Puffy I'm a big fan!!! You need to come spin in Chicago. I want to witness the God of the turntables live. Pioneer should have had you demo this piece first!!!
I just got my Rev7 in a few days ago and it's an amazing machine. Is it pricey? Yes. But is it worth it? Absolutely! Everything I could've ever imagined in a controller.
LOVE the intro. I was gobsmacked too to see a motorised Pioneer platter. We really do need a standalone like the Prime 4 with spinning platters though. That would be enough to pry me from my SC6000ms.
Really interesting device! Didn't think I would see the day that Pioneer would go down this route in terms of controller/ device but now adds a good alternative option into their line up!
Fantastic review! I'm a big fan of the hardware/software effects you love as well. As an old school turntablist who prefers DVS, I was strongly considering picking up a RANE ONE this year, but now that this monster has dropped, I may have to cop the DDJ-REV7 instead. Thanks, Mojaxx!
Im a NS7 user since day 1 at 2009. At the beginning all my dj friends laugh because I was not Pioneer… I just loved the NS7. From small gigs to EDC I don’t care I just loved the Ns7. Well guess what? Pioneer just made a “NS7” and its 2022. 🤣 Funny how pioneer has been adopting NS7 tech… from 8 pads to motorize turntables.
Dude, you are a f*cken beast!!! I watched 3 other videos on this rev 7 controller, and none even came close to how informative and just answering and addressing every question and curiosity anybody would have before deciding to purchase, YOU SOLD ME BROTHA!!! Pioneer should definitely be giving you a cut!! Thanks again my brotha
Yes because of your honesty it’s the reason why when you reviewed the new mock scratch mixer I went out and bought one immediately so that’s why I look forward to your reviews every time all the time
yeah, that's all of our story! The SRT is beautiful, I bought the SRZ, which I love because it's a stand alone, but want to get this one for the motorized platters....gives me that ole school feel of my 1200's that i've been missing without the needle breaks and skipping.
Excellent job by Pioneer! They did the one thing that made Pioneer a non-starter for me... spinning platters. The screens in center of platters is a neat implementation. I can see some who may opt for this for the hardware effects, but it's not much of a big deal for me... personally. I'll be sticking with my Rane One, but I wouldn't mind getting behind this unit from time-to-time.
With reverse/sensor in serato, you need to set a cue point, as when you go into reverse mode the track continues when you are reversing, so when you finish a reverse blend, hit the cue point to where you want to jump to, or you'll end up anywhere
Mo, great job...You nailed this review. I watched every second of it and learned a couple of things. I received my REV7 a couple of weeks ago. Thanks again!
Nice unit, but I have Numark (NS7's) and when I was looking for a new controller I went with the Denon Prime 4 because it's a true standalone and I no longer have to depend on a laptop or Serarto. I've learned to appreciate the freedom of carrying less and doing more. Very good review as always.
Thank you for having a review up so quick 🙌🏿. This unit looks good! The price is the only thing against it. I def use the censor for live censoring but usually only on older 90’s hip hop songs that aren’t marked dirty or clean. If I’m not sure of the song or once I hear one curse word my finger is hovering over it and I’m reading lyrics on my phone 😂
i'd give them 5 years max before they start having problems. My 2 X Technics SL-1200's are 22 years old and i can guarantee they will still outlast this controller lol
Ridiculous there is no Rekordbox support. Yes it had a rough start early on, but it is pretty solid these days. DDJ-1000 still the top-selling controller of the past few years.
I thought I was having a weird dream when I saw the ad for the new rev controllers! Did not expect it! Interesting to watch this review without the word ‘Rane’ get mentioned at any point… but it looks like this could be a serious competitor compared to when pioneer have tried going against Denon’s standalone units!
ok after years and years of me hating on static jogs and even buying Denon cdjs instead because they had spinning platters and then buying the Rane 12 mk2s ,why ?you guessed it Pioneer finally come out with spinning platters. This thing is a beast
I noticed on Cleveland Terry's review that he briefly flashed up the DJ City TV logo on his Rev 7, lol. I'm guessing he got your original review unit from you. Nice video Mojaxx and this will be the controller to beat unless you want CDJs, real vinyl, 4 decks or open format options
Nah, he plays tracks from DJcity, which all have the DJcity logo as the track artwork. That was my idea to implement that a few years ago, actually, haha.
Just on the CENSOR function, I do use that in my sets! Mine isnt a reverse though, I have the Denon MC7000 but dont use Serato so I've got a variation on the JWiLL Denon mapping for Traktor, and when you press the Censor button, he wrote a macro into it that dips the volume to half and the low pass filter to 3/4. Sounds great - I use it at weddings if there are kids there in the earlier part of the evening and there's a really obvious swear word in a track which I dont feel comfortable playing
To answer a brief question in this vid regarding the loop slicer mode: I use them on my Denon standalone players. However, in this video you had a standard house percussion loop going, which does not create very interesting results. I mostly use this for vocal loops or other melodic content… taking a set phrase and instantly mimicking the process of loading a sample into maschine, entering slice mode, and then triggering/flipping the sample in a mangled/new way. It can be useful, but I imagine for lots of people it isn’t necessary/valuable. Thanks for the great video!
👍🏽thumbs up for mentioning the technics DZ 1200. I’ve commented on others platform because they kept mentioning how innovating pioneer was. I loved the technics because the motor they used was the same thing they used in the there cdj’s. But back to pioneer. I think the Rev 7 def looks dope but Im a stickler for built quality. Im interested to see what Rane comes out with. Def like there built quality better. Some one compared the sound quality from the Rev 7 against the Rane 1 and there was def a difference as we know pioneer’s pre amps aren’t the best. But the Rev 7 by far is the best sounding equipment they put out.
Mojaxx, I'm not necessarily a fan of controllers, but this one got my attention. I'm glad it was reviewed by someone objective who has a background on previous setups like CDJs that used CDs and analogue turntables. The price is rather steep, but I would still consider it. Your equipment reviews are always legit, thank you very much! Love from Nairobi! #DjShockAfrica
I learned on 1200's. I used controllers but these are different and that physical touch that I have always wanted is there with modern effects. I like the Rane as it's already been mapped for VDJ which is what I use. I am sure the Pioneer will be soon. Either one works for me.
This was a great review, as usual. I ordered it in late January, and was informed that I should get mine later this week. Me and my DJ crew have been using the S9 mixer for several years, so having the REV7 will really feel like I’m right at home and then some. I can’t wait!
I feel that your content is honest and unbiased. I love the features and the specs look impressive, but the platter itself has me somewhat skeptical. I'm sure it will work fine and can be fine-tuned with a little tweaking, but I'm concerned about the durability of the plastic notches that connect with the motor underneath. Looks like they could snap off with little effort. Die-cast aluminum has always been my comfort zone for any spinning platters. Everything else looks REVolutionary. Just the same... I hope Rane answers this challenge! Great review
I love how they set up the display in the jogs like that. I hope the next DDJ-1000 switches to this. Maybe even with the option to change to horizontal wave forms to.
Damn, need to have a go on the platters but otherwise i'm sold. (Rane must be thinking hard on an mk2 now) Like the new format and the intro (😏🤣) great review as always 🙌🏻
This looks great! I'm a fan of the stand-alone Prime Series Denon hardware right now, but I'm interested in what this controller might mean for the next generation of Pioneer CDJs.
i dont think they would change cdj4000s/cdj3000nxs to spinning platters, maybe a completely different model multi-player. many people including myself have gotten accustomed to the static platter and would be up in arms about a change
Thanks for the dope review Mojaxx. I was excited to see it in action and it looks clean. Got me looking at my Rane One funny. That price tag is nice tho $ 🤑
Dope review! Was thinking of waiting until NAMM but just preordered it hopefully its not much of a long wait. I really hope pioneer lets us load custom scratch samples in the hardware.
This review was very helpful. I did find out something on the Rev 7 that was very helpful. Since there is no needle search option. If you want to return to the beginning of the track without going to your laptop or rewind by hand.If you hold the shift button down in the middle of the song, and spin the platters backwards,it will allow you to return to the beginning of the track pretty quickly. Alot faster that way!
Amazing package of features. even if you ignore the moving platters, the mixer design that mimics the DDJ-S7/9/11 and the rest of the hardware dedicated buttons is brilliant. I have an older controller that I use mainly for mobile gigs which makes setup and travel efficient and convenient. However I love my DDJ-S7 and because I wanted to be able to use its features I was about to pull the trigger on a pair of RaneTwelves for mobile gigs, but was dreading the decision because of having to carry bigger equipment... now they release this monster and I'm back on the fence. The price point is the only thing i find as a con. for the price I could buy the RaneTwelves and use my ddjs7. I also have to wonder if Pioneer has another trick up their sleeve ... perhaps they have a RaneTwelve equivalent in the near future considering its popularity
The thumbnail just screams ”PRO DJ REVIEWS A PIONEER DJ CONTROLLER WITH A SPINNING PLATTER”-energy. 😆 But granted, that was a great review of the new REV-controller.
So our company sold our Rane One this week and got on the list for the REV 7. It was after a lot of deliberation on features and ease of use. Coming from a strong Pioneer background we figured this was the right move, and obviously an upgrade. I have used the censor / reverse button at school dances if i know the track is filthy.. sometimes I even do it with clean versions.
Excellent Review Chris ! What a piece of kit , we’ve all been waiting for Pioneer to Smash Denon back and here it is and we know there will bring stand alone units out and we can have a proper successor to the CDJ-2000 NX2 … it’s coming you know it !! 🙌🏻❤️
Great review. This is a GAMECHANGER !!! Granted Technics, Denon, and Numark made moving platters over the past 30 years. But one with displays in the platter AWESOME. I'm big on 4 deck mixing, Pioneer ddj1000's and the Denon Prime 4 , but as with the Numark NS7 that love of turntablism on a controller is a throwback to the 1200 days from the 1980's. The design is incredible that Magvel fader 🥋, the only thing missing is the cue for the sampler like on the ddj 1000's but that is not a big issue. I made a spot in my lab for this and I will be mixing, scratching, and blending with time left only for eating, and work. Str8 Zombie DJ Style !!!
Take my money already! This is the exact reason I never even thought about buying a Rane One. I told everyone who was so hype about it, I'll wait until Pioneer comes out with their version it's going to be way better and I was right! Can't wait to try one out in real life!
@@scupakus you must have not used the Rane One? It’s ok at best. The effects alone make this Pioneer unit better. The layout makes way more sense. This feels more like a mix between users who have been familiar with an S9 and CDJs and S9 with TTs. I’m sold on it.
@@danizm78 either way I won’t be interested in it. Having started out on Rane Mixers and since moving on to Pioneer DJ stuff I’ll never go back. Plus I’ve rarely seen and Radio Stations, Bars, Lounges or Clubs use any Rane gear unless it was a more low budget spot that just cared about having gear for the DJs there.
Let's not act like Numark NS7 didn't do this first. 💯 Can't wait to see if Numark will respond. But the displays in the middle definitely takes it to the next level. But let's not also act like Numark didn't do this with their Ns6II as well. 🤣
Pioneer fanboys like to distort history. For example Denon was the first to implement spinning platters with the Denon DJ DN-S5000 ages ago. I think DJ City owes it to us to do a documentary on the history of DJ technology
But why doesn't it work with Pioneer Rekordbox DJ.......like......their own DJ software? That software should be free with this unit so you can use it straight out the box. What a face plant that is. But great review Mojaxx
@@DJTechnoboom If I was the CEO of Pionner then EVRY SINGLE Pioneer product would have access to Rekordbox. You're right in saying most scratch DJ's don't use it. But again - if I was CEO I would be asking why don't they use it? And what chance do we have of them ever switching from Serato to Rekordbox - OUR OWN DJ SOFTWARE - when we don't even give it to them for free with a £2000 product that designed SPECIFICALLY to work on that type of software? It's just makes no financial sense for them to do this.
@@bendybenbenderson i always had rekordbox my first DJ controller was the DDJ-RB it came with rekordbox license I never had to pay for it. And I still use my DDJ-RB sometimes it's awesome basically a DDJ-400 just older model. But you really only need rekordbox for exporting your playlists to the CDJ's if you don't use CDJs then you aren't missing out on much. Idk why everyone likes serato so much but that just how it is. I think serato came out first maybe that why?
@@DJTechnoboom Yeah Rekordbox is just a library for CDJ/XDJ use as you say, but Rekordbox DJ should be trying to win over all the Serato/Traktor users. So just seems crazy that a £2000 controller designed by Pioneer doesn't come with full Pioneer Rekordbox DJ for free as standard, to try & get those Serato/Traktor users switching over. Just makes no business sense. But for Serato DVS users this is an awesome product to upgrade to.
@@bendybenbenderson adding record box to every piece of gear won’t make it any better than it is. And many not use relied box because it is what it is and it works how it works.
Awesome review as always. Thanks for your hard work. I do use the censor button on my DDJ-SZ live. Sometimes I have the lyrics pulled up on my phone so I know when to censor. I have missed the bad word before. Oh well I like that button.
The only thing I REALLY don't like about this instant scratch button is where it's placed. If you're reaching for the auto-loop and hit instant scratch you could look like a right fool. Hope Pioneer adds a "must hold shift to enable" feature for it,
