This is absolutely brilliant. Could you please tell me where that specific version of interstellar overdrive is from please 🙏 Re... Update, found it. It's from the Manchester live show that wasn't used for the album
@@johnthomaso4208 Dark Side's popularity is simply a measure of its conventional accessibility. They started to get conventional at that point. They didn't exactly sell out but they stopped experimenting in the way they had before. Which was a great, great shame because their experimentation was always so accessible 😊. I loved Can and Yes and Amon Düül II and Gentle Giant and so on but Floyd's AHM and Echoes were emotionally moving as well as intellectually interesting.
@@johnthomaso4208 Thanks for the reply. I'll just add one more thing which has irritated me for years and I think was more responsible for bringing down 70s prog rock than any number of virtuoso bass players bringing their Turkish carpets on stage. That is this nonsense about "Rock bands shouldn't be noodling around for hours without anything to say, they should stick to their knitting and restrict their output to good healthy 5-10 minute songs with social relevance." I mean, really??? Did anyone think to tell Wagner/Verdi/Mozart/et al that they should stick to writing cantatas and string quartets because that's what German/Italian composers are supposed to do? Rant over...😁
@@johnthomaso4208 There is no such thing as over-rated. That's just a word ignorant wankers use when they don't understand something that everyone else does. Don't worry though, because you aren't the only person with no understanding - whatsoever - of the difference between good music and bad music. You're almost entirely alone, but not completely, and that's a good thing. Misery loves company, as they say, and this @digoryjohns2018 person clearly knows as little about music as you. Maybe even less, if that's possible! I mean ... only someone who is completely clueless would compare Wagner, Verdi, and Mozart symphonies to overly long, self-important prog rock jams...
In fairness, side 1 could have been billed as Ron Geesin, featuring Pink Floyd. It's absolutely one of my favorite PF records. Whatever that girl in America did to Rick Wright certainly, um, inspired him, for Summer '68. Thank you, ma'am, wherever you are.
«In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias. And they which were sent were of the Pharisees. And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet? John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose. These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing. The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone. The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these. And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man. And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him. After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days. And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables; And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise. And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up. Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? But he spake of the temple of his body. When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said. Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did. But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.» (The Gospel of Jesus Christ - John - Chapter: 1...

Just when I think I've heard everything that Pink Floyd did during my favourite period of their work, you pull out some more stuff I haven't heard before.
Fabulous compilation of rare Floyd! Have heard The Early Years box set but some of this is even more elusive and obscure! Was particularly surprised to hear PF version of Golden Hair. High quality release that makes you wonder what else from this era might be lying hidden in the vaults!
I'm pretty sure that PF never performed Golden Hair. This is Take 5 of the song from The Madcap Laughs. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GpviGdeHgG8.html
Been listening to Pink Floyd since I was 4 years old. Have a brother 12 years older than me & he played these albums to me, including The Court Of The Crimson King ( King Crimson), Arthur Lee & Love (Love Forever Changes) & so many more. I have been lucky to have seen Pink Floyd play twice.
Love "Forever Changes" is the very best album of the psychedelic 60's, and one of the finest records ever.. So cool to have been exposed at such a young age, must be really comforting to hear those songs.
Completely agree with you. I was also lucky to see Arthur Lee perform Love Forever Changes in London shortly before he died. The music from that era was unique.@@Titihful
Grand Viziers taken directly from Ummagumma. Others mixed together from original sources, either official or not. There seems to be a lot of unofficial releases coming out, which are copies of old bootlegs, re pressed and re packaged, or cobbled together from a selectionof releases. Be careful what you purchase folks!
The first album I ever bought was "Ummagumma", and later I was blessed to assist "The Wall" life in Dortmund. I've been to hundreds of concerts, that one was by far the best of my life!!!!! I asked my daughter to bury me with "The Great Gig in the Sky". She later will understand......:-))
@@colonia8 I love Pink Floyd too, but at the time of my death it's Jesus that I'm going to call. It's to him that I'm going to give my soul, not David Gilmour. I want to go to heaven. I suggest you do the same thing
Actually I find Nick Mason to be mediocre at best. Especially during live PF, he seems to struggle to keep up with the longer, more improvisational sets. For instance he runs out of ideas for drum fills and keeps recycling the same ones over and over.
it's all about his feel for me. yes he uses similar fills, but they're characteristically him in the same way ringo's playing is so identifiable, and fit the music perfectly
So well put together...all of it worked...took me back to 1971 when I first heard The Pink Floyd and they were the most seminal musical influence in my life...then came '73...WOW...we are all a lot older now but the song remains the same...RIP Nick Wright...and don't forget Syd Barrett...👍
I’m 65 this month and my birthday gift arrived in advance, thanks some good heart people that glued all this once scattered stuff together. The AHM rendition is extraordinaire. Congrats.
65 coming January, older sisters collection turned me onto Umma Gumma, forever Pink Floyd best band in my lifetime; never bad song & always new experience with same songs like reading the Bible, same words but new meaning each time ✌️
And yet Gilmour, Waters, Wright and Mason all deny use of drugs, or "much" use of them back then. How they say that with a straight face is beyond me, yet after Syd, I can imagine why they wouldn't.
Congratulations for the quality of the work. Never imagined that the transition Barrett-->Meddle could have been summed so well mixing Golden Hair with Set the controls. Bravo! You can see how Roger struggled to be a writer. I always think that the combination of all the experiments from a Saucer to Meddle gave birth to "Dark side" (call me a freak but I never separate then from dark side). By 74 they were burnt out as a group. "dogs" and "sheep" were from 74, and since 75 it was all Roger. Each to their own. Others are Barrettian. I love 68-73, personally. All good, man!
1 PF, 2 The Doors 3 Strawberry Alarm Clock
@@belochegman Not sure why you bring up Genesis. They aren't comparable bands, really. And Floyd is the best at what they do! High concept albums from them are like no other.
I was thinking this was some kind of imposter mimicking Pink Floyd but the more I listened I realized this was legit unreleased recordings. How this version of AHM didn't make it on to the album?? Amazing, magical. Thank you!
This is the best of the old acts with new tracks. Clocks turned back to when The Rolling Stones is No 1 album, The Beatles a new best single, and Pink Floyd obscurely transcends them both.
8:19 Weird edit. But that section, Grooving with a Pict, was on the Works compilation that came out in the early 80s. A contractual fulfillment move after the band split. I was in high school then. We used to crank that up and laugh our asses off.
This has all been taken from Pink Floyd albums Ummagumma, The Early Years box set and Syd Barrett's Mad Cap Laughs, but it's a nice enough compilation. It might not actually be unlawful to present a home made compilation, complete with home made artwork, as if it were a real unreleased PF album, but it's a little bit sad.
Totally Mind Soothing !!! This is the direction Pink Floyd should have ventured into deeper instead of going the way of "DSOTM" . All True Psychedelic Heads love this style of Pink Floyd. I only wish this was a real cd that You can order !!! 🤩✌🖖🌌🪐☮🕉❇
Very smooth and solemn. My heart aches for the Pink Floyd Era 😢 of music that speaks to the heart. Thank you Pink Floyd, you gave us your utmost best..mind and soul.
so was this a offical release by the band or some sort of compilation ;or a bootleg found somewhere abroad , does anybody know the story here please ??

I think I need a Thai stick and a pair of head phones and I'd be all set 😊 I think I'm hearing a lot of stuff that sounds like tracks off the meddle album...just similar arrangements not exact..anyone else getting that ???
Excellent compilation!! Now all I need is a source for some fungi to go with it, and my Pink Floyd fix would be complete!!! Love the choices you have on here, man!
No me preocupé. No escuché música y mi familia guardó silencio, no me interrumpieron.
Last year I tried Mushrooms for the first time, age 51, (bucket list thing). Watched the whole Live at Pompeii Concert. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my live. I will never forget. Pink Floyd are levels above any other band in history.
I'm quite sure and convinced that within 100 years Atom Heart Mother wil still stand and survive as one their finest works. It's a great piece of art. My kids are 17 to 30 years old now, and PInk Floyd, even The Dark Side of the Moon, means nothing to them. Unfortunately of course. But ultimately, although the album is superb of course, the music and songs are already seemingly 'out-dated'.... In my opinion, 'The great gig in the sky' will also survive. Oddly enough: Richard Wright once again….
Thanks for making this available and for all the work that must have been involved. A long time Floyd fan, especially their early stuff, this has been a joy to listen to and will be time and time again. 🙂
I am really digging your work on these fan made releases! Creative integration of various live/demo/outtake components very well mixed and produced! Are you on Ravinganddrooling (old Yeeshkul) by chance? I think many of us would like to hear lossless versions of these. Thanks again for sharing!
I don't know exactly what " Fan made " means. But I noticed most of the music is blended in together! I recognize 90% of the music, which is blended into the one's I'm not familiar with!
What a great find! Thank you for digging these out and putting them together. Ummagumma was my first ever LP. It must have been January 1970 with the Christmas money. I was 12 years old and couldn't stop playing it (both live and experimental parts). I remained fascinated by the Floyd all through More, AHM (their best IMHO) and Meddle. Things started to slip with Obscured by Clouds, then DSOTM left me confused (I mean it was a good listen but why was it so conventional?) By then I was listening to Yes, Gentle Giant, Can, Faust, Amon Düül II and Tangerine Dream - Germany was very cool in those days. I've sort of befriended DSOTM and Wish You Were Here over the years but have never warmed to anything else. I was bored to death by Waters' megalomania and disgusted by his treament of the gentle and central Rick Wright, I mean how can you fire Rick Wright FFS??? Got to love Gilmour's sense of humour: The Final -Cut- Straw. Now I keep coming back to AHM and Meddle, and occasionally Ummagumma.
Thank You 👏👏👏. This is the best CD and best music I have heard in at least 10 years. Outstanding music to me it's Pink Floyd at their best. Of course I also love all their commercial successes until 1979 but this is on a totally different level and impossible to ever get tired of.
