Like both Aba and Preach said, 2 things can be true. There are a lot of people that claim they care about fat people's health when they really only care about people looking more socially acceptable because fatness has always been deemed as unattractive and disgusting.

@@DamienYuen7718 Of course nobody is deliberately saying "I want these people to not be fat because they don't fit the social norm". Nobody is going to flat out say they hate ugly people either. I've grown up around fat people and we've all trashed them. Saying "I'm going to get on fat people because I care about their health", is just a politically correct way of saying "lose some weight fatass, you look disgusting". It has nothing to do with caring about anyone's health unless we're talking about relatives that we want to keep around. We have a standard of beauty and most fat people don't fit into that, unless they're the acceptable type.

Yea, most gyms I have gone to over the years here locally (pretty rural area, so there isn’t always packed gyms) has been extremely accommodating and welcoming to anyone coming in that’s overweight just as they were helpful to me when I came in extremely underweight at 105. It can feel intimidating at first, but once you get to know most there, you start to understand we’ve all got our own issues and we’re all trying to do what we can to be healthier. Like I went one time and there was a girl who was extremely buff … she talked about weighing 370 and started going to that gym and is at 200, but is real toned. She power-lifts and even helps other women going there who want to try. She talked about how she had times where she wanted to quit because nothing seemed like it was working, and some of the guys there at the gym gave her a meal plan and she was able to lose weight while still putting on muscle. I’ll always welcome anyone at a gym. Just as long as you’re not sitting there filming yourself the whole time and getting more worked up over someone in your shot more so than getting worked up over your workout, then you’ll be fine at most gyms … and I hope anyone that is overweight that is looking to go to one knows that the majority are not there to pick on you or mock you. Trust me, we’ve got our own flaws to obsess over at times. If you go a gym and there’s people there who stare and laugh and they don’t get called out for it, leave. No gym is worth your money if they don’t call that shit out.

Heart disease is the number one leading cause of death for Americans. (Cancer is 2nd) That's not accounting for other leading causes of death that correlate with unhealthy eating habits such as strokes and diabetes. Now you don't have to be heavy set to die of these conditions however it has been proven that a heavy set person would be at greater risk for these diseases and less healthy than the same person would be if they lost just a few pounds. However we do often eliminate them from our dating choices and/or say mean things simply because we find visual cues of unhealthiness unattractive. It's actually related to us subconsciously seeking out partners with more desirable genes to pass on to our offspring (even if we don't want to have kids). This goes for a lot of people with less treatable disabilities too. It's kinda cooked into our DNA.

The muscles that need to be worked (such as in the low back) are covered in adipose tissue. I also have to stand on my tip toes (sometimes for 2 hours) and contort my hands unnaturally just to cover the whole area. Then refer them to a good dietician and tell them to come back once they're massageable again, maybe sprinkle in they probably won't because their problems will most likely be gone with the blubber.

So there is definitely a benefit to helping overweight people feel more confident, but confidence can be gained without denying reality. Nearly everyone I know who has struggled with weight the core issue was not the obesity but self esteem issues, depression and motivational issues, we can argue about chicken and the egg but generally when you deal with the underlying mental health crisis usually the weight reduces. Denying there is an issue, denying there is real longterm consequences, denying science and medical knowledge is beyond a joke, you help no one by just denying there is an issue. You need to acknowledge the issue, find the underlying cause, and then work with that person to rebuild their image of who they could be.

At 5'7 (woman), between the ages of 25-36 I went from being overweight to Morbidly Obese (BMI @ 50%) with my highest weight peaking at 332 lbs. My labs were all off the charts (i.e., hypertension, diabetes, etc.); however, I disregarded all of that because the whole Fat Acceptance Movement was 'in' as I continued "doing me." It wasn't until I was dropping my then 6 yr old son off at school one day, and right before he gets out of the car, he turns to me and say, "Mommy, I think you're getting bigger because you keep eating food and I don't want you to 'pop' (lol) and die." The look of distress on his little face when he told me that was heartbreaking and that's when I knew I had to change. Needless to say, he is now 10 and I'm down to 185 lbs. While I still have roughly 30 lbs more to lose, I can't tell you how much of a difference losing the weight did for my overall health & quality of life. 💫

I’ll NEVER condone bullying someone over their weight, but I especially won’t condone supporting an obese lifestyle. Like someone above me said, walking is free. That shit’s so easy.

I really don't understand why it has become a trend to berate others for wanting to live a more healthier lifestyle, when these are the same exact people who will complain about the same thing happening in turn when it comes to personal trainers. Just as you don't want to be belittled for being overweight, people also don't want to be belittled for also wanting to lose weight. Or maybe I just go to the gym regularly, so I must hate fat people. I don't know.

That's when the hate messages started, and it wasn't until i started finding irl friends and putting myself out there did I realize that my reddit "friends" were insecure people just wanting others to join them in their miserable little corner rather than working on improving themselves. No matter what, working on yourself and improving is never a bad thing, and while I don’t condone outwardly bullying bigger people, saying things like "healthy in every size" and "all bodies are healthy" are just objectively wrong and they should never romanticize unhealthy eating lifestyle and eating habits and obesity

At first it was fun to sit around talking about deep lore shit, and everyone was always talking about fighting toxicity in the fanbase and "the fandom menace" who hate Star Wars for 'no reason,' I finally get around to watching the new Star Wars shows and they were absolutely terrible, I voice my complaints about the nonsense plot and character assassinations and suddenly I'm being called all sorts of names by the "anti-toxic" people and I'm part of "the fandom menace" (which is really just a collection of extremely different people with nothing in common except criticizing Star Wars a few times).

The fact that he still can do some things keeps him barely alive. Now imagine him being severly overweight. When you check carefully, you see that's also the cause for the high mortality rate of black women in child bearing. Yes, there is an effect of racism in the medical industry, but a normal healthy pregnancy should not require major medical intervention in the first place...a midwife should be able to handle it. The question is: Why are black women not having normal healthy pregnancies that don't require major medical intervention? The answer is: Obesity.

100%! I am a disabled woman and I have fought through freakin hell to be able to walk again and be a part of society. I can’t go to the gym like some of you can. I have to watch what I eat and try to bring movement in when I can and on the level that I can, otherwise I will be paralyzed again. I’m plus-size yes, but I never weight over 220 and my family has the getting fat gene. 220 was the max I got to when I was paralyzed and couldn’t sit up for more than 20 minutes. Even then I watched my health. Don’t you dare to use disability to make your point when it’s convenient. Unless you go through that yourself, don’t mention us at all. Because I can tell you for freakin sure that when you lose control of your body, you will do everything to get that back. Everything. And I didn’t get sick because I was plus-sized. I got bigger because I got sick. I have a neurological condition similar to MS and Clarksons disease which makes you literally swell up with fluid. It’s life threatening actually and freakin scary and there is almost nothing that I can do about that, except take medicine and pray it doesn’t get to that place. I’m doing everything I can to work on my health to get that down again now I’m able to walk again. And the fact that some of these people use disability and health problems in such a casual way… that really is fucked up. The fact that you want to be 400 pounds does not mean you get to use us as a shield to excuse yourself. Being obese is your decision. These people are so ignorant… it baffles me. But until they feel what it’s like to not be able to depend on your body to get you places, they won’t care. But I’m indeed done with disabled people being used. Thank you Aba!

I was dealing with some health troubles, but know that I see you! Know that you are not alone in this fight! No matter how ugly it gets sometimes, i know… You are not alone. In addition: So many people will never understand what you and I go through. What we and many others like us have to do to just be able to do the normal things. Walking up the stairs feels like I have already walked up at least 10. Yet I get up, do my thing and even managed to get back into college this year. My doctors told me in 2016 that I was done. I would never be able to work again and would be sitting on disability checks for the rest of my life. I was paralyzed in both legs and bound to a wheelchair in agony every day. I’m 28 now btw. I sure as hell showed them 🤣. I did not accept that that was the end. The truth is, I might not be able to finish. I might lose more function permanently, but that fire inside that keeps you going is stronger than anyone can predict. Don’t let anyone tell you what you can and cannot do. You are the one who can set those boundaries or decide to cross them. In this day and age, the options have become much more achievable. Even if my body fails me tomorrow and I do end up back in that wheelchair, I can still accomplish a lot of things. It will be hard, but with adjustment it can be done. You have more power than you think. Just know that and carry it with you if you ever are ready to use that power. For now, you are already absolutely killing it! Trust me on that! So I figured, I could be fat and depressed, or just depressed. Life is all about picking the prison you can most tolerate. You could be imprisoned in a failing body that nobody wants to look at, with the "freedom" to eat whatever you want. Or you can be imprisoned by a regular healthy routine. You can't have a healthy mind with a failing body. It's hard to dream and hope when simple motion and endurance is out of the question. Most of your hormones are regulated by your fat and gut cells, when you're too fat, those cells mess with your head. It's not vanity it's chemistry. Start with your body. When I got my weight under control, my mind naturally improved along with it. Btw check out "Atomic Habits" by James Clear. Laziness and procrastination are a human's default settings. Willpower is a finite thing per day. You don't get things done by eliminating your laziness. You get things done by harnessing and working with it. When you're depressed, it's easy to get distracted on what you can and can't _feel._ Focus on what you can and can't _do._ Feelings won't be very helpful guides till your frontal lobe grows in. And for your suicidal thoughts, try "The Myth Of Sisyphus" by Albert Camus. Sisyphus was a bad MF. It's a tough read, but worth it.

I'm sure those girls who grew up regret taking her stance & wish they took their health seriously before the health problems & wasting their prime years being obese and struggling to lose weight in their 40s, 50s etc.

I remember getting cussed out because I brought that up when she did a body reveal after she initially dropped weight. Folks wanted to say people are allowed to change. Which is true but she refused to acknowledge how she behaved, what she excused and encouraged. That’s my issue. Sure, grow and change. You’re supposed to. But part of that growth is acknowledging where you were wrong.

Aba n Preach, I’m physically disabled from a genetic disease and can’t work. I’m in pain head to toe 24/7. I’m 30, and can’t remember a time of no pain. I grew up skinny. In high school to 26 I weighed only 115 pounds. Overweight people gave me so much crap about being skinny, and saying because I’m skinny I must hate fat people. I have no gained weight and now I’m 155 pounds. I no longer look like a skeleton. I hate people using disabled people as a fing shield! It pisses me off. I’ve lost great friends to being overweight. So please stop using us disabled people to protect themselves. Also, I take opioids for pain. I take Percocet and methadone and also Klonopin to keep pain in check, but I have had to deal with the opioid crisis making life harder for me, because I need the meds to just kinda have a little less pain.

I am a Nutrition and Exercise Science major. I’m currently a Jr in college. And the amount of disease and risks you have from being overweight alone, let alone obese, is crazy and people ignore the signs until it’s too late. They’re more likely to die early, heart problems, diabetes, you name it. What makes it worse is that they are all preventable for the most part. And people just hate to actually work for a healthy lifestyle if they don’t have a fast metabolism. It’s terrible.

I'm 6'7, after graduating college and not playing basketball anymore I stopped working out and ate and drank like crazy cuz it was the pandemic when i left. I went from 230 lbs to 290 lbs and lemme tell you. I was 23 years old when i reached that 290 peak and I felt like shit. I couldn't sleep, I had GERD, and looking at myself in the mirror just made me depressed. It's a year now and i'm back down to 260 with just simple dieting and not drinking. I'm a start working out again but I can attest that obesity is not laughing matter at all.

Let's go baby, I'm 6'1 and went from 230 to 285. I'm sure you hold the weight better than I do because of your height, but last time I weighed myself I was down to 275. 250 is my goal for now and then I'll move the goalposts once I'm close. I have the same shit, I would glance at the mirror because I didn't like looking too long. I would look at my old photos and go "Goddamn I was good looking, I should've taken advantage of that more with the ladies" but I'm working out and even though my diet isn't perfect, I'm cooking all but 2-3 meals a week for myself and taking it 1 month at a time. I'll assume you're like me and hate running so if I can offer some advice, I'll say combat sports are a great way to get fit and have fun instead of running in a straight line looking at nothing.

I am 5 foot 3 and I was 240 pounds in 2017. Even being 100 pounds overweight had started killing my health that year, I spent most of my time indoors, and half of that crying for the pain my body was going through. I don't think I was respectable either, as I wasn't respecting myself to begin with. I got gastric sleeve surgery and lost 100 pounds. gained 20 back and I'm maintaining that 80 pound loss for 5 years now. if I gain even the least bit of weight that I see lowers my mood, I take care of things. I promised myself I will spend the rest of my life maintaining the new person I am now. I wish every people with the same goal to make it their reality. I'm thankful that I'm healthy.

My therapist says loosing weight is easiert than maintaining it I lost 90, holding it pretty good. Still loosing a bit. 1 pound every 3 months I havnt found my new normal yet. Dont wanna Slip into being too thin. Im trying to cut and bulk. 💪💪💪 bulking is way harder than loosing weight. That was kinda easy

Also just want to say this heavier weight on a shorter frame is more noticeable and it manages different than if the person who is taller has the same weight so it's more difficult to move when you shorter with the weight.

I have a friend over their in the the states that also got gasttic sleeve and. Lost like 150… but i think they have it back. Ergo proof it is Not so easy to maintain. Ergo much much respect for the struggle and the W in maintaining 5 years and counting Keep up the good fight, i hope its fun. Coz thats the trick so motivation Discipline is a finite resource, but fun is endless. Overcoming and discipline eventually run out and need refilling but fun. You can just maintain endlessly for me that was the biggest W in the process and the time after that, the last two years, it’s just fun to eat healthier to be more mobile to look in the mirror. It’s just fun and and us. It’s almost no effort at all. Almost, a little bit of discipline is needed. Atleast to remember why and get that motivation back. But its not a serious or frequent thing The bulking that takes effort and discipline, and on days I don’t feel like it Much strength and power and discipline and fun to us both 🙋‍♀️

Its a damn shame how some peoples mindset is to blame it on something else and to never accept fault. My step brother was born with low functioning autisum so he'll never have a real life. Meanwhile my parents give him pills that affect his weight and his bipolar disorder. 20 something years later and he's 430 lbs 22 years old still getting chips, mcdonalds and wendys every weekend, they shallow fry EVERYTHING IN OIL and only give him processed shit. They dont listen to me and I can only hope he dies soon cause he is suffering internally, externally and unable to speak his mind in understandable words.

The “you can be trendy and demonized” hit me hard. I told myself years ago I was gonna let myself gain weight and still be a bad bitch/hot girl and then I’d go to parties or meet people and noticed that being fat/obese was really only popular online. I have a nice shape but I can tell that the people that take fitness seriously aren’t checking for me. I’m in my 30s and in the real world everyone is worrying about health concerns or already have them. People are dating for partners who are fit and will live long. I’m making better choices but I still love to eat carbs and starches lol and I’m an addictive personality. It’s been so hard to lose weight at this age btw, I’m even considering taking my birth control out cause I think the hormones aren’t helping either.
