad hasta donde se encuentren.
My baby girl is a 16 year old cancer survivor. She loves Pink Floyd. As I type this, she is painting a pig on the ceiling of her bedroom, listening to Animals of course.
These young English guys for a short moment captured by their own measure and effort gave all space traveling folk something we could all listen to on our everlasting journey, without ever feeling out of time in the present! ( :
As a teenager I was aware of Pink Floyd but it wasn't until I went to a friend's house, got stoned & he put Echoes on the turn table and it utterly transformed my perception of the band...I literally thought they were from outer space---then years later I found this video of them performing to the Roman dead in Pompei---mind blown again...yet, years later in college I saw Floyd play in Philly and they opened up with is...incredible
I saw a youtube comment that was so beautiful, it made me teary-eyed. 🥺 A man wrote: "In 1972, as a teenager, I sat in a dark room, smoking a joint, listening to Pink Floyd on my headphones. Here I am, 50 years later, doing the exact same thing. I'm blessed to have lived during the time of Pink Floyd."
With this recording I reach the pinnacle of musical listening pleasure and recommend Pink Floyd as the medicine for everything that ails our world. 'Echoes' is not a composition, it is a beginning and an end.amen
A Saucerful of Secrets ...their interesting, but I feel a bit overrated. Innovative in their use of exotic instruments, but too repetitive for my taste.
I make fun of Floyd's haters. It's like when I go to the zoo to see hippos. They are a strange community living in a swamp. Pink Floyd overrated and repetitive? Ahahahahahah... what a fucking witty joke!!
For tastes there are colours, not everyone will like the same music as you, it's part of the "ego" making fun of others people's music taste, just be grateful that you found a band who makes your life better with such pieces of art
Not everybody understand the difference between real artistic music and popular mainstream music. Pink floyd is the greatest artistic band of all time. Maybe queen and the beatles were more influential, but Brian may has himself stated that pink floyd was a major influence in their sound, and mccartney was also influenced by Syd.
the creepy part always reminds me of somewhere bleak like the yorkshire moors bathed in fog, then when daves bright arpeggio part comes in its like the sun blazing through the fog and you can finally see again
+tonbonthemon Yea, Right Dude!?? I'm a Musician Myself, and I tend to be very "Visual" with Music as well, seeing Patterns and things... Or even like you said, i sometimes even visualize and see like "Scenes", I guess you could call them, or like imagined "Music Videos" that the music could be playing to - You know what I mean Man..?? So yea, its ALWAYS made me want to be able and make like my Own Videos or little "Clips" or "Films" to go WITH particular Songs Man, that'd be SOO Dope Dude!!
This was before i was born...i only found intrest in Pink Floyd recently and came across this and to me its the greatest piece of music ever heard. Fuck music today..this was REAL.
Yeah shit used to be real with real music real.instruments real musicians that studied music and practice for years and years Now you put two verbs together and there you go you're an artist Same goes for pretty much anything else Civilization values speed and technological development to make life easier faster more practical but in reality we are shalower than our grandparents, no effort no depth no real sweat or feeling behind pretty much anything these days Luckily I won't be alive to see the bottom of the pit of lack of creativity 100 years from now
+george bevacqua like 7:06 where nick breaks his stick but SMOOTHLY replaces it without skipping a beat. i've been trying to master that art for YEARS. cheers everyone
so beautiful i get goosebumps everytime i discovered echoes in pompeii about 4 years ago when i started going to the university at such an important time this was beautiful piece came to me and helped me
Love every inch of this wonderful legendary song…❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ever since the band was introduced to the USA they have been sooo close to my heart. I love and have loved them all ❤
Was very fortunate to grow up in Buffalo n.y. and saw them 5 times. They were WAY AHEAD of their time and first realized that fact when i was 14....53 now. Musical geniuses !!
moncorp1 Inc Yeah he did. I think he slept with it at night, ate breakfast on it, and used it as a mirror to comb his hair and brush his teeth as well.
Couldn't agree w/ you more..my heart drips of affection for this band..I will never understand why for those who do not recognize them as being the ultimate best rock band ever!
4:42 part is so timeless and well-sounded. This arrangement could be used in a modern rock or nowadays electronic music and still sounds fresh! Beautiful and inspiring!
I was 16 and working as an apprentice coastguard on the Isle of Man when I first heard this, I remember going out of the lookout about 3 am and looking directly down into the crashing waves below, this fit perfectly and it is an indelible memory 50 yrs on....
The riff at 4:42 is one of my favorite Pink Floyd riffs. I prefer the studio version and played over and over instead of just twice haha, it's too good! You could totally play the Learning to fly video where the kid finally jumps off the cliff but turns into a bird over it.
