I envy anyone who had the opportunity to see Floyd during this period in the band's history. This is my favourite period and they were recording some of their most beautiful songs. Before the pomp and gloom that would define their later years from '73 to '79 they were trying different sounds. Some worked and some didn't. It is obvious a few albums were recorded hurriedly and sound very rough and lack that studio polish, but this is where the charm lies.
This is one of the first live execution of Atom Heart Mother. Absolutely fantastic, the powerful keyboards line makes it more epic and very different from subsequent live version and the official recording.

Boy oh boy, you sure punched this one up! Sounds way way better than the vinyl boot I have of this, from years ago, so bad I practically never played it. This is raw power and I thank you for your work!
C'est malade mental! Ma pièce préférée tous groupes confondus! J'adore la version studio sur mon vinyle et je découvre avec une stupéfaction qui frôle l'euphorie qu'il existe une version brute, au tout début de la création de l'oeuvre, une version qui allie la force de la composition à la magie des premières versions live. Wow!
Oui bien dit, c'est en effet un version brute, un premier jet non raffiné, qui date d'avant la version studio (qui fut enregistrée quelques mois plus tard). Difficile d'égaler l'épique version orchestrale qu'on connaît avec seulement quatre musiciens, et pourtant l'esprit de l'oeuvre est bien là, et finalement on se laisse emporter comme dans la version studio.

Still AWESOME and it will always be. A true classic in the sense of a Mozart, Bach and all the other great ones in the past centuries, Pimk Floyd has a rightful place till in the far future as a classic band.
Ce fut mon tout premier pirate du Floyd, donnée sur une bande magnétique (même pas une K7) en 1972 par un copain. Il y avait des manques dans l'enregistrement, mais en picorant sur le net de ci de là, j'ai pu reconstituer le concert dans son ensemble. Et ce fut un sacré concert !!!
this is definitely an early version for sure...the slide solo for "breast milky" sounds very fresh indeed, not like the latter versions when Dave drenches those slide solos done with a pedal steel slide on The Black Strat in analog delay. ..in the picture here he's playing his white Strat. the one that was stolen down here in New Orleans in April of 1970.

@@TheHeho C'est le concert du 22 ou du 23 janvier 1970. David introduit le morceau en disant en français "C'est le dernier morceau qu'on va faire. On sait pas très bien ce...c'qu'on va faire. Ça a été écrit la semaine dernière alors... On y va !" Et ils y vont. Et... ça tient quand même pas mal la route, non ?
Amazing version without the metal section and the lyrical chorus type "Oh Fortuna" (Carmina Burana) and without the bizarre and avant-garde sounds from "Mind your throats please" But with a voice (like Clare Torry's performance in "The Great Gig in the Sky") in the suite section "Mother Fore".
Pas Clare Torry, qu'ils ne connaissent pas encore à l'époque. Les chœurs en voix de tête sont assurées par David et Rick. Et grands dieux que c'est beau !!!
:o) Reminds me of my Floyd bootleg of this piece. Mine is just over 30 minutes long and just one side of a very heavy vinyl. The other side is just over 30 minutes long and has Granchester Meadows, Cymbaline and other stuff. It cost the same as about 12 hours part time work when I was at school in 79. It has no artwork with it unfortunately, but still worth those hours!!!
I wish they had recorded the album with this version similar to the KQED one. I have never bought that album since I dislike the metals and chorus of that album version, otherwise it could have been one of their best records ever.
Also I see from "In The Flesh" they also did Violent Sequence, Biding My Time and Main Theme from More that night. You don't have the complete tape perchance do you? (he said, fingers crossed)
Exact.Il y eut l'intégrale de The Man (dont Biding My Time et l'étonnant Work), ainsi que Saucerful Of Secrets, Astronomy Dominé, Green Is the Colour/Careful With That Axe Eugene, et Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun (une version survitaminée sous Prozac !)
Tiens ! Je reconnais la version remixée que j'avais faite à partir de deux sources il y a quelques années, reconstituant la partie de choeurs en voix de tête de Rick et David qui est bien souvent amputée de trois bonnes minutes (quel gâchis ! On entend les transitions sur cet enregistrement, mais j'ai fait ce que j'ai pu !) sur la plupart des pirates que l'on trouve. Cette version n'est toutefois pas la plus complète : un solo de batterie, absent ici, venait prendre la place qui sera occupée plus tard par "Mind Your Throats Please". Néanmoins, enjoy ! Cette version est, sinon la première, mais une des toutes premières que le groupe ait présentée en public, alors que le morceau avait été, selon Gilmour qui le présente en français, "écrit la semaine dernière. Alors... on y va !". Quel groupe se lancerait ainsi de nos jours dans un morceau à peine ébauché ? Respect Gentlemen. Et plus encore à vous, Richard Wright.
Surtout un tel morceau ! J'avais jamais percuté que c'était joué avant la parution de la version album en fait (je me disais que c'était la classe d'avoir arrangé en live la version orchestrale, en fait c'est l'inverse du coup, c'est la version orchestrale qui est un arrangement de ce qu'ils jouaient en live à quatre). En tout merci pour ton assemblage. Perso je l'ai trouvé sur un site français de fans de Floyd, les gars m'ont filé un album pirate nommé "Elysée Floyd", que j'ai remasterisé car c'était crado, y avait plein de souffle entre autre, peu de basses etc. Oui on entend la coupure mais bon c'est pas gênant, c'est un truc de fan. De même j'ai pas réussi à empêcher la saturation par moment, c'était irrécupérable mais ça rend bien quand même, check les comms, c'est que des fans en transe ;)
@@TheHeho Oui, merci pour ton indulgence. C'est moi qui ait fait cet "Elysées-Floyd" il y a pas mal d'années. Mais cette version n'est encore pas tout à fait complète, et si tu trouves "Floyd-Elysées", là tu auras la version complète qui atteint presque 22 mn. Ce qui manque ici, c'est la partie correspondant àce qui sera plus tard "Mind Your Throats Please" et qui est alors un long solo de Mason . Je suis modo sur Seedfloyd sous le pseudo Blue Berry. En fait, ils ont continué à jouer cette version à quatre (avec bien sûr des variations) jusqu'en 1972 car la gestion des chœurs et de l'harmonie de cuivres posait de réels problèmes. Et ces versions "allégées" sont souvent très enthousiasmantes. Je te conseille celle de Montreux en novembre 1970 que l'on trouve sur le pirate "Smoking Blues" : elle est magnifique, avec un son exceptionnel : il était prévu que ce concert paraisse en live officiel un an après UmmaGumma qui les avait laissés insatisfaits.
