WHO AM I:
My name is Charlie and I am disabled. I live with chronic illness, I have a severe form of Psoriatic Arthritis and its crap! I am in pain all the time and always battling fatigue. BUT, I will not let it win. I love to learn and to laugh (even though it hurts my arthritic rib cage LOL). You will often see Ollie (she) my black Labrador. She is currently my trainee assistance dog! We are together, literally ALL the time.
As there are a number of awful people who target us - the vulnerable - here is a link to my personal LinkedIn account. You can literally see the past 25+yrs of my career, people who have recommended me (as a Logistician as Disability Specialist is very new for me).

This is my opinion, but I've heard it from countless others too. They don't assess people properly during the medicals they're just incentivized to fail us all. So in practice PIP is awarded by how well you can navigate & cope with the system, not how disabled you are. Disabled people are less able to navigate it. But then new figures have shown there is zero percent fraud rate for PIP (i'm not sure about posting links on here, so I'd encourage you to google it), so I don't know why they're saying there is. It seems they aren't actually trying to deal with an issue they haven't got, they're just trying to force disabled people off benefits because there's too many of us after the pandemic & making up and issue to do so.

And in my experience of over a dozen jobs, not one of those employers wanted to help me through my difficulties. They all wanted me out the door, I even lied to most of them about my disabilities to try and hold down a job, but I never could hold down a job for long. If they think that employers will suddenly begin to offer in work support they are utterly deluded, and these same people scapegoating the disabled are claiming hundreds of thousands of pounds in tax payers money annualy in some cases. It just shows that it's always the poorest and most vulnerable that get hit with the rubble.

@@richiemac6101 It's also the fact that the only easily accessible work is low paid/minimum wage too, meaning you are likely to be working with the public (Most likely face to face), which I can't do due to my autism etc, so what jobs do we actually fill? Ones that we may be able to keep for a few weeks, or a few months, until we can no longer face going to work anymore and we're back to square one, with no income at all. I also had to deal with abuse from customers, and had racial comments etc, because I'm a dark tone white guy. That kind of crap doesn't do your mental health any favours either, and certainly doesn't motivate you to want to work and for minimum wage? Organisations have said that disabled people getting back into work will only make up a tiny fraction of the overall economy in years to come, yet the sole focus is on the ill and disabled getting back into work, forget whether we can do it or not, I guess as long as they say you can? or you're suddenly better?

I do hope you can find something suitable you can be happy doing I see now since I have been looking for another job that no one wants you we just have to keep hoping someone out there will give us the chance we deserve I put fully fit people to shame but no one notices that I am sure you do too we just have to keep trying and proving people wrong keep strong my friend you will get there👍

I recently had my phone call and I can say now from experience they absolutely do try to trick you by asking trick questions etc even though they claim they don't and the one thing you must do like this lady says in her other videos is record it (do not allow them to just record it because those recordings have atendancy to get corrupted or go missing when you ask for copies) and my assessor couldn't hide the fact that they were peeved that I was recording it when I told them which made me think they had already planned on screwing me over like they did the last time I applied and they also do blatantly lie when writing down your answers so be ready and do not trust them at all. Many of them work for Capita who are the same scumbags who do the TV licensing which should tell you all you need to know about what type of people they are, people who are happy to make money from peoples misery and will do whatever they possibly can to get their bonuses no matter who's life it might turn upside down.

I have come close to it because of my mental health and the added stress of the strain and personal questions that are asked. It is not just about my mental health, though. I suffer with my heart, asthma, extensive osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia. I have a stoma and need to have my large bowel taken out and an illeostomy made and put in place. I also have stage 3 kidney injury. The list goes on. It took them a year to renew my PIP. I got two messages at 5mths and 8mths, stating they had my renewal form and evidence and they would be in touch in due course. Eventually I had a letter with a phone appointment interview to go through the medical assessment. I had to try and remember all the things that I had answered from a year ago. It was not easy, I have multiple immune system issues and mobility problems under two Consultants. Unyet even with all the evidence and genuine health problems, I still felt like a fraud and hate claiming PIP, it's so degrading. My heart goes out to you, as long as they have confirmed they have your form, all you can do is wait. Keep a copy of what you told them because the medical assessment is like a test to see if you can remember what you put on the form. Stay strong and best of luck to you.

I have had three cancers including late stage ovarian. The treatment has left me permanently disabled. I allowed the government access to my medical records so that the knew from the beginning what my disabilities are. The interview is very hard because they make you try to walk with your eyes shut. I was terrified that I would fall even though my husband was there and said he would not let me fall. I found it very difficult but my disabilities are permanent until my cancer comes back and I don't make it. I didn't choose to become ill. I'm not overweight and I've never smoked or had a drink for 30 years. I'm moving house next year because the stairs are getting too much for me. I've fought very hard to beat cancer but there are times when I wish that I hadn't. Some days are worse than others.

Hi - first of all, regarding your claim about there being "too many people faking conditions to claim PIP", where is your citation for this please? Every statistic I have seen has indicated that the fraud rate of PIP is actually very small at 0.2% of all PIP claimants. Statistically, more money is lost due to incorrect payments than is lost due to fraud, so I find this line from you very curious. What figures do you have to back up your claim, please? Secondly, your rhetoric around "OUR community" as being somehow separate to the "fakers" is disingenuous. You are trying to show your own community as beyond reproach while others as being an 'enemy' to focus on. It's very "it's not us, it's THEM" which is a tired tactic these days. If you have any evidence to back up anything you are saying, please do so, because people claiming that others are faking their conditions cause actual harm - which is something I am surprised you do not know about. Thirdly, the fact that you like the "sick note" change with the GP's is absurd. You want the same people who do these "degrading" PIP assessments to >> checks notes

At last one comment offering some sense and lucidity. This is still only a consultation as yet (largely unrealistic in its entirety) and all of it is a politically motivated move by a cornered PM trying to save his position. The appeals themselves cost more than the loss due to fraud. The logistics to apply the proposed changed have not been thought of as usual with a hasty spectacular political decision and are likely not feasible due to the cost they would incur.

@@saskia6750 That's the right attitude, do not let them win and deny you something you are rightly entitled to. This is something they don't seem to care about is that when you have depression and\or anxiety all of this makes it ten times worse. I am currently really on edge waiting for their decision and stressing about the phone call and going over and over it in my head trying to think of what they might have tricked me on, it's horrible. What makes me really upset is when I go to the local food bank and I see these scammers there who I know get full PIP along with other benefits and it all goes on drugs and then they are scratting about looking for tab ends on the street and using the food bank. It amazes me how some people manage to scam the system like they do when folks like us who do have legit ailments have to fight for every penny.

Charlie, I don't think you realise how triggering it can be for somebody who suffers with the kind of debilitating anxiety that I and many like me suffer. I know you try your best to help people, but talking about people never wanting to go back to work as if they're faking it makes me feel like I'm about to pass out. It's not about whether I want to go back to work or not. It's about this thing of people not believing me and going into a downward spiral of self-doubt and self-incrimination. I struggle daily with self-loathing because I feel totally inadequate. I am embarrassed to leave my house in case people see me and think I'm a scrounger. If I could have a normal life I would give a kidney for it. However, the thought of going back to work seems such an unachievable goal that it makes me have panic attacks. Hi Charlie, it's when the changes come into play that will really impact us, I am currently under re-assessment because my health and required support have changed, but the DWP has made me go through the full re-assessment to the application form to the ATOS interview, I applied in December and had a partial interview with ATOS last week, because I got so stressed that it triggered my angina. I asked the ATOS nurse to stop the interview and she threatened to stop my PIP, but I couldn't carry on. I have contacted the DWP and explained everything so they are assessing me without the interview. I'm worried that my decision to stop the interview is going get my PIP stopped, and this is affecting work (I work full time). I know you can't help me but after listening to your blogs I just wanted to say thank you for taking your time to help those of us who need your input and guidance.

Charlie….ITS JUST A TORY PROPOSAL!! Its doesn’t mean that it’s going to happen. For a government proposal it takes between 3/5 years to be implemented.Green papers has to be agreed by all political parties, the House of Lords, meeting with different channels etc just like with universal credit which took ten years to be introduced. If labour take charge then yes they will change the assessment but they would not make people with disabilities poor.

For me, the system works. The questions, the format, the wording all works. It’s not the system that’s the problem. It’s the government forcing policy on staff to manipulate people into failing their assessments. You have to go to tribunal. It can take years. Many people that are terminally ill will never reach the end of the process because they’re not accurately recorded. We need every meeting recorded verbatim, and those recordings must be used by both the staff and the user in court. Using leading questions shows the system is manipulated. The system is okay, the framework is fine. It’s the staff and government that get it so wrong.

The biggest problem is getting a full diagnosis for complex conditions. The PIP payment does not cover the cost of living. I think the existing approach is disgusting and just laying down and accepting the changes without challenge is wrong. It took me over two years to get my claim for PIP and I got it purely on the basis of my Epilepsy, but since then I’ve have kidney failure and complication that require its removal to reduce the other healths issues because of the complications that it caused. With all this I was denied ESA. I have been dependent on my Wife to live and feel like a burden on her. I have worked and paid my taxes all of my working life and now I’m 1 year away from retiring and feel pressurised into getting back into work with employers that wouldn’t even look at me now.

To cook and prepare a meal means chop, wash, cook fresh ingredients or even pop fish, chips in the oven and cook peas on the hob. But according to the gov website, what needs to be taken into consideration is if you manage it in no more than twice the time of a person without a disability, to an acceptable standard - not burnt or undercooked (this could be due to fatigue or cognitive issues rather than just being a poor cook), the impact it has on your health doing so, if you can repeat it throughout the day as necessary (in this case breakfast/lunch/dinner) and if you can do it in a safe manner eg not have a seizure which would put you at risk of harm.

Hey Charlie, I've just recently had to go through a PIP review process (above knee leg amputee) and I basically filled out the form with "no change" without going into detail because my disability is pretty obvious, so I sent it back and thought I'd have the usual barriers they put in the way, I sat back and waited. 2 months later, still nothing, I get on the phone and ask what is going on, they tell me I'm in the right list and my case was soon to be looked at. So, whilst I was chatting to the DWP rep on the other end I said to them, "This assessment? It has come to my attention that this "assessment" isn't mandatory" (they're not mandatory, they make it out to be mandatory so their 3rd party companies doing the assessing get commission, hence profiting from taking people off of benefits), to which they couldn't respond and to further strengthen my claim I then requested a "Paper based Review"... Their tone changed immediately lol.. They said I'd hear back within 2 weeks, well, it's one week later and I've won my case. I'd call that another tail between the legs moment for the DWP.

As a further add on this new proposal being trialed in England in October could lead to suicides as they are going to have someone act as a go between from a GP to the DWP and for me i really dont agree that is the solution because we have had 14 years of outside companies and target based bonus cultures in these organisations where they refuse peoples claims to reach certain target criteria and that will have dire consequences. I worry people will now have to decide if they goto a GP or goto somebody at Jobcentreplus when they become ill. For me this is a grey area line that can only lead to tragic circumstances

It’s still could have a top tier that’s double what it is now. If you get 12 care points or 40 it’s the same result. Their consultation doesn’t seem mention many people give up all their care pip and chunk of their ESA already. Not going save money if we have a voucher to give to council to pay care fees.

They can stick their vouchers where the sun don't shine.

Thank you very much for all your work and effort. I watched your "how to fill a pip claim form" twice and then a third time filing it in. Also watched your call assessment video... Very pleased to say I won first time.. that's on you.. thanks again. Ste k

You say doctors and GPs just give out sick notes (you are wrong) they DO NOT and you can only hand SO many until the DWP pull YOU in for a medical its not as easy has you make it out to be and hospital Consultants doctor reports should be used for PIP and U.C. claims BUT NOT SO MUCH WITH GPS NOTES.
