Years ago I found a Pioneer PD4500 a a thrift store, $5. No read. Opened it up as I'm really handy and, yep, lens bouncing around inside. Now fully functional. The other day my boss gave me a PD-M502. I ordered a magazine, loaded it up and... no read. thought I'd look up some help as I've never dealt with a multi-cd changer and... the discs go in upside-down LOL! Working fine now, thanks! By the way, we sound identical. Seriously. Voice, inflection, specific sounds and dialect. It's eerie. And kind of annoying as I hate hearing myself speak LOL

I was hoping you would show us the actual installation of the lens. You spent 80% of the time on just “nice to know” rather than “need to know”. I know what to try and find now, but would have been nice to show us how to retrieve the lens from inside the unit, and glue it back in.

I just bought a Onkyo DX-C310 that looks exactly the same on the inside that was supposedly in working order but got it home & it's doing the exact same thing so I pulled the cover off & unscrewed the laser & sure enough the lense was gone but I shook it around a little real easy & found the lense so I cleaned it & reglued it back in using some E6000 clear glue that's thicker so won't run & is super strong but takes about 12 hours or more to cure depending on how much is used so I am hoping that it works again . Great video that's clear & to the point not wasting time on other stuff because this helped me out & answered what I thought might be the problem other than a dirty laser lense at first .

To Follow up might help the next person. With a DCM 777 the spring sets over a plastic post and applies tension as the mechanism moves outward. Also the laser lens that falls out has a flat side that matches up with a channel in the plastic mount that it is glued into. A blue filter on the lens gets oriented correctly and is slightly diagonal to the direction of the sled movement when the flat side is facing the correct way. In the video at 13:00 the flat side is at the 3:00 position.

I really liked your video it was really helpful now I know what to do if a lens ever falls of the optical pick up of a cd player .I was wondering if you think it is possible to change a two track reel to reel to a 4 track stereo reel to reel deck . I have a set of 4 track heads and also how would I fix an issue with a weak solenoid that works the pinch roller when I push play it only goes half way up and no more and this deck with the solenoid issue is a teac a-1200 and the one that I want to change to a 4 track two channel stereo is a tascam 32 . thank you for your time and have a great weekend and all the best look forward to learning more from your great videos

I enjoyed this as it opened up for me what could be wrong with my 1992 P520M Pioneer, it isn't quite this but it plays proper audio CD's a treat but when I put in CD-R's and RW's it ain't having it and I even got some top drawer CD-RXG's or whatever they are called and it either does the no disc or does try and play and skips like a dervish on speed, slap in a normal proper audio and its fine and extremely good quality for a near on 30 year old machine :S My lens was still intact and gave it a good polish with some ipa (alcohol not beer that is), just doesn't like recordable CD's by the looks of it :( One issue I did find was the shuttle thingy didn't go back into its little slot buried deep in the cartridge which jammed up and had to use a thin blade to heave the bloody thing out, only done that the once but was tres annoying lol

My Pioneer has a different issue. It knows it has discs in it because they'll show up and I can change them manually and change tracks, but there's just no sound coming out. It used to work fine with my vintage late 70's Hitachi receiver but I recently hooked it up to my new Onkyo TX8220 and suddenly no sound. Granted I hadn't used it in about a year but still...all the other lines in work just fine, phono, tape deck, tv...but no sound from the Pioneer cd changer.

This video was very helpful in that it eliminated a possible cause of the problem. Unfortunately it did not solve the problem. MY player exhibited the exact same symptoms you demonstrated prior to the removal of the cover. When i did turned the inner component over, the laser lens was in place. I cleaned as you suggested that any small particle or fingerprint my cause the same issue. Again, no luck. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?

I picked up a DCM 777 with the same laser mechanism. Trying to correct a skipping problem and I took the metal bracket marked 88D1B off with 4 screws so I could access and clean the brass drive screw. Problem is there is a torsion spring under there and it is not obvious how it is installed. Do you have any information on the spring placement? Thanks for the video.

Hi, do you happen to have any Laser lenses to suit a 6 stack CD Player. I have a PD-Z85M which is missing the laser. After putting it back together from a house shift it wasn’t working searched everywhere but no luck, and I’d like to get it working again. It comes with a whole unit/stereo system. Or do you know somewhere to get these lenses. Im in Australia.

Same problem with my Denon DCM-444, but I lucked out & found the lens inside the case. Re-installed, but still no joy. How can I tell whether the laser is even working? Should I see a light? Or is the laser invisible? Thx,

You mention the mounts and they are "almost always bad". How does one tell if the mounts are bad? I have ticking I'm trying to get rid of. Does that sound like it might be the mounts? Should the mounts be snug or have some play in them?

I have the same issue with a PD-M600. The focus lens is totally gone from the unit. Can you recommend a seller of the replacement part?
