Colin Kelly - I would rate this as a "must try," if only for it's reputation. It's a blend people often use as an apotheosis of a "Full English."

I'm a beginner pipe smoker. usually I buy mac baren regular tobacco in bulk. the first time I tried this artisan's blend. oh god, the smell is horrible! but, the taste is fucking awesome. Tasty smoke! almost smells like lamb barbeque in my backyard. lol. very exciting experience.

I've been curious to try this blend for some time but, like you mentioned, the rumoured strength of it has scared me off. I like Latakia and will be looking for a new blend to smoke this winter. Perhaps it's time to give it a try once the weather cools off. Always enjoy your reviews, sir!

Great vid! Now I have 2 tins of fresh AB and Im in to my own project considering "fast maturing" of tobacco, while putting the whole tin to an oven for about 2 hours, 70°C. I tasted the fresh one and now Im going to taste the "aged one", cant wait for the results.

A fellow YTPC member send me some Nightcap a few weeks back. I was a little afraid of trying it since I am sensible to nicotine. Finally, all went well and I found that blend to be extremely good... of course, very strong taste-wise, but to my liking. I will certainly will try this Ashton Artisan Blend one day. Just put it on my to try list. I am a big fan of Syrian Latakia (my favorite blend up 'til mid-2015 were, HH Vintage Syrian and Three Oaks). As you said, Syrian LAtakia is a lot smoother and more subtil, so I am really looking fprward trying this Ashton blend. Thx for a great review! Take care and Be well!

Gilles Cassidy Gilles, for what it's worth, I first tried Nightcap and then later on Artisan's Blend. For me, while both taste very good, the nicotine level of Nightcap is higher than that of Artisan's Blend. When smoking Nightcap, I can get a bitt dizzy at the end of the bowl, while Ashton's offering does not affect me in that way and I can even have two bowls back to back (which will then, however, make the nicotine felt). At the moment, Ashton's blend is my favourite in the heavy, full bodied spectrum.

Excellent review! Artisan's Blend is an amazing pipe tobacco. One of my favorites actually. I'm curious if you'd be interested to try out their Consummate Gentleman. It's a good English Latakia, bit on the milder side. Love your channel! Watching your reviews everyday! Keep up the good work!

Tudor Baltoiu I used to adore both. Consummate was my all day smoke, that or frog Morton, then when I wanted something a bit more powerful artisans 😍

This is a good blend! I smoke a lot of "light" english blends like Frog Morton's and others like GL Pease Gaslight. I enjoy this blend more. It has body and complexity but it isn't overpowering on my palate. Great review. Don't shy away from this blend because it's rated as "strong". If you like Latakia...go for it.

Spot on. I buy the odd tin of this from time to time and often find myself thinking I should smoke more of it. I suppose I prefer Dunhill and SG offerings more at the end of the day. Also, I too find myself put off by the tin art. That font bugs the hell out of me for some (no doubt highly irrational) reason.

Hello again. Nice clip as always....I like Artisan's Blend,quality mixture indeed.Been a pipe smoker for a long time and I think that those days(30 years) ago when there was not so many choices of blends available so called English blends had better taste.I don't know if there is a something dodgy with my palette.Finished a week ago tin of Artisans and now opened my second tin HH Vintage Syrian...a hell of blend.

Bradley, thanks for the review I have been greatly looking forward to since you mentioned on the Sunday Smoke you would review this blend. It is one of my favourites, in particular since to me it seems not as strong in nicotine as Nightcap, meaning it will let me get on with whatever I am doing, while Nightcap does require some minutes of "meditation" after a bowl... I was wondering whether you have Rattray's Black Mallory and/or Red Rapparee on your radar for future review, since from what I've read, both seem to be in the full english segment as well? Cheers, it is a pleasure coming back to your channel again and again. Marc

thx for the gd review, artisan's blend is gd quality and well blended. sometimes it's just smooth and you do not get the hmmmm, when you it should be. less stronger character than nightcap.

Puffing Billy - I think a tin of Mac Baren HH Vintage Syrian would go a long way towards helping you distinguish the difference between Cyprian and Syrian. To my taste, it's a blend in which the Syrian is easier to pick out.

The standard demonym relating to Cyprus or its people or culture is Cypriot. The terms Cypriote and Cyprian are also used, though less frequently. Just a thought....

Do you feel that this blend could easily change for better or worst, if they use a older or younger Syrian Latakia once what's being use is depleted? Do you like Nightcap over Artisan? Bradley, my understanding of why no Syrian Latakia is being produced has to do with the Syrian Oak trees used to smoke the leaves of Shek-el-bint. The trees are bordering on extinction. The government (such as it is) decreed that none of them are to be harvested. Of course, the politics don't help....

Hey there good friend Bradley have you had the chance to try consummate gentleman by Ashton ?. I was kinda worried that I made a mistake because it's latakia friendly,the smell is very strong leather and campfire aroma but I love it. definitely recommend.

Nice review as usual !!! I have a question. Was Ashton produced by another company/blender before? I have just opened a tin that I bought in Spain some 5 years ago. It is called Ashton Artisian's Blend. See pipador.com/pipas-de-fumar/info-tabacos-pipa/ashton-artisan-s-blend.html for a pic of the tin. Not only is the name different (Artisian's i.o. Artisan's) but also the tobacco is not as dark as the one in your review. The description on tin (translated from Spanish) says Mixture of Virginia, Burley and Syrian Latakia. It is not bad; it's definitely a strong english blend. It just looks different from what you have shown in your review.
