This is what I need done to relieve my piriformis/sciatica pain. I have tried all of the physical therapy stretching exercises for over 2 months and unfortunately the pain keeps getting worse. Sadly with the Coronavirus pandemic in full swing, tests needed to schedule this surgery, as well as the surgical procedure itself will have to wait. My pain begins just to the left of my spine in the L1 S5 area exactly where my scar from my microdiscectomy surgery (May 21st 2019)took place. It is possible that the scar tissue formed near or around my piriformis muscle after the microdiscectomy surgery may be what triggered my piriformis syndrome pain. The pain became suddenly extreme in the beginning of February 2020. I thought I had re-ruptured my disc. But I had an MRI in the beginning of March 2020 and there was no indication that my disc had re-ruptured. My doctor was going to schedule appointments for me to see the proper specialists in Worcester in March 2020. Unfortunately Covid 19 became a horrible reality for the world and I was unable, and am still unable to schedule the appointments with the specialists in Worcester. So I wait. In pain. I wait. 😩

Please, whoever is watching this, this is the old very damaging release surgery. I had this with a orthopedic surgeon, and I was damaged beyond belief. This is because there is high risk for cutting through damage peripheral nerves. Also if you pay attention to when he says the muscle retracts when they release it, oh it retracts all right mine flipped around my sciatic nerve like a rubber band. It was not seen by the surgeon because it happened at the sciatic notch and they when they release it in this manner they do not go all the way to the sciatic notch to see where the other end of your muscle is connected. Yes some people can get some relief from the surgery but what happens over time is it reconnect to the sciatic nerve in scar tissue down it then the pain quadruples. Dr. Tim Tollestrup pioneered a much better surgery for piriformis syndrome. Not only did he do my revision surgery from a damaging muscle release, he had to fix several of my peripheral nerves that were damaged during the release. He goes in through a 2-in incision all the way to the sciatic Notch and removes the muscle from both ends. You can walk right after surgery, and most people get immediate relief from that deep horrific pain. No crutches, no walker, am I sciatic nerve healed wonderfully by 7 weeks post-op. Please watch this educational video chat about piriformis syndome by the surgeon who pioneered the highly successful surgery for this condition. He is a chronic pain peripheral nerve surgeon. Orthopedics should not be doing this surgery. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KVyV7sZPZ6M.html

This pandemic may have saved you! If you dare go to this doctor and get that procedure you will end up getting revision surgery. Dr. Tim Tollestrup pioneered the successful surgery for piriformis syndrome by removing it through a 2-in incision and he is a nerve surgeon not an orthopedic.

@@Barb61765 I'm familiar with Dr. Tollestrup from RU-vid. I've been suffering from piriformis pain for about 24 years. I've done all the usual stuff to deal with, but I'm definitely unsatisfied with living with this pain. My only concern is money. Does he take the normal insurance e.g. Blue Cross blue shield? On one of his videos someone made it sound like he doesn't.

How is there an empty air space in there with things floating around???

They likely inject saline to make space and provide better visualization. You can see the fluid squirt out of one incision when they remove an instrument at time 0:50

Do NOT get the release procedure it's highly unsuccessful. You need to see Dr Tim Tollestrup in Vegas and have it done with his newer procedure. He completely removes the muscle through 2-in incision. I know several people who have had a release who had to have revision surgery with Dr T because the release is so damaging.

@@Barb61765 Why is the release more damaging than removing the whole muscle. And don’t we need this muscle I’m surprised it can just be removed. Have you had it done with him and if so how are you doing.
