Yessssuh love my pintos raised on them..my husband of 41 yrs now deceased never had pintos until 1976 wen we met and married i still cook n love my pintos!!
I'm from Texas, and my family was raised up eating pinto beans once a week. We always had cornbread, soft fried potatoes, hot salad, and some kind of greens and of course a chocolate layer cake. Mom said she loved that cake with beans. Our hot salad was, chopped jalapenos, chopped tomatoes, chopped onions with a vinegar and oil dressing and a touch of sugar. Mom always made ice tea. I'm homesick now, will have to wait and see them in Heaven. I'm 73 almost 74. I will cook that meal for my family next time we all get together. Love your channel and cooking.

O, The beans & ham hocks looks so delicious, my mouth is watering. Even though I only like the lean part of the ham hocks. So I will probably make mine with smoked turkey. It was 8 of us, including mom & dad. Money was tight sometimes, so mom cooked her beans with salt pork. Fried chicken, from the yard, and cornbread, sliced tomatoes, onions, with vinegar & sugar. It was delicious also. I think I will be cooking some pinto beans soon. Love u & Mr Tuck, & Brittney. (Flora, your 70+ subscriber)
Mrs. Mae Mae, this is what I grew up on, Pinto Beans, ham hocks, salt jowl bacon, chili seasoning, rice, cornbread, a butter cake with chocolate icing and Kool-Aide. Sometimes we had ground meat in it. You have brought back so many memories. God bless you and stay safe.
I love Pinto beans! I used to love to come home from school and smell my Mother cooking Pinto beans 😋 Now my children love them and love the smell! Love your cooking channel 😋

You have me reminiscing the many years cooking in the kitchen with Mudear & my late father. I miss my loved ones dearly. I love pinto beans served with white rice & a side of cornbread. May God continue to bless & keep you & family is my prayers.🙏 Mrs. Mae Mae, Keep the recipes coming!🧅🍖🫕 Much Love ❤️
Raised on pinto beans and hammocks; cornbread, something green by my mamaw. I still eat them but I substitute the hocks for smoked turkey necks, as I don’t eat pork.
I love red beans, pinto beans and lima beans. Cooked with ham pieces, onion, green bell peppers with a thick juice on them. So good. Those look delicious. I love your pot- beautiful.
yes please. I just tried making a big pan of homemade great northern beans with bacon and homemade sauce...it did not turn out well. I'm still embarrassed. Please help! Thanks Mae Mae and Tuck!
I love my beans with cornbread and hunks of raw onion sometimes I put mustard in them. I fix them pretty much the same as you and I like my liquid to be a lot so that my cornbread can soak it up plus sometimes I like to just drink the liquid.
I love your channel mother. I grew up eating black eyed peas & smoked ham hocks with cornbread. My mom was from Brundidge, AL R.I.P. God bless u & kp on teaching us😘
Your videos are just Wonderful. I have flashbacks to my Childhood in the early 1960's. The Ladies in my family like yourself put tremendous Love into their Food.
Thanks for sharing this nice comment and memories, it's a blessing when I have someone who can relate to endearing times of back in the days. Thanks for watching and God bless 💞🙏🏿
I am a Cook at Crossroads Ministries and we are a sober living facility, homeless shelter and we feed the community and i got asked by a few of our clients if we could cook ham hocks and beans so I used this recipe and cooked it for about 200 people and let me say it is the best recipe I have ever had for beans and ham hocks.
Lord Jesus, have mercy Mrs. Mae Mae.....those beans look *_AMAZING._* My mouth is watering even as I type this comment. You are a jewel for bringing back such glorious, precious memories of my great family life and the incomparable food that adorned our table during my childhood. I was raised by my grandparents with wonderful, delicious dishes just like this. In our household, a big pot of pinto beans like this with plenty of ham hocks, and either skillet baked cornbread, cornbread muffins or hot water cornbread, would be a whole meal, usually prepared for supper during a weeknight. Sometimes there would be fried chicken to go with it, or if we had company that night, a roast and other sides like candied yams, cabbage or okra gumbo. My grandfather was a Pastor so even through the week we often had guests around my grandmother's table to enjoy and partake of her legendary cooking. But when it was just us, a big pot of pinto beans (we called them "red beans") would do the job. Back then, she'd "pick" and soak them the night before, and put them on to simmer early the next morning to be ready for the evening meal...mmmmm! The aroma would light up the whole house. Of course there was always something for dessert, like cake, or pies or cobbler often left over from Sunday, or even ice cream. If not, a fresh dessert would be made. My granddad always wanted some dessert after supper regardless of it being a weekday or Sunday, and so to this day I still do too. Thanks for all you do to enhance the lives of so many of us who delight in watching you prepare such great food. The love and care you put into each dish, and the old fashioned culinary expertise you use for every meal is so wonderful, and brings much joy. You are in my prayers, and may God continue to bless you and your entire household and family....also, if the Lord tarries and blesses us to see this weekend *HAVE A HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!*
I love pinto beans, or any dried bean actually. They are so healthy too. Plus they're good protein too. Here in east Tennessee we call them soup beans. I was raised on them and, at 67 yrs old, I still make a pot of soup beans once a week. My son loves them too. We like eating ours with a skillet of cornbread and either fried taters and onions, or macaroni & cheese. They're a great meal that's delicious and cheap to make. (And delicious leftover too!)
I'm from east tn as well and me & everyone I know has grown up eating them. Corn bread, Fried potatoes, & Mac n' cheese have always been the go to side dishes for soup beans in my family... sometimes collard greens as well
Mae Mae I just love your videos! Good old fashioned food like it used to be..nothing fancy just good ole cookin! Love you and keep on inspiring us with your delicious recipes!! Omg! They look wonderful! Give me a bite!❤️❤️❤️❤️
You have me hungry over here. Yes, I’m going to try this recipe without the sugar and the pork. I have to eat more beans for iron, so I think I’ll try it with smoked turkey instead. Thanks for the recipe.

Thank You for sharing with us today. My Grandfolk are from Mississippi; very, very similar style. Making me some today, in my crockpot since it's so warm outside. I appreciate your demo. I let it play while I put my stuff on. I can tell its a ton of Love in your pots! ❤God Bless you and your family!
Miss Mae Mae I’m from Iowa and I love watching your videos. When I want some good southern cooking I’m going through your recipes. I’m making these tomorrow. Bless you for always sharing with us.
I eat them exactly like you do. Most of my extended family that has passed. They had a bowl of beans as a side dish as often as bread and butter I cook almost exactly like you do,Everything except the sugar. I will try it. My family is from Kentucky. When my parents where alive if it was Dad’s turn to make the beans, he used small pieces of salt pork. It was obviously salty and smoked bacon was tasty. These days it would not go over well with Most people. But I have to admit, the little pieces of salt pork. Instead of rice Mom made stewed potatoes. She would boiled russet potatoes until they started falling apart. She would then season and butter them as a side dish. Thank you for your time. Bobby
I just found your page and subscribed. My mom cooked her beans with ham hocks just like you. I don’t make them often but I do love them God bless you!❤️
Thank you ma'am your video was heart warming and I really appreciate you taking the opportunity to help us out your voice and present was truly a blessing to me may the good lord continue to bless you 🙏 ❤
Hello Mrs. Mae, my Mamma passed away last year of covid-19 and I sure miss her cooking, especially her pot of pinto beans, but now that I found your video on how to cook Good Old Fashion Pinto Beans just like my Mamma use to cook, I can now continue the tradition of making Pinto beans for years to come...... God Bless you Mrs. Mae
Hi, Ms. Mae Mae! I soak my beans overnight as well, but I do not rinse them...at least I usually don't. I will have to try that. I am sure that the sugar and bacon drippings added a ton of flavor. I added sugar to my lima beans, and it really enhance the flavor. I have never seen the vegetable seasoning, so I will have to look for that. Those beans turned out great. Like you said, those would be good with either rice or cornbread. Personally, it's hard to decide between cornbread or rice, but I think I prefer rice. I like my bean pot liquor to be maybe a bit thicker than what you had, but I would definitely take a bowl of those beans. Thanks for the great recipe!
Hey, Parnell I have always rinsed my beans, that's what I was taught.. plus it works out fine. I have forgotten to add sugar and bacon dripping before and the beans were still good.... but it was just not "It" for me😉 now thick pot liquor is just a negative for me hands down 😞 I got the salt free vegetable seasoning at Publix. Thanks for watching 💞🙏🏿😍
YUM YUM .THOSE PINTO BEANS LOOK DELICIOUS. ALL I WOULD NEED IS SOME CORNBREAD. I DO LIKE GREENS WITH PINTOS OR FRIED OKRA AND I LOVE FRIED POTATOES AND PINTOS. LOVE YOU
Ooouuuweeeee❣️ I knew when I was makin pinto beans today, I had to come to Mrs Mae Mae’s channel 🙌🏽🙌🏽those beans look absolutely amazing ‼️❣️ I like my pot liquor just the way you did yours, and Ima make mine they exact same way 🙌🏽🙌🏽 THANK YOU🥰😋❣️
Praying for you , Mr Tuck and everyone in the path of this storm🙏 I love beans with ham. Im not a fan of the flavor of the seasoning packet that comes with the beans . What is your preference to season them? Do you prefer smoked turkey? There is another RU-vid channel creator that posted a recipe last week that I was unfamiliar with. It was Jan Creson. She made a cornbread with bean and onion filling. I'm going to try it but with a couple of additions. I'd like to incorporate greens in the cornbread filling and creamed corn in the cornbread. I'll let you know how it turns out. Please stay safe and well ❤
