Hey Bruce Sorry, I still hate two cycle engines! Yesterday I did my first Quantum valve job. Compression was at about 40 psi. I saw a Donyboy video where he shone a light from behind the valve. Sure enough, I could see light. I purchased a trim removal tool from ctire, modified it slightly and it works great to remove and install the keepers. Now, after lapping, it has 60 psi.
@BrucesShop
@BrucesShop 3 года назад
Right . It won't measure higher than 60 as there is a compression release at 60 psi that kicks out after you start it. You may have known that.

@@BrucesShop Ah yes! I am familiar with the exhaust valve bump. I learned that from your camshaft replacement video. Coincidentally, this machine was a black 7.25 Craftsman as well!

This is an interesting watch. Viewed it since I'm picking up a P/P 500 for $20 in a few days. Supposedly ran and probably needs carb work though. I'm no stranger to saw carbs but it will be informative. I wanted to also comment on your observation of it seeming like a Husqvarna, Jonsered clone. Pioneer-Partner was a subsidiary of Electolux as well as Husqvarna and Jonsered, so that's the connection. Pioneer-Partner 500 was manufactured 1984-88 in Sweden. It was just Partner when the 500 was introduced in 1980.

Speaking of Canadians: you and the others seem to be very quality individuals. I grew up in North Platte, Nebraska which is at the junction of highways US 83 and Interstate 80. I worked at a gas station when young. We’d get several Canadians who were ALWAYS so polite and well mannered. Each and every one was a tribute to their parents and country. A few years later I had a job on a remote ranch in BC but due to an accident was unable to go. Kinda long winded but I do have great respect for Canadians. Keep blest my friend.

Outboard Marine Corporation(OMC) purchased Industrial Engineering, Canada's largest chainsaw manufacturer, back in the 50's and called it Pioneer Saws. OMC also owned LawnBoy mowers at the time. I worked in my father's lawnmower shop in the early 70's when he sold and serviced Pioneer saws and LawnBoy mowers. I think Husqvarna purchased Pioneer Saws in the late 70's around the same time my career took a different path. I enjoy your videos Bruce!

Really excellent video, Bruce, thank you so much! I couldn't believe I'd found this after stripping my Partner 500 yesterday, given to me 25 years ago by a Swedish friend when he was working in Scotland! Incredible work and you did a great job. I have two questions: firstly the epoxy you used and secondly do you know where I can get a fuel cap for this machine? I am struggling to find one. Other than that I am ready to clean out the fuel tank, clean the carb and oil pump system the look for a mirror finish in the chain bar! Feeling inspired, so thanks a million.
@BrucesShop
@BrucesShop 2 года назад
The Epoxy was JB Weld. As far as a cap. Ebay all over like Canada US etc.
@tonyhoskins634
@tonyhoskins634 2 года назад
@@BrucesShop Thank you, will def try the JB Weld. Challenge with the cap is that nothing seems to come up for the Pioneer 500 in my Ebay searches. It would be really good to know of other machines with readily available caps that would fit my P500, if anyone knows?
