i love how emet is offended at you saying he made an illusionary comfort-space of amaurot, and literally everyone we meet goes "lol yeah that sounds exactly like something he'd do"
"Has your journey been good? Has it been worthwhile?" I had to walk away from the computer, go outside and silently stare at the sky for a good ten minutes.
The Venat duel is one the most pure serotonin moments I've ever experienced in a video game. The talk with her preceding it, the music, the playful mood, it's just delightful.
WoL: I better keep my mouth shut and to not mess with the space-time continuum... Venat: Bro, you're from the future? WoL: Bruh.. Emet: Why don't start at the beginning? WoL: Ok, it all started at this place called the Waking Sands, where you had to Pray to return to...
I remember answering her questions if life is good with no and her building me up was the best feeling ever. I was at a really dark place at that time. And now I am here again, crying a river
I wish more media was as uplifting as ffxiv. The game acknowledges darkness, yet still is completely positive in its overall outlook, and the world needs more of that. Too much media is completely cynical in outlook, where not only is the world dark, but all the main characters are dark too. It's like optimism has fallen out of fashion and is seen as quaint or childish.
Same here, in general EW felt so cathartic and uplifting. Absolutely one of my favorite games FFXIV for trying to convey such an amazing message. Im glad it was able to do the same to other people as well, hope it continues to do that years later.
That’s one of the things that I adore about FFXIV. It’s really so wholesome towards the WOL and yourself. Characters genuinely care about you and how you’re feeling throughout your journey.
Howdy yall, I'm doing a lot better now! I had to cut some of the Tom Scott video for copyright so here's the full video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9KOZUw_Ah8w.html I'm not sure if it was a panic attack, adrenaline, sleep deprivation, or a mix of everything, but I've streamed since and I'm all okay now! I absolutely ADORE the venat fight, maybe a little too much, so dont worry that it ruined it for me hehe. Alas, sometimes the dynamis goes a little crazy, thanks for understanding and apologies for a shorter strim
Your attempts were really great and it gave some very intensive moments. Thanks for not lowering the difficulty, that fight needed to be a bit tough! :D
I remember doing Venat's fight with Ninja on day 4. Thankfully for me, Ninja was actually not bad at all. It was middle-to-somewhat higher. As soon as those adds started coming in, I thought, "yeah, this might be a problem." ... Then I remembered I have the move equivalent of Volcano. So even when they got too close, I just popped my kassatsu and lit it up like christmas in july. That move was surprisingly good at dealing with the overwhelming numbers at the end, so instead of panicking, I found myself standing there, humming. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Ninja made Venat a cake walk. You still had to be good and not bank on one move. I remember laying down Dotan-- the earth AoE DoT-- and blasting 'volcano' first, then ending with the AoE one-two combo. But I felt my stomach DROP when she nearly ENDED me with the one limit break. She still had life and I was a shred from death. I had popped Bloodbath and Second Wind already, sooo... Yeah, when she stopped that fight, I fell back in my chair and stared at the ceiling. Square coulda really done us like that. And they didn't. Thank you, Yoshi-P.
Glad you added this! It happens to me pretty frequently, I was wishing I was there to reassure you bc I know how disturbing that can be, but you seemed to know what to do. One of my triggers is insufficient sleep and dehydration, so take care of that boday
Venat's speech on the bridge has got to be one of my most favorite cutscenes here in Elpis (it also makes the later "Answers" cutscene even better). No intense action: It's just two travellers sharing their stories and beliefs with each other. And of course - hear, feel and think. 1:53:45 I hope that Pint was ok after that sparring match with Venat. It's understandable if he wanted to take a break afterwards. It looked like he was experiencing an adrenaline rush after that duty.
The fact that she asks you the player, was it worth it? They don't even let your character provide any sort of answer because the question isn't to your character. That question is to you and I feel like it's more than just was the game worth it. It's asking you whether your journey through life has been worth it. That is what art in a video game can be like.
It’s a beautiful, vulnerable moment, to anyone who has ever had such an amazing connection to life in the moment, it stirs the soul. Life is really really big and real. It sounds silly put that way.. but if you know, you know.
i think there's a silver lining to everything in life. for example pint's performance with the venat sparring duty gives me hope i might clear ultimate too if i put my mind to it :)
I'm not sure if Pint remembered this during the time his WoL was telling the story of the final days to the trio, but Emet said earlier when you reach Elpis that they can discern if the person is lying or not through the aether of the person. So the WoL telling the whole story may came as a surprise to Emet no matter how far flung the story is, the WoL is not telling a lie.
No problem with pacing yourself. :) There's an obvious difference between some of the infamous "stalling" moments by streamers and doing more than just MSQ back to back until fully complete. Love watching your streams for you, not just for your reaction to the MSQ. Keep on keeping on.
After the original "mommy" joke made about hydaelyn in pint's first ff14 video way back when I can only imagine this section has amplified those feelings quite a bit
The reason Emet invited you to fight him, which directly led to his downfall, is because he WANTED you to win. His entire reason for goading you on, pushing you forward, giving you little hints, pushing you to your limit, was because he wanted to believe that the people of the sundered world could prove themselves worthy of living on without any more rejoinings. Of course, he almost always refused to admit that, and he still desperately wanted to bring back the unsundered world that he loved, but part of the reason I love him as a villain is because he had a genuine hope that the Warrior of Light would defeat him and prove that the future was bright even without the ascians and their plan. That's why, when you do strike him down at the end, his final words were "Remember that we once lived." His final request was that they, all they stood for, and all who sacrificed themselves to Zodiark, would not be forgotten in the new future you were creating.
The irony is, Emet-Selch was right. We had failed his test standards - that is, being able to contain the Light. And the only reason we beat him then and there was because Ardbert merged with us, making us EIGHT times rejoined instead of Seven like everyone else except Graha-tia. So for the world to meet Emet's standards, the Source only needed to be rejoined one more time... which none of the Scions were going to let happen if they could help it.
also, we must stress, he really, REALLY wanted to die lahabrea, through his own failure... got to stop. it's over for him. no more running around trying to cause another apocalypse, trick the half-men into destroying themselves again and again and again and every time losing a little more faith they have any reason to exist... or that what he is trying to do is even possible. emet-selch is tired. and the chance to finally rest... well, he'd never take it. it would be a hideous betrayal of everything he stands for. but what's one more to grow on?
Preach on brother. Just to add two observations that I think lend to this idea: 1/ he had like several days to kill Graha and did not. He also could've killed any number of the scions as well as the WoL prior to our merging with Ardbert and chose not to give anyone as much as a scar. 2/ he could see the color of our soul from the first time he laid eyes on us. He knew exactly who the WoL was and I'm sure he didn't need more reason than "I don't want to kill my best friend" to yield his legacy to us.
I don't think he wanted to be beaten, but I think being beaten did help legitimize sundered people in his eyes. Then once he died (EW SPOILER>>>) he was able to remember what happened in Elpis before Hermes wiped his memory, and having that information he was then fully on board which explains why he helped us in the fight against Elidibus. I don't think he needs a reason for inviting us to fight beyond he wanted to kill us because we were disrupting his rejoining plans. He also expected us to turn into a monstrous light warden and facilitate those plans.
As far as I remember, Emet is tempered by Zodiark. He is compeled to fight us in shadowbringers, even if he's tired and willing to give us a chance, he has no choice. (EW spoilers>>) "remember that we once lived" could also be him inviting you to Elpis after he remembers us
26:52 love how when pint said "this feels like the beginning of the end" aligns with the tune of the bgm, that exact tune has this lyrics "to begin we must first see the end" in the song to the edge
Its funny how they named things differently for Elpis.. Spriggan is to Oreias, Axolotl is to Ambystoma.... And then we have... Shark. Just shark. Shark is to shark.
I find it interesting to see the different reaction to Endwalker. I was so excited to see how the story played out. To see how the threads came together I played through the MSQ all the way through. As soon as I got done with work I would play as much as I could every day to see more of it. So its interesting to see the other side of wanting to know the story but the stronger pull seems to be not wanting it to be over.
"Has your journey been good? Has it been worthwhile?" Hit like a truck bro, that part just break me , this is one of these game where can you destroy you in one second, and this happend in a mmo lol
During the table conversation when Emet is upset, it is because he knows you're telling the truth. Something about being able to read the soul and a natural lie detector.
I do actually feel a little better having watched you need to redo that fight a few times. I thought I was a decent RDM but I was swearing after she thrashed me in the add phase 🤣They made you earn that win! I, meanwhile, switched to Easy after the second loss because I stayed up super late rushing through MSQ because I was so invested ahaha. Certainly something to be said for taking your time! Glad you're feeling better.
3:45 This is the same point in Elpis where I just stopped doing the msq for two months because I didn't want it to be over... The ending is worth it, but damn if it could've lasted just a bit longer
I did the Venat duty as PLD and one shot, but still had to like really try hard. My brother who is a pretty good DRG failed repeatedly and had to play on easy. I think the DPS version of that duty is just overtuned. It seems unreasonably hard. Yes btw solo duties come in different stat flavors depending on role.
Two things: I had NEVER cried at a video game, until Venat asked if my journey had been good.... I fell apart and cried for 10 minutes until my room mate came in and asked "You good bro?".... second.... that Venat fight was torture.. for some god forsaken reason I did it was WHM.
Hey man, it sounded exactly like a mild anxiety attack. They can be similar to a panic attack, brought on by overstimulation, combined with how the story was making you vulnerable in front of your audience. I used to get them all the time. They’re weird and disturbing, nothing to be ashamed of though. Zepla had similar experiences going through the mindfuck MSQ on stream. You can take time off if you need, there’s always ways of treating it if it interferes with your life, otherwise you can learn breath work and do yoga, sleep more, stay hydrated, and practice proper nutrition to stop your body from redlining during stressful moments. I speak from 20 years of experience.
That fight is _hard,_ honestly. Mama don't play around. I failed at least once, and I was playing as Mr. TBN 😨 The biggest thing for me was not touching my AOEs. You need to clear as many as you can _quickly,_ not all of them at once. It's the opposite to how you're actually supposed to play almost anywhere else.
Venat test to ride the mount I did as paladin, & she nuked the hell out of me too the first time, second time I just popped all of my defences before she locked me down & it was a breeze. I also didn't let Venat receive the powerups at the end, stuns helped slow them, it was over a year ago, it could have been my third or fourth try, I think I walked away with zero damage because I popped Paladin hallowed ground last. Wish I could try it now to see how much better Paladin's burst damage is compared to then.
@@jtowensbyiii6018 if someone needs it to be easier, they have the option to nerf the fight themselves, maybe they nerfed the nerfed fights to be even easier?
