Probably one of the best videos that I have seen in quite a while. I think you articulated what many of us feel about pipe smoking. “Maybe I smoke a pipe because I’m a pipe smoker.” Ex Act Ly! Well done.
Musing and thinking out loud as only a pipe smoker can do 👍 Good to see and hear you, Mark. I started smoking a pipe nearly 54 year ago. There have been times when I've smoked daily, but, also, there have been times when I rarely or didn't smoke at all. That's the nice thing about a pipe. When you want to smoke it, it's there for you. Starting with a clay pipe is an interesting, even classy, choice for a first pipe. I got started on a classic Billiard recommended by the tobacconist where I bought it. It's still a go-to. 'Maybe I smoke a pipe because I'm a pipe smoker.' - love that statement. There are a lot reasons pipe smokers give for why they like smoking a pipe, but I sometimes think that many of us who smoke a pipe either start or continue because we just connect with smoking a pipe. I started smoking a pipe last month because I liked the idea of it and not many do it anymore. Maybe it'll be my thing... time will tell. I'm also in that buying pipes and eleventy different blends looking for that goldilocks combination. I'm partial to bent stems and churchwardens.

I’ve been in the hobby for ten years. I did not smoke that whole time though. I think I was going through a big transition in life and I lost the patience. I will say now that I have began smoking again, I like how it makes me as a person. To me a pipe smoker is someone who values having control over their mind and taking time to organize it. It reconnects us to the earth in a way as well because we are taking pleasure in something from it. Tobacco is so unique in the way that when I’m smoking I feel like I can taste a memory. Growing up playing in the woods, the peppery smell of my dad’s Copenhagen, the smell of a fire being kindled in the wood stove on a cold morning or even standing on the patio while an uncle smoked a non menthol cigarette. All these memories are brought up while enjoying my pipe.

I’ve been enjoying a tobacco pipe now since about last September when I stopped in the Gatlinburlier tobacco shop at the Mountain Mall in Gatlinburg, TN. where I was introduced to it.

Just seen your channel by random, I am also a pipe smoker in NE Indiana, Blackford specifically. I just like sitting outside with the woods cats after a long day smoking a strong blend with a glass of good liquor. It's hard to explain exactly why a pipe smoker is the way they are. Perhaps it's the ritual aspect of pipe smoking? Perhaps it's the art that is the pipe itself? It could very well be a million-one-half-dozen things, but everyone has their own reasons, and that is good enough for me. I guess here in hillbilly land, it's still common enough to see pipe smokers, but we are still a rarity amongst the swathes of cigar and cigarette smokers. But I've two things to say before I head on out. 1: If you're ever thinking of selling your pipes or tobacco, I'll be willing to buy them from you. 2: It's a crazy world out there, Stay good and stay safe.
Pipes and pipe tobacco are leaps ahead of cigars and cigarettes. I sometimes have cigars and hand rolled cigarettes for convenience sake but the pipe experience is just on another level.
I don’t think pipes are necessary leaps and bounds ahead of cigars they are just different and smoked in different environments. For me cigars are enjoyable more in a sociable environment due to their low maintenance while smoking. I can also enjoy them on the golf course. Pipes are more therapeutic and solitary for contemplation and relaxation.
@@fossil-bit8439 That's fair enough, i agree keeping pipes going as near to perfectly as possible is a high maintenance activity. I guess i just enjoy the variety of different types of pipe tobacco as well as the fact that it's the most affordable way of smoking.

I'm just about to start pipe smoking and watched a lot of videos mostly American. Just ordered a cob and was pretty disappointed when i was trying to find all these blends that everyone was raving about but nothing was available over the pond. Even tobacco shops in the EU countries don't ship here, looking back 4 years ago it seems a lot was available pre Brexit but there's not a lot of choice now it seems.
I recall sending a couple pkgs overseas where it had to be kept on the down low. They snuck in, but I am aware of others who lost the whole lot of what they sent / expected to receive
