I bought some of these exact bags from Amazon (except in the half gallon size). Never did this before so should be fun. All my beans and rice are in the freezer now to kill any bugs. Was going to put 2-100cc absorbers into them. It's just me and my husband so I figured 1/2 gallon would be big enough. These seem to be very nice bags. I'm going to try sealing mine with a hair straightener that has a digital display of the temperature. I've seen these used often and they tend to be a lot easier than a standard iron.
Some larger bags are good you will be using the food stores as time goes by and replacing with fresh stock. Not to mention the barter potential of having beans someone else may have dried veggies to swap or canned meats maybe food for ammo
Thanks for the reminder. It is time for us to do it again. I have been waiting to build a cellar. We do not have the storage room in the RV. I paused this video to check what I had left in my 5 gallon bucket. I have my last two (4 cup) bags from July 2012.
Shalom! Thank you for the tutorial on food storage using mylar bags, oxygen absorbers and 5 gal. buckets. Pleasant Grow Farms puts out 7 ml. mylar bags and so I must order some of them. Thank you so kindly and blessings to you and yours!
Who else cringed when he did the second crimp on the first bag. I thought for sure it was folded over. I’m sure he knows better, but the wrinkles in the crimp sure make it seem unsealed.
Also would like to ask previous because I live in an apartment and I would store it under my bed , any advise ? And don’t have mice so I have plastic bins no gamma lids would it be garantes quality and long term durability, thanks
Our family just started prepping. We chose the same bags you demoed on this informative video. Thanks for the tips. I've heard of people using foodgrade desiccant packs also, with the oxygen absorbers, just can't put them close to one another, you think those would help? What if you took another step and vacuum sealed your beans, rice, pasta, etc. in the plastic foodgrade bags and then added a oxygen absorber to it, sealed it, and then sealed that in a mylar bag?
