We run the Zeer at the HS I coach at. The kids love it and believe in it. You are combining two great run concepts into one.

Coach Mac great play! Wondering if you can expand a little bit on the footwork, aiming point, and visual read of your TB vs. both even and odd fronts? Thanks

I will try and do something vs 3-4 looks. We try not to adjust blocking schemes because it slows us down. Somebody in the 3-4 has to become the c gap player and that's our read. The tackle must be ready to block the end if he slants and we read the olb. We also run a bunch of 2 back stuff and use the h back as an extra blocker.

Do you ever have your slot receivers on the front side block downfield and eliminate the bubble option?
@stevenalesi9073

coach could you expand on the aiming points of the linemen and technique you have them utilize. additionally, what run plays do you utilize to compliment this play that does not involve motion.

Your first example of the play with a 3x1 showed a 4-3 defensive front with the safety rolling coverage to a 1. I use a defense that keeps one more extra defensive back than wide receivers (either 3-3 nickel or 2-3 dime depending on personel), so my question is, with one or more men out of the box in these fronts, is this still as effective with the speed of the defensive backs?

Coach, what's your adjustment to cover 2? We are looking hit slant over top of a nosey corner. I just wanted to hear your thoughts on zeer vs cover 2. Thanks coach!

Coachfb, We just seem to get better push with gap schemes. We use all the same zone variations but with veer rules. So many compliments to it

Could you do a presentation on defending RPOs....Evaluating DEFENSIVE DATA...STATS...thanks for Great informative videos!

Yes we will block the perimeter sometimes and make it a double option. We just call the veer with no key.

Coach, What's the depth of the QB and TB?
@CoachMac
@CoachMac 11 лет назад
We only read front side c gap players. By changing up the reads it adds more things for qb and oline, and i like us playing fast and simple. Most guys would check it to the 1 technique, but id rather call plays faster. Whatever works for you is best. I stay with my philosophy which is not for everybody. We spend time teaching the backs where the blocks will occur vs each front. I f we can get 2 or 3 vs the 3 tech im fine with that.

Great schemes coach!!! I have many questions vs 3-4 or 5-2 defenses. If you could please show more vs those fronts. Do you handle the S and the R with formation or do you ever stay in your diamond and read or block them? Also vs the 3-4 how do you teach your qb to read the c-gap, whether the DE or the S or the R is the read? Just a few of my questions...Thanks for your time, effort and energy.

Coach, if you were to run Zeer to the right with a 3 technique to the playside. Is the footwork for the guards a quick up-down step with their right foot while the Center and playside tackle would be immediately on zone tracks to the left? Hope this question makes sense, very intrigued by this play.
@CoachMac
@CoachMac 3 года назад
There would be a double on the 3 play side, I would take the guards A gap foot and pick it up and put it down to protect the open gap
@ncommerce
@ncommerce 3 года назад
Coach, if you're aiming the play at the playside A Gap, do you ever run into the playside DT (especially if it's a 2 or technique (or even like a 4i end) getting washed down into the back?
@CoachMac
@CoachMac 3 года назад
That can be an issue yes
@ncommerce
@ncommerce 3 года назад
@@CoachMac in that instance are you just telling your back to put his head down and drive for four yards, or are you trying to get him to bounce it?
@civyJUDO09

Is there any other passing concepts that you have for 3rd and long or maybe even a tempo throwing scheme from this concept
@CoachMac
@CoachMac 4 года назад
3rd and long depending on field position is what are we trying to do? Do we need half to go for it on 4th? Do we need to get into or stay in field goal range? If we need 12-15 we might sprint out and run deeper comebacks. If we get a man matchup or a matchup we like we may throw a vertical 50/50 ball hoping to get lucky or at least if it is picked maybe the same as a punt.

Hey coach, I know this is an older video, but I was wondering if you could explain the blocking rules a bit more. How is that veer blocking schemes? It seems like that is zone blocking to me. And then adding in your screen as your pitch play. Enjoyed the part about the key screens.
@CoachMac
@CoachMac 6 лет назад
Coach Phillips there is no thought of overtake, we are blocking everything with down or vertical movement. Backside of Zone is frontside of zeer and we will not scoop or cutoff.
@jacobphillips1483

Thomas MacPherson Thanks coach, that makes more sense, especially when I reviewed the path of the back. We are a veer team, and we work to cut off everything B gap and over, seeing how this scheme might work for us. I've got a couple videos about how we do things now on my channel. Thanks for the reply!

Ryan, We don't change our rules much if any at all vs odd fronts. If you are 10 personnel the 5-2 and 5-3 teams have to account for WRS somehow. If it's straight man and their dudes are that much better then scheme doesn't matter. It's still a game about numbers and 10 personnel will eliminate a lot of 5-3 5-2 defenses.
@georgemoore2413
@georgemoore2413 8 лет назад
we run a slant/angle 5-2 (basically a 3-4) and 2 shell coverage and roll our safeties. 10 personnel doesn't change our scheme one bit. 00 personnel affects us, but then we drop an ilb to read 3 to 2 on strong side
@tmorg111
@tmorg111 11 лет назад
Coach with this scheme, why wouldn't you follow the veer concept of optioning the playside 3 tech? It seems that by doing it your way the blockers would be taking the "trash" into the dive. A lot of dive back climbing into the O-lineman's but if that makes sense?
@michaelcooney5620

When would you run this vs power read?
@CoachMac
@CoachMac Год назад
That was more of a Triple Option component, or maybe if we didn’t like the front pull a guard. Sometimes we just liked 2 Double Teams
