Pipe Tobacco Review: Peterson "Balkan Delight" 

It's so funny how different people experience blends because this is my all time favorite, I can't get enough! I love it, my pipes love it and my local store stocks it lol that's all I need

This has been my favorite english for a while. It's very creamy, smooth and the good amount of periqued does add something special. I'm not a big latakia fan but this one just stands out and is absolutely an all day smoke!

All of your reviews are top notch. I'm having a bowl of this right now. I bought it and the pipe--a Peterson Harp 80s--at the Peterson store in Dublin. The health warning on my tin is in English and Gaelic.

Tried it for the first time today. I found funny that I smoked it in a similar pipe to yours. Not a bad tobacco, I mostly enjoyed perique notes in this tobacco. I'm more of an Aromatic lover but I still found this blend pleasant.

A pretty fair review of what has become my go-to, all day tobacco. I'd been enjoying Dunhill's Navy Rolls and 965 in rotation prior to finding this a couple of years ago and now find Balkan Delight utterly satisfying. So if we're to say goodbye to Dunhill blends it wasn't a moment too soon.

I love blends where the Latakia is used sparingly. I'm not a fan of Lat bombs. This definitely sounds like one I will need to try. Thanks for the review friend. It was a great one as always.

Sweet Dublin danish mixture with whiskey. Really like to hear your opinion on it as it is by far the most commonly smoked tobacco in Denmark

Great video! I tried this blend over a year ago and was disappointed-the title is very misleading. I liked it's full body, but felt there was too much perique. I was hoping for an oriental forward tobacco, but was letdown. I liked it, but it wasn't what I had hoped for-it being just an English blend, I wouldn't choose it over some of my other favorite English blends. Love your reviews and always look forward to them!

Thanks for the nice video. As I wrote before I find it "Dull", it dosen't have same harmony as Old Dublin. Macbaren has now rights to all Peterson blends and Ogden's blends too, so now you lot can enjoy such a classics as St. Bruno's Flake and ready rubbed, Gold Block .Have a great weekend.

I experienced similar name confusion with Samuel Gawith Balkan flake, which consists of a simple 70/30 Virginia/Latakia mix. After a little research, I discovered that "Balkan" was included in the name because the Virginias in that blend were sourced from a number of Balkan states. I suppose it is possible that is the case for this blend as well and the rationale behind the name.

i just cracked open a tin of this now and am halfway down my first bowl and the latakia is only really announcing itself now - it's been a VaPer to me this whole time. would you consider this in your search for an Elizabethan replacement, even though it's got that smidge of latakia?

Excellent review. Forget the conventional naming of pipe tobaccos, but isn't Cyprian latakia Balkan? It comes from the Balkan region.

I'm a simple guy. I enjoy VA/pers and latakia. This just replaced Nightcap and most of my midday VA/pers

Big fan of Peterson's Old Dublin (my tin is almost gone, first tin I've smoked all the way through so far) and I bought a tin of this to see how different it is. Tin notes are definitely different between the two, but overall they are quite similar. I have only had one pipe of Balkan Delight so far but it's been about the same in terms of smoke flavor as the Old Dublin (though it had been a while since I smoked my last bowl of OD, so that might be faulty memory). Which one would you say is your favorite of the two? What would you say are the primary differences between the two? I'm guessing the perique content (not sure if Old Dublin has any perique) but I honestly couldn't really taste it. Probably just not experienced enough to pick out flavoring elements like that by taste yet.

Watched this while enjoying some along with your review. Very enjoyable and fun to experience with your observations. Have you tried C&D Super Balkan? Just got an ounce to try. Interested in your take.

$9!!! You're kidding me??? (you're not I know)...I live in Dublin and pay 21 euro for this 50g tin...which converts at the moment to $23!! Wow...are we getting ripped off here?? Rather too much Perique in this for me...far too spicey and peppery...much prefer the Old Dublin... Nice review...love the channel

It's interesting how many blends are misnamed. You should try Robert McConnell's Oriental which is actually a strong Latakia forward English blend.

I would not have guessed that you were so good inn the high register. You can probably cover two octaves, no?

Nice review. I have an opened tin of this from a few years ago, about half full. I remember it as quite dull and harsh, but maybe I'll give it another go.

I wondered if you could add Robert Lewis 123 mixture to your list of tobaccos to review. This is one which I'm considering getting my hands on and I would love to hear your thoughts on it :)

The scandinavien tobacco group makes my every day blend. Burkom riff. Its cavendish and virginia blend. I smoke thier cherry aromatic.

A 40 g bag costs about 10-13 dollars. For the price its a great every day smoke.

Thanks for the review! Peterson seems to be fairly well represented in my parts so I may have to try a tin when I feel like supporting my local. I meant to ask on your Balkan Sobranie review, have you tried Black House by Hearth & Home? Apparently it most closely resembles the original B.S. Compared to it's competitors (White Knight and Magnum Opus for a start) its definitely my preferred blend -- though I've never tried the original so who's to say whether it is anything alike!

This is my "last resort" choice when I run out of the stuff I buy online and I have to go to the local tobacconist. It's OK but to my palate it's a little rough and harsh, fast burning and hot, It dries out very fast, lots of tongue bite.

Have you tried Samuel Gawith's Balkan Flake? Lots of Latakia, great flavour, very slow burning.

I have two tobaccos that you might find interesting. Pure orient and pure caribe by robert mcconnell. The latter has a cigar like taste.

Hi Bradley. I would like to share information with you about Peterson's Balkan Delight pipe tobacco. Today I was informed by German online seller of pipe tobacco that Balkan Delight will not be distributed in Germany any more. I have ordered more tins that they had in stock and was notified with this info. The Company confirmed information regarding Germany market which is the biggest in Europe. It is possible that this tobacco will no longer be produced, but this conclusion has to be verified also by other sellers outside Germany or by Peterson.

I have been a pipe smoker as of 1987. Excuse me but what is a "vapor". I am un-faniliar with this as term for a tobacco "type" or "style". Could you explain? Thank you.

I love their blends poroblem is they dont sell most of Them on The Danish market and They Remove The ones that are... WE Are stuck with remakes from My Own Blend that taste nothing like The original

So it’s an English blend not a Balkan. A true Balkan will be very oriental forward where an English doesn’t have to have oriental in it or just enough to taste it while still tasting Virginia. These companies now days are clueless what to call what they are selling.

Too much tax on tobacco. A 50g tin in the UK has £5.20 in duty and then 20% VAT.
