Pinky misinterpreted it and thus was asking an irrelevant question. The ad said they needed elves. So elves had to apply to the North Pole. The North Pole is where Santa's workshop is allegedly located.

No matter how ridiculous Pinky's answer are, Brain always comes up with a quick insult/banter that critize Pinky's lack of intelligence. Also, his scowl is too priceless and funny. All in all, these ponderings are witty and clever to watch.

Pinky And The Fog is such a brilliant example of meta comedy. Brain is a spoof of Orson Wells. The Fog is a spoof of The Shadow, who Orson Wells played on the radio in the 1930s. Most audience members in the 90s wouldnt have known that. The only reason I know it is because The Shadow movie with Alec Baldwin got me interested in the old radio series.

I was waiting for the bit from the episode shown from Pinky's perspective where you get to follow the train of logic that leads to his "ponderings." Guess that must've been in one of the other seasons, or in Animaniacs.
I wonder what happened to them while they were in the lab to have so much history to bring up. Seems like years of being testing partners got the better of Pinky's sense of context.
