The "pan" intro was cute! The Pan & Zoom editing sure has gotten a lot simpler to accomplish since PS18/19. That feature alone sure would make editing my videos a lot easier and quicker. As always, thanks Maliek.

One of my uses for PS is to create slideshows with appropriate music and, to animate them, pan and zoom is essential. For basic pan and zoom the right click menu brings up a simple to understand and use - but basic - version of P&Z but, for more complicated stuff, the version found via double clicking is necessary. However, I was really having trouble getting my head round how to use it successfully until I thought of checking if you'd done anything on it and, of course, you have. The user manual is hopeless but your video is first class - it covers everything, not just the bare minimum, and after watching this and putting your methods into practice I can now use it effectively and with confidence. Pinnacle Studio 21 is much easier to use than the Premiere Pro I learned several years ago. And the cost is much less, too!! Thanks for clearing up the nuances of Pan and Zoom feature. One thing with my screen and yours is the difference yours looks from mine. I don't see the keyframes like yours shows!!

Yes, the features will be good.. Not that it matters but it took away all my project bins, and I noticed it reset all my settings like Pal/NTSC, Render while playing etc. I went to the control panel and fixed them up.

Is anyone else having issues with Pan and Zoom? I'm doing a simple animated "zoom in" for 3 seconds then hold it for the rest of the scene. I can't copy a new keyframe at the end. When I delete a keyframe Pinnacle crashes. I would say it's crashed over 20 times, maybe more. I decided to start the new scene at the zoom-in parameters I want (instead of taking the 3 seconds to zoom in)

No, I used the properties to zoom & adjust vertical and horizontal to get the scene where I want it, and started the view from there. I know support will suggest i re-install the program which i don't want to do now. I'll wait for the next fix to come out then upgrade to that one. Just curious if anyone else had this issue.

Hey I have the same issue I think and it has to be a major bug. When you try to delete a keyframe in the upper left window ("Pan and Zoom Source") the program crashes immediately. In this same window is the red and the green box. I want to start (green) from the whole video, then animate it so that it zooms in to point A and then moves to point B (still zoomed in). Very simple. But when I try to move the red box it always goes back to where it was before; at the same time this creates a curve in this little blue arrow which begins at the green box' middle, then goes over a new red dot and makes a curve to the red box' dot. But everytime the actual played video just moves to the new single red dot, not to the end of the arrow (the red box' dot). It's so confusing and I seriously don't know what to do with it, it has to be a huge bug in the program. Or could you please explain to me how to zoom in to point A and stay zoomed in while moving to point B - with keyframes? It can't be that hard! :(

The issue I'm running into is when I try and animate a custom zoom. When I go to my end point, it is automatically defaulting to some crazy zoom number in the mid 60's, which is a lot closer than I was looking for. It will not allow reset at all or allow me to move the zoom out manually. I'm new to this version so it might be user error as well, wouldn't surprise me :)

Everything works exactly as you described, great video. One quick question though, I want the bounding box for the pan and zoom to be 16:9 like my video, but its locked in at 4:3 to match the source picture. Any way to change the shape of the pan and zoom box?

what if you want to pan and zoom on multiple things? I'm creating multiple key frames, but the zoom is ridiculous. When going from one key frame to the next, it appears to "zoom out" a tiny bit, all on it's own, before going to the next key frame. It's horrible! There must be a way to do it better.

Now I have another question some Dummy at Pinnacle support can't answer because his grasp of English is limited. Any way when I right click on a clip and pick CUT or DELETE it does a Ripple delete How do I get it to Just delete the clip and leave a hole where the clip was ... been at this one at Pinnacle support for 2 weeks now. Still no answer they always talk about DELETEING A TRANSITION

I love pinnacle studio, it is awesome, because of its power and features. One question for u,is there an automatic counter to insert in a title. I want to insert the counter in a frame, and copy that frame with the cojunter So that when it displays the next frame it would insert the next icrement by 1, say if it was 1 in frame 1, so the next frame would be 2. maybe u could show me a way around it. U would want to know why. Well I have a prayer on a sound track and I want to recite it 108 times. Thus this frame on a track of its own will do the counting when I copy and paste it to the previous frame. Also how do I copy the playlist for all Pinnacle 19 and 21 separately. Do u have a link for that? thank u for your humourous presentation of the training serious, I enjoy them and keep up the good work.

Does Any of the Pinnacle products have ab auto slide show where I can lay down a number of stills on the time line automatically add transitions and then have it automatically add random Pan & zooms to each still (Clip) alla Ken Burns effect? Love the tutorials! Mahalo! How can I keep Studio from zooming out BEYOND the boundaries of my content (resulting in visible black borders moving in and out of frame in the rendered effect) between key frames? This is an issue I deal with on occasion that vexes me and I'd really love a solution to. For background: I film my passengers' skydives with fixed,. wide-angle, back of hand-mounted action cameras. When not actually skydiving, I handhold these cameras (without viewfinders) for the purpose of getting footage on the ground, footage in and from the aircraft, and the obligatory pre- and post-jump interviews. I've gotten pretty good at framing my shots this way by hand, but occasionally when shooting large groups of jumpers all at once, I'll err on the side of caution and stand back far further than necessary; I'll then discover in post that I need to utilize the pan and zoom feature to crop tighter on the group I filmed and compensate for any left/right/up/down errors in framing. This will often require an animated pan and zoom with multiple key frames, with both pans and zooms that reverse direction during the shot. It seems Pinnacle attempts to 'round off the edges' between my keyframes and as a result, and overshoots my chosen framing by sometimes a visibly significant margin. Example: I start with my 30 second shot zoomed in by a factor of, say, 25%. Beginning at 10 seconds I want the zoom reduced to 0% (full frame) over a period of five seconds. At 20 seconds (after 5 seconds at full frame) I again want to begin zooming in to the shot. Invariably, at this point, Studio will cause my clip to continue zooming out (in the period that should be simply full frame) BEYOND full frame (say, to negative 15%) instead of just remaining constantly framed between the identical, sequential keyframes five seconds apart. Why does it do this, and more importantly, how can I prevent it without breaking the clip into pieces and individually editing the p&z on each? * I thought choosing the linear option should do the trick, but alas, it does not.

PinnacleStudioPro - thanks for the response. Have had better luck with the key framing of 21; but confused why there are basically THREE different pan and zoom interfaces now, and they don't seem to work together (key frames added on the top left panel don't appear in the preview window, and sometimes, vice versa. Work in progress, I guess. It's a great feature, but one that often is the most frustrating experience in the software other than mysteriously hung renders.

Could you cover zooming when multiple video tracks are involved? It seems like you have to render them together and then use that as source for a second rendering with the pan and zoom. But if I do that, I'm dumping a lot of resolution; one track is at 50% size so I'm having to lower the size for the first rendering and then I'm zooming on the second rendering. That whole process drops the resolution way down. (I'm reducing a full length actor to fit in an interior background). Thanks!

I love your tutorials and have learned something from almost all of them. I am using Pinnacle 21 and I am not as happy with the pan and zoom as I was with Pinnacle 20. I use a combination of photos and videos. Some of my photos are landscape, but a few are portrait. In Pinnacle 20, the pan and zoom boxes showed in the aspect ratio of my video. In Pinnacle 21, it mimics the photo, but the source then never matches what it actually looks like in playback. Very frustrating, any suggestions?

I've still got the same question I've asked before I can't get a straight answer from Pinnacle nor followup from the question on version 19 & 20 .... I create slideshows from still photos, if I have 20 photographs and want the exact same pan zoom on all of them how can I do this? I don't want to create the exact same one individually the time consuming effort is making me crazy .... I've had Studio since version 4 or 5 and still can't do this ... HELP!

Hi, thanks for ur cool videos. I have a problem. When I pan and zoom, the zoom is of a bad quality, seems like resolution is low, the image is blurry. I am using high resolution .MTS videos so this can't be the reason. And it is not only the preview but also when I export. . With other video editing programs I don't have such a problem. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.

With my new equipments ability to record in 4k, this effect will be used *ALLOT* more! Why? Because when rendering my projects in 1080p, the 4k allows me to use the feature without losing picture quality. this feature can really make the difference in a scene! But, as with all the awesome features in Pinnacle, moderation is the key to making a video a pleasure, or pain to watch. It's just like what differentiates a good cook with an awesome cook. While they both have the same resources at hand, one uses their spices a pinch at a time, while the other dumps it all over. Use these features sparingly, as not to give your audience a headache... ;O)

Exporting in 4k is very awesome! Especially if you do anything on RU-vid. The reason? RU-vid detects your video is in 4k, and allots your video more bandwidth. It also renders your video differently in its sever, allotting a much different compression rate for storage, because it's 4k. It's not that anyone is going to watch your RU-vid video in 4k on their laptop or smartphone, but the video will load much faster at the lower 1080 setting, and look less compressed as well.

I'm having a problem with the pan feature. Let's say I have text going from right to left and I'm using the keyframes to make it pan in super quick, then it slows down a little bit (but still moving slowly to the left) and then it goes all the way out to the left, fast. For some reason the text will randomly oscillate to the right and left before getting to the next keyframe. I only have 3 keyframes, so it's not like a created a bunch of keyframes by accident. Have any of you guys ever experienced that? I appreciate any input. Thank you!

how can you use the rectangular boxes to control where you want to start-end in the pan and zoom effect? PS does not seem to let me touch and ctl the boxes. I have to manually put in numbers on the left to control this. this is different than previous version of PS

Hi there - I am trying to copy a Pan and Zoom effect from one clip to another. In your Pinnacle 18/19 tutorial, you showed this could be done by right-clicking on the pink bar at the top of the clip and selecting "Effects" and then "Copy All". But in Pinnacle 21, when I right-click, this doesn't happen. Instead of "Effects" coming up "Pan and Zoom" comes up with the option only to delete from the current clip. There doesn't seem to be the ability to copy to another clip. Does anyone have a solution for this? thanks in advance.

Maliek, I am having problems with he key frames. If I change a key frame and do not have the line exactly on the key frame another key frame is created and ultimately causing the video/image to appear to move around. Any quick cure?

Use the next keyframe or previous keyframe button to land exactly on the keyframe before changing the keyframe.

Sir, I'm using pinnacle studio 14 & I'm trying to export a video (1920×1080 | 718MB | 8:13 mins) Added 16 audio clips(wav file type) in music track. But after exporting video, only last 10seconds of video being saved (means only that clip, where I'm not adding audio clips) Delete auxiliary files, complete rendering, even removed all speed & stabilize video effect... Tried all tricks, but not works yet.... Plz plz plzzz help me

When I zoom in, my image is super blurry. Is there a way to fix the blur? Edit: Okay nevermind. Seems like the blur is only in the preview. When I export the project, the blur is all gone!

Do you have the latest Pinnacle Studio patch installed? Have you tried resetting the effects or resetting the program (under Control Panel) If you've tried these options you should start a new thread on the Pinnacle Studio forum to see if anyone else has had this issue and was able to resolve it. If not, you'll need to contact support for help.

I have a snapshot (a still image) of a family gathering that I have inserted onto my timeline. In the movie I am creating, I first zoom onto the image to get closer to the faces in the photo and then I pan across the faces in the image. Now I would like to add names to the faces, but I want those names to follow the faces as the image is panned. Does anyone know if there is any way to do this on Pinnacle 21. I know I can use "motion tracking" on video images, but this is a still image that is being panned across. Thanks.

The standard version should have a title editor that you can use to add text.

hey, i'm having such a hard time with this pan and zoom. it seemed to have been much simpler in the previous versions. i saw the keyframing tutorial, but i had issues with that as well. i basically i have a photo image. i want to start at a close position, pan up to another and then stay at that position for the rest of the image, but i can get it to do it. i set the first keyframe and then move to where i want it to stay til the end, but it seems to do what it wants towards the end. any ideas?

After you move to where you want it to stay you have to create a keyframe, then you need to create a duplicate of that keyframe at the end of the video. That way it stays at the same position the entire time.

Pinnacle Studio und der Ken Burns Effekt, das wird wohl nie etwas. Auch in Version 21 kann man noch immer keine eigenen Voreinstellungen für Pan & Zoom speichern. Das wäre vor allem für animierte Fotos wichtig, damit man eigene Presets nutzen kann.

Thanks for the video. Do you know where i can get affordable cinematic lightning effect plug ins? I saw a plug in from helios for like 30 bucks but i'm not sure if it is compatible. If not do you know a plug in that i can use for ps 21 ultimate?

Besides the plugins that are already in PS21 Ultimate, ProDAD Vitascene & Adorage are the only plugins with lighting effects that I can think of but if you're looking for something around $30 look elsewhere.

Not sure what is going on with 21 but it is taking 3 hours to export a 1920x1080 3 minute video and it is only 60% finished. In pinn 20 this would have taken no more then 10 min.

This is by far the worst "Basic" Video editing software I have ever come by. I can't even do a pan after 2 hours of jerking around ... its so buggy. The software looks like its locked the keyframes and I cant even edit them. For somethign so simple, why are all these issues happening. Won't be upgrade this software ever again. I followed this tutorial exactly as explained but the behavior of the software does not align with what is being shown here.

la cagaron con esta versión, cada vez que sacan algo nuevo, nomás la riegan y dejan atrás funciones indispensables para optimizar el tiempo. En otras versiones se podía animar el zoom in y zoom out, pudiendo copiar y pegar más adelante en los siguientes clips o imágenes, la misma animación, para así nomás de mover un poco el encuadre, y ahora con esta versión ya no se puede, y hay que animar foto por foto, en el caso de querer hacer un fotoclip muy largo. Parece que lo hacen adrede. En lugar de facilitarnos la vida y pensar en lo que se puede hacer, nos la complican con interfaces técnicas de "profesionales" al tener que poner keyframes. the shit with this version, every time they get something new, they just irrigate it and leave behind essential functions to optimize time. In other versions you could animate the zoom in and zoom out, being able to copy and paste later on the following clips or images, the same animation, just to move the frame a bit, and now with this version it is no longer possible, and you have to animate photo by photo, in the case of wanting to make a very long photo. It seems that they do it on purpose. Instead of making life easier for us and thinking about what can be done, we complicate it with technical interfaces of "professionals" when having to put keyframes.
