Wow, this worked for me. I had the same problem, except my SC-71 would output audio from the tuner and component in, but not from any of the hdmi sources. I was about to buy a new receiver when I found this video and I couldn't believe simply unplugging it would fix the issue, but it did. Thanks very much, whoever made the video.
Herd alum , Im glad it helped. I spent weeks on the phone with technicians at Pioneer, who were nice, but in the end were unable to fix this problem. I am just stuck it, ufortunately...
Herd alum, correct. I periodically have to unplug it and replug power to get audio signal back. No solution was ever found, at least by myself and Pioneer... thoughts?
King, yes, you should get Pioneer to replace it. I have two Pioneer AV receivers, and my SC-71 is four years old, so obviously not in warranty. But I had this same exact problem with my other Pioneer model while it was still in warranty, and I sent to the authorized service center like you did, but they just said they couldn't fix it, and Pioneer sent me a new receiver, which was actually a step up from the one that went bad. I think you definitely should demand Pioneer replace yours. If they don't, they are refusing to honor their warranty obligation, in my opinion. But, otherwise, I have no idea how to actually fix it, and want to thank you again for your help.
I have a Pioneer SC-1527 (same unit as ELITE 65) and an RX-V377. Both have the "no sound" issue. Another "fix" I've seen is by using a small MR16 type halogen ceiling bulb over the Texas Instruments DTS chip on the circuit board (it's clearly labelled) for a few minutes. Allegedly, heating this chip up restores function for some time (one user had his function for 3 more years afterwards) also was suggested you find a small heatsink and apply thermal paste + heatsink on chip afterwards to extend life. (or rig up some kind of fan)
Thanks for the video! I have sc 801 receiver and am going through the exact same issue right now. Frustrating and bummed ! I've tried your trick by unplugging and plugging but no such luck. Don't know what to do at this point. I'll read your responses and hopefully there is a solution.
Unfortunately, I don't think there is a great fix for this especially since who whole main board was replaced and the issue persisted. I actually still have this SC-71, but now the remote barely responds to inputs (even with new batteries). It might be time to retire this generation of Pioneer units seeing that this issue is more widespread than initially thought. Good luck!
@@KingAcquisitions ugh ...not the news I wanted to hear. Thanks for your response! Little more research before I throw in the towel. I'm wondering if it could be bad firmware update. If I come up with something, I'll let you know. Thanks again!
@@rv4854 I actually connected my SC-71 to ethernet today and despite getting an IP address it was unable to pull down any updates. It came back with "network error" even after a power cycle. Not a good omen...
it sucks you save your money for the big toys and then they don't work 100%. ask for replacement or super discount on the next model up trade in that one in. good luck
Use it for a boat anchor! Pioneer has unfortunately Fallen prey to the "build-it cheap" mentality. My old Elite vsx-56txi is still running strong, however the Elite sc-25 is now a super heavy duty paper weight even though it's much newer. I would check into other brands, check out emotiva. Their preamps and amps are Rock Solid for about the same amount of money.
I have a complaint at Pioneer, they know there are lots of models with this problem and with these chips, but mine was from 2011, and it wasn't until 2021 that it stopped working completely. However, I had to do the same thing, unplug it and plug it back in. Now that the warranty has passed they don't want to replace the board that already has the new texas chips.
It's not only Pioneer that has that problem Onkyo similar problem it's something to do with the HDMI circuitry something in it is he overheating and then when you unplug it the power goes off and you plug it back in at pops back in for a little while and then when you leave your in overnight and you go to turn it on the next day because you left it plugged in it will not work again it's something going on between the power circuit and the HDMI
Same problem, but I've had my pioneer elite for 20 years. VSX-45TX and I used the phuck out of it. Mine past few months started this, speaker icons disappear thing and obviously no audio while they vanish, but they also flicker on and off and level out and repeat. Also lots of static or popping coming out of speakers when nothing connected for audio like my Samsung TV is powered on. Also less popping and static while TV is on amd during the times the speaker icons are displayed and audio is coming out of speakers.
NOV 2021 UPDATE AND THOUGHTS: I plugged in the SC-71 to ethernet and tried to pull down a software/firmware update and it came back with "network error", despite getting a valid IP address and a full power cycle. I tested and that ethernet works perfectly with other devices, so the problem is almost certainly the receiver, or even worse, Pioneer. I think the problem is Pioneer (or Onkyo, more on this below) is no longer issuing updates for this device. If I remember correctly, Pioneer sold off their home receiver business to Onkyo around 2016 and neither have been particularly concerned about supporting the pre-deal products and thus have seemed to shut down the service that pushes out updates and such for these models. I tried getting downloading updates directly on the Pioneer electronics website and also the Onkyo website, but the only thing I could fine anywhere was a PDF manual for the SC-71. I am not sure any updates are needed (aside from one to fix the obvious issue in the above video), but it would be nice if they rolled some kind of little thing out considering this was part of their flagship line of products. Also, despite the remote control being visibly in excellent shape with little to no wear, the buttons have stopped registering inputs unless they are jammed in numerous times with heavy force, so essentially volume and input changes must be done manually on the unit itself. I am going to try to order a new remote off eBay and see if that fixes things. THOUGHTS: It certainly seems Pioneer/Onkyo have moved on from this generation of products despite them not exactly being that old (~6 years?). However, after thinking it over, I believe this is still a great receiver even as we approach 2022. For context, this SC-71 still supports full 4K passthrough (though no Dolby Vision or HDR+), all uncompressed audio formats aside from Dolby Atmos, ARC, 4K upscaling from non 4K sources and overall excellent sound processing. These seem to be the vast majority of features any AV-phile like me regularly uses, so if we can keep the remote control working and can just accept the intermittent audio-off issue and quick fix as noted in the above video, I think this generation of Pioneer products actually still have life ahead. For those who want the Dolby Vision, HDR+ or gaming features such as ALL, just run those sources directly to the display and ARC the audio out to the SC-71 HDMI-OUT output; problem solved. Post back with your thoughts, I would like to hear them! -Kingacquisitions
I just got this receiver it sounds amazing but it got sent with the remote and the remote does not work even though it looks in Immaculate condition, when I first plugged it in I had the 5.1 going Center speakers left and right and Sub on, I started to listen to music on RU-vid and some how the speakers switched over to just the left and right with the subwoofer "stereo" my problem is I can't switch it back, I can't get the surround sound or the center speaker to go on again, but when I do a test they all work just fine, do you think it's because I need a working remote to be able to switch through those settings because I can't find it on the receiver menu anywhere, thanks for sharing any advice would help.
My remote did the same thing. Just take out the 4 screws on the remote and pry apart the top from the bottom. Clean the button contacts and the board contacts with a cloth. Reassemble and that seems to fix it. Give it a try. Note, prying the remote apart is difficult. I used a flat screwdriver, but it did slightly bend the plastic. Not a huge deal.
I have a newer bought in 2017 SCLX 901 UK model class D and have had zero issues. Lucky perhaps. Denon have also had issues with hdmi and Sounds United who now own these brands arent a hifi company. I think next time I may get a Yamaha for peace of mind lol
I've had several problems with my SC-65. First there was a manufacturing defect that I had to send in for repairs. They wanted ME to pay for the shipping to repair THEIR defective product. (Which is expensive on an item this large and heavy.) I did fight them on it and won, so ultimately they paid the shipping. But I couldn't believe they wanted me to incur a cost of hundreds of dollars to repair a defective product that was their fault. Now I get static out of all channels for the first 5 minutes or so after turning on. Nothing fixes is. I've switched inputs, turned off/on, even unplugged. Nothing seems to work except just sitting there and waiting 5-10 minutes until it stops. Not acceptable for an item of this cost. I will never buy Pioneer again. Not ever. I should never have replaced my Denon with this garbage.
Turn power off wait a sec and the hold both the power button and the enter button behind the door at the same time. Then select yes and reset the receiver
“I NEED HELP” I have an SC 71 receiver I did the test and all my speakers and it came out perfect but now when I put on TV, DVD, or anything I’m not getting sound out of my back speakers just stereo what am I doing wrong? I need some help guys.
I'm having the same issue that you are having, where you able to fix the problem? It's stuck on stereo and I can't get back to my 5.1 surround sound, I don't have a working remote and I can't find it on the menu on the receiver anywhere nowhere 😫
I just picked up the SC-55 off buy & sell without testing it (dumb I know). Everything works but sound, the power trick did nothing, can't find anything solid online..
Guys do not buy Pioneer my malfunctioned because of Chips with factory defect and now Pioneer does not want to repair. The technical assistance is terrible, any receiver beyond the Elite Pioneer work better. Any sony, yamaha, denon is better. This is my opinion...
@@robrobski9445 No components get power from receiver. All power goes through Belkin PureAV Power Conditioning unit (power strip) I tried without the power conditioner going straight to wall, no change in results.
i guess Im randomly asking but does anyone know a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
I have the same problem with lx75 and no audio, there is the same problem with defect TI CHIS D810K013DZKB4. They can switch the board, if the chips was the D810K013DZKB4 the problem only gets worse. To me they want 680 dolars its to mutch. Sell and buy a DENON or SONY or YAMAHA.
I have the same model but only hdmi connected to Directv is working. Other devices connected to Pioneer SC71 aside from Directv are not working. Any advice
Mikey Richardi, can you please try to give details on what exactly is happening when it freezes? Also, what exactly happens when you pull the power and plug it back in?
Unplug does nothing. It just sits n never changes once on the ok. I have to unplug to get it back to main screen. But can't get hdmi to come back. Happened before n I got it working again but not this time.
Mikey Richardi, unplugging power from the receiver does nothing(!)? I think you may be pulling the wrong cable. The unit literally can't function without power. The power cable is at the top right if looking at the unit from the back. Please let us know what happens.
