They used a tape machine, and hand cut and spliced ....still to this day one of the best recorded albums of all time. Audiophiles like myself still use it to this day to test new equipment and speakers....
It's also the sound of cash registers opening and closing, but I'm not sure if young people these days have ever seen cash registers like that. Just as many have never heard the kind of clock sounds at the beginning of "Time."
@@plk5520 Know what? I've heard that song hundreds of times, and am playing it in my head right now. I can't figure out what you mean. Can you elaborate?
I absolutely love Pink Floyd, everything is so emotionally stirring. Everything is perfection with these artists. Seeing people react to this perfection for the first time makes it all the better. It never gets old.
Old time mechanical cash registers used to make a “Cha-Ching” when the drawer popped open before electronics. This is way before sampling, so they probably recorded it and spliced the tape together in the mixing process.
Scribe I like that you are appreciating classics such as Pink Floyd. I have been listening to Pink Floyd since I was a kid back in 1973 when Dark Side Of The Moon was released.
I think you're getting it now!! There is no other band like Pink Floyd and there never will be. Pink Floyd is my favorite band and David Gilmour is my Rock God!!
Thank god I was able to see this hall of Fame band in concert, twice. '88? At the UNIDOME, Ceder Falls Iowa was the first. The pig flew right over my head! Top 5 concerts I've ever seen. And I've seen ALOT of concerts...
OMG.....u are hella perfect...u remind me of my granddaughter sssssooooo much...she is 19 n was raised to appreciate all music...we used to play air drums n guitar all the time...
The samples of the coins at the beginning was done by manually splicing the tape with a razor blade, and reassembling it to make it match the beat (back in the late 80s, I worked as a recording engineer; I did this. But the way they did it is VERY difficult!) The main part of the song is in 7/8 time. Most songs you count 1, 2, 3, 4. This song you count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 (although the middle with the guitar solos is in 4). Very few rock songs do this.
As the "hit single" (a very rare thing for a Pink Floyd album), Money is probably the most played (over the years) and most under-rated track these days. Other tracks seem to get more hype lately (e.g. Comfortably Numb, etc.) IMHO, it's an absolute masterpiece, and still thrills and chills every time I hear it. Sweetie....You're a joy to watch. Sadly, GENUINE reactions are few and far between here. It's obvious you feel it and you "get it". First listen reactions are great, but great tracks always seem to get better with age.
Loved your reaction, Scribe. You were really getting into the song, and that saxaphone caught you off guard. Your insight into the meaning was pretty much right on point. Looking forward to more of your Pink Floyd journey
I think it's wonderful that music making has become an easier and more accessible craft to tackle. More creative minds are given the opportunity to reach within their minds to make more amazing music. oops I made a typo, I meant to say: "OK boomer"
Creativity and originality are not the issues that "boomers" and other people with musical knowledge and taste have with music-by-Mac, its the musicianship. If you have that nobody gives a scrap how you made it, but if you can get your Mac to play the sax or guitar like that and I will take my hat off to you before I eat it.
I went to see the LIVE "Dark Side Of The Moon" tour at Earls Court London, went in straight (sober) came out, after music, lights & special effects (including exploding rocket) feeling like I was tripping on acid. What a Show.
I AM ready to rock n' roll! Damn-I should have answered you 7 months ago! Cool reaction to this great song, and you're right-that bass carries such a great groove. I find I prefer rock music when it does groove like that, because that's what makes you dance. You had an articulate commentary on money as a social construct, which I found impressive, as my talking is usually riddled with "ums" and "uhs"!
Starts out in 7/4 time, a pretty weird time signature for a pop song, then switches to 4/4 for the solo, reportedly because Gilmour was unable to get a good solo going in that strange time signature.
you're having the same reaction i had in the summer of '73.....knowing then....this is the best we're gonna hear til some big dog knocks us off the mountain.....hasn't happened in 45 yrs......it gets better from here on in....their production regiment is unmatched.....can't find another band that gives the best every fucking time....this album will be # 1....every year til we die
Stop right here! Hun, you need to do a reaction to the entire Dark Side of the Moon album! Not 'track by track' with breaks, find this whole album uploaded on youtube and react! Pull up the lyrics and keep them handy, but don't let them get in the way of your groove!
This song has it all. A little bit of funk, a little bit of soul, and a SEARING, SCREAMING KICK-ASS guitar solo by David Gilmour. Great, from the opening cash register/loose change sound effects to the playful interaction between Gilmour and his guitar at the end.
Well, it's as simple as this: The squirrel has to get up everyday and spend it's entire day hunting for food whilst avoiding being eaten. You are free to go out and forage to your heart's content, no money need be expended. Or, you could outsource that labour to someone else so you can avoid all the leg work and energy that would be expended. Of course, the person doing the labour is spending time they could be growing/rearing food for themselves, on you. So, of course they need some sort of compensation so they can purchase food for themselves. It would be highly unfair on them if they spent all day out in the field for you, leaving nothing for themselves, without you rewarding them for their work so they can support themselves, no?
One of the best things about Floyd is the depth of their sound is like no other. Crystal clear & precise. I'm diggin' your vids Scribe. Your vision is similar to Floyd's sound. You go gurl!
Good grief. Pink is so good. Anything off of Dark Side or The Wall is pure excellence. For a slightly deeper cut, try out "On the Turning Away." It doesn't get nearly as much radio play as many of their other tracks, but it's amazing.
Oh I was waiting for you to get to the kick ass middle of the song, because I knew you were gonna jam out! And, of course, you didn't disappoint! Rock on!
Been literally listening to pF ALL my life, like this album, DSOTM, came out right as I was born. Felt like we were dancing together as I drove down the interstate. Thx for bringing new life in bands we still love
Of all the reaction videos to Pink Floyd's many masterpieces, yours is the first that took me back to my 15yo self hearing this for the first time in 1977. Thank you so much. I hear my Grammom's sage words every day: "It's only money until you need it."
Yeah there's a lot of people that don't understand Pink Floyd music and don't understand why we like it watching your reaction that's exactly why we like it it's funky it's rock gets to your soul it's everything good reaction
Pink Floyd: If you ever get the song - Time, do Time and Great Gig in the sky together. Why? Because the go together as one song....PS. I like your reactions so far.; )
No sampling in those days. They used existing recordings and some they made, put them on 1/4 inch magnetic tape ans spliced it together in the time signature of the song, which is 7/8 time I believe.
Going home from school my friend says, my brother won't be back yet and he's just got the new Floyd record - do you want to come and hear it? Blasted the whole DSOTM throughout the empty house - bliss. 😊
What is truly priceless is watching you react to real music. Todays music is about money, me, mine, and how much I got. The difference being that older artists wrote stories about things and events that affected themselves and other people. But the palette of music is so limited now, which is why pro tools actually and auto tune are inhibitors to music.
