Pirlo once claimed that the number of his assists would've been considerably more if he had played behind Messi or Cristiano. It's easy to see why. He wasn't just a technician. He was a genius. A master craftsman. Simply brilliant
I can just imagine certain strikers getting this sort of delivery, guys who like to hit it one time. Imagine Lewandowski, CR7 or RVP on the end of Pirlo's perfectly lofted pass...
My fav defensive midfielder of all time ,never needed to sprint ,could give any type of pass ,score different type of free-kicks ,cross from any angle ,he was a joy to watch ,still miss him playing.😍😍
He's not a defensive midfielder, you clown. He is a regista, which is a deep-lying playmaker. His job wasn't to defend anything, that was Gattuso and other people. I don't know where you people get your football knowledge, man. FIFA?
@@michelmelani3249he was a deep lying playmaker. A no.8 by traits who was positioned like a 6. Just in frony of the defense. A little deeper. Like Veratti, Xabi Alonso, Frenkie De Jong etc.
There was never a player, and probably never will be, who was able to create chances for fun from a CDM position like Pirlo did. Truly one of a kind. Literal poetry on the pitch. One of the best footballers I've ever seen.
Pirlo is such a unique player. Different type of breed from Xavi/Iniesta.. He seemed to be able to bypass any type of defense with a single stroke of perfectly weighted pass. This kind of video is f**kin therapeutic...
@@TheJwwinter fully agree with you on the playing type. I mentioned XavIesta since those 2 players are more often mentioned when talking about midfield GOAT. 🙌🏻
Think about this. This man played at AC Milan for 10 years during his prime. There are hardly any clips in this wonderful 9 minute video of his time there. Think about about how many genius passes this man has played that don't show up in this video. i can think of a few off the top of my head. Hell, there isn't even a single pass from the 2006 WC in this video. Not even his famed no-look assist to Grosso in the 119' in the semi-final agianst Germany. Peerless Pirlo.
Pirlo is my favorite player of all time, but as a CDM myself, what astounds me most here is the quality of the finishing. So many difficult one-touch finishes from the air…outstanding passes, sure, but so many of these guys make it look easy.
I love Xavi Hernandez, he can control midfield with 500 pass per game, but 90% of that pass is low risk pass. Compare to this man, Pirlo make much high risk pass, short and long pass. He can make you face to face with your opponent goal keeper with his pass. This man is amazing 👍
@@starboy__1053 absoulety right, Xavi is the main reason why Barca can retain 70% ball possesion and make their oponent frustrated. The other side, Pirlo maybe just give one or two touch but it can make his teammates in 1 on 1 position with goal keeper. Both of them is legenda and true artists
I would prefer player like Pirlo, especially when you play against a team that park the bus where obviously you gotta have plenty of possession but unable to break the defensive line with low pass, one long pass from Pirlo would definitely going to break that defense. It's a shame that R9 came to Ac Milan in out of shape because imagine Pirlo supplying R9 with those long ball in his prime,
When looking at Italy 🇮🇹, you are looking for a maestro long-range cross, Pirlo is your man When looking at England 🏴, the sexiest man in the field is the one and only David Backham Those era, every countries have so many potential players gifted with the uniqueness and character of style that makes so much enjoyment in football history Nowadays, money makes no feelings for the game Just buy and sell more of business
It's not just the pass itself (which, of course, is unreal in its vision and quality). It's the grace of his movement. His body movement is just so elegant when he pings the ball. That little drop of the right shoulder followed by the coolest, most composed kick of the ball is just beautiful. There's an arrogance there that comes with knowing that you can drop the ball on a penny.
no other player in history had his amount of vision.absolutely unmatched.& in when it comes to overall passing ability, top 15 of all time for sure.Xavi & Iniesta were better at short passing, & there have been players with the same passing range, but none so consistent in every single type of pass imaginable.
When you say no else matched his vision, I'd have to disagree with you there. There's a difference in pulling off difficult passes and vision, make no mistake, Pirlo had buckets of vision but in all my years of watching football, I haven't vision like prime Ozil. Objectively speaking, he strung passes that elude everyone except his intended target. No one else could see where the pass was going, even commentators we're awestruck. I think he did himself a disservice in joining Arsenal, with his kind talent he would take an already polished and well oiled machine to the next level. I'm certainly not saying his better that Pirlo or Xavi or Iniesta, just saying the boy had unparalleled vision
Incredible player. It’s almost like you know what he’s going to do, a lot of the time but it’s so incredibly well done and timed that you still can’t stop it. That’s the brilliance of it. Not that they play anything alike, So I’m not comparing them in terms of ability but it’s almost like when Arjen Robben played and you knew he was always going to cut in onto his left foot but you still could hardly stop it, It’s just something they completely perfected the timing and technique
Nah man, they were all very different players with different styles. Xavi was the short pass master, insane vision (long balls too, but Barca's style of play didn't encourage too many searching balls). He was the metronome. Iniesta was arguably one the best box to box midfielders of his time. He was all rounded, a shot in the foot for him because it's hard to pick out his best traits, He was simply good at a number of things. Vision, passing, shooting, dribbling. Pirlo was pure class, unrivaled distribution, long ball and vision. Played like a quarterback and tidy in possession, great ball control. Oozed class. I personally was a huge fan of Iniesta, ability wise, I think he was underappreciated (being in a star-studded Barca with Messi and Xavi taking the shine a lot, even in ballon d'or rankings). But there's so much that they all brought to the table that it would be a crime to heap them all together and pick one.
Just enjoy the football. Stop compared each others. Stop telling whos better than whos. Everyone have their own unique style that make them world class
It's like very close, but the only reason people always think xavi and Iniesta is clear is because they played with the best team in history. If it was pirlo playing there they would have said the complete opposite. But watching games invidually i think pirlo is better. Xavi and Iniesta played with a much better and organized system
Lobs, chips, dead balls, balls in motion, dribbling, under control, quick passes, one-touch passes, fancy back-heels - he had them all equally well with both feet and the vision was immaculate.
It's almost unreal the effortless accuracy he's like your ultimate fifa Pro defensive mid pinging balls all over the place controlling the game with ease
There are/were many great playmakers out there but pirlo is the coolest one in . He’s like that cool professor everyone likes. He has that classy looks
I spoke 2 min with him on a beach and cazzo che numero UNO! Passing unrivaled, for me always the best mix between Beckham’s flat and Ronaldinho diagonal fast passes… Il maestro! Also a humble and good person, read the book!!
He was even better than this video suggests. There are very few clips of his prime days in AC Milan in the video. That was when Pirlo established himself as the best deep-lying playmaker in the world and formed an unstoppable midfield with Gattuso, Seedorf and Kaka.
@@matteo964 I like that you mentioned Zico. Who is according to me the most underrated footballer of all time. On par with the likes of Messi/Maradona.
@@shahabuddin2802 zico unfortunately had the bad luck of either being unlucky at the world cup (1982) or being injuried (78 and 86). If he won a wc with Brazil i'm sure people would consider him on the same tier as Maradona.
@@matteo964 I don't like judging players on titles their TEAMS have won. I think players should be judged on their abilities.. Zico, is one of the best passers of all time + One of the great dribblers + A great goalscorer.
Present day players are trained to play thrilling fast pace, physical counter attacks with long passes, and the supplying player in most cases just kick the ball to an unoccupied area of the pitch and have a fast running teammate chase it for 1 to 2 penalty boxes' distance to retrieve the ball before shooting or second pass it. Pirlo on the other hand can make long passes even while his own team is on active offence (not just in a space exposing counter attack situation), and in most scenarios, his receiving teammates don't need to run more than 1/2 the distance of a penalty box to pick up the pass before shooting or second passing. Pirlo is a genuinely high quality, vision based pin point passer, and he himself is the highest definition of a passing maestro.
