I'm gonna tear your playhouse down. oh baby that bass line the octave effect on the fretless bass to get that weird greasy 80s synth bass tone totally reminds me of how bassists emulate the sound of an 808 with an octave pedal nowadays. except yknow Pino was doing it 30+ years ago. man has contributed so much for so long, 100% a living legend.
For the last week I've been obsessively working my way through that song - surprisingly complex! Also, maybe the clearest example of John's Rachmaninov hands.
Brian, I don't know how this can be real but the fact that I found your channel some time ago gives me so much happiness and motivation. A few weeks ago I got hooked on "Just Wrong" and seeing that you uploaded this video even seems a bit overwhelming.... Please continue doing what you do, you're amazing!
@@BrianKrock Thirded here. As with a LOT of albums rn I'm strongly favouring the live version they've put on youtube. Doesnt hurt that I'm a massive Sam Gendel fan.
Awesome video Brian: your knowledge, your constructive listening, the musical and the sensitive grasp of this awesome album is brilliant! Pino’s musical ideas and language together with Blake’s sonic and aesthetics approaches and choices makes this album an absolute gem!
Thank you, Brian! Some of my favourite pino basslines come from the D'angelo and the Vanguard album. Great feel all around, but I like the playful one on "ain't that easy". Cheers!
Great interview thanks... I can't get enough of Pino... You should check out a project called plumb...There on JMI label.... Totally mind blowing.... Ray Angry,Questlove and David Murray.... There's a lot of great music on JMI
Thanks Brian, Mighty Interview. Stumbled across individual tracks 2 days ago & feasting ever since. Downloaded my Notes with Attachments copy from iTunes today! Brilliant Music Pino & Blake!
Such a cool interview/ video! Especially since I've never seen one where Pino talks at length about his playing. Thanks for putting this out there and all the editing (obvious or subtle) you did.
!!! This is maybe my all-time favorite Pino line! I’m guessing he got writer credit for that- it makes the song. I love to play along with it on bass clarinet.
@@BrianKrock That's awesome! He's got such great feel on that line. It kind of bounces , it would be a great warm up for articulation on wind instruments
I'm confused by the quarter note to half note triplet you have written out for the Just Wrong bass line. Wouldn't it need to be a quarter note to dotted quarter/eighth tied to a quarter? Great video btw.
