I’ve had this model for several years now there. This is a really good smoker but you have to get the upgrades for it. Otherwise it’s extremely hard to use temperatures fluctuate way too much. You need to get the. Flame damper and then you’re going to need to get the attachment piece that goes on the left side to block the heat from coming out directly on the thermostat. Look up smokes like a boss they have everything you need.

Hello, we just purchased this smoker, how do you know when to get upgrades?
@epikx1934
@epikx1934 22 дня назад
I have the V3 from the most recent fathers day sale, pro series from Lowe's and I was expecting to need these upgrades but out of the box this thing has performed as expected the only thing I added is a felt seal I got from Amazon and a smoke tube, with those two things it's made the cooking experience a lot better. So I didn't have temp issues or anything like that from skipping out on the upgrades or modifications. I live in Texas and I noticed that when the grill is in direct sunlight on hot 100° days the grill runs hotter but if I get it in the shade the temps don't fluctuate as much so in my opinion it's the environmental impact that affects the temperature fluctuation the most. I haven't had a really cold day yet but I have cooked in the rain and the grill didn't have an issue keeping temp so far only direct sunlight on hot days seems to be the biggest factor which of course makes sense sitting in the sun like that. Happy grilling yall 🤘🏽

Does the hopper have strait down side walls? Or does it have taperd down sides like a funnel to make it easier to completely empty the hopper? Does it have an upper great? Does it have a hole on the end wall to thread the heat probes through so you don't have to go through the door? How long and deep is the barrel inside in inches? Does the controle pannel have a pellet "Feed" control/prime button?... and that's all I got to ask about that - for now.

Hey, would like to say great video just purchased mine. The new generation series 1150 PS3 having a major problem connecting the Wi-Fi. Bluetooth keeps telling me critical update is needed, but I cannot connect in order to have this problem resolved. Any chance of someone else running into this problem during set up for the first time, thank you so much

I have the PB1150 PS2, it does not have the touch screen , as for removing the burn pot , I have to jam my foot against the smoker and pull like hell to get the burn pot out, I think it is warped. It also does not put out that much smoke , I have to use a smoke tube.

Hello, what is a smoke tube?
@epikx1934
@epikx1934 22 дня назад
I use a smoke tube as well. Pellet grills are not exactly known to be the best smokers although they do produce a decent amount of smoke most people would compare to offset smokers. Anyways I think a smoke tube would be useful in any case so you can run hotter cook temps but not sacrifice on the smoke produced by the grill as usually pellet grills set under 200° produce more smoke as the temp lowers I've seen some grills go as low as 140° "smoke" setting

Have you updated the firmware?
@ozarksdigitalcreations9254
@ozarksdigitalcreations9254 3 месяца назад
I advise getting your own meat thermometer and using it. All of my pit boss grills and vertical smokers cook great, but they are all inaccurate with the provided probes. You will also see a lot of fluctuating in your temps because as the auger feeds fresh pellets and they begin to burn you’ll see a 5-10 degree spike before it balances back out.

@epikx1934
@epikx1934 22 дня назад
@@TonyaJones0788it should automatically prompt you on the app. If not search around through the app it's not too involved so you should be able to find where it has updates within the app

I would suggest getting a seal, I purchased a felt BBQ lid seal from Amazon its like putting on a sticker. That helped keep my temp regulated and the smoke comes out of the stack more than anything else some from the grease drain too and I used a automotive seal to plug the temp probe hole. The fire pit should have came with its own seal if not put one there too, it's like an oven seal.

Great video! I just bought one of these. Smoked my first rack of ribs on it. Set the smoker to 275, and i was getting temps from 230-310. Gotta get that figured out, but the ribs came out great! Also, with the grate in the hopper removed, has having those open holes had any negative effects? Lastly, where do you store your probes?
@BeginnersBBQ
@BeginnersBBQ 5 месяцев назад
I removed the grates from the hopper. Its much better with out it. Now on the temp, does it keep going up and down threw out the cook? what pellet brand are you using?
@blackhawkvenom5724
@blackhawkvenom5724 5 месяцев назад
@BeginnersBBQ Yeah, while the cook was happening the temp was all over the place. I'm using Lumberjack pellets. Used them in my old smoker with little issue.
@epikx1934
@epikx1934 22 дня назад
@@blackhawkvenom5724I put screws in the holes just for cosmetics. Putting an oven/BBQ seal on the lid will help. Also consider the environmental impact for example if it's sitting in direct sunlight. I would agree on trying different pellets, I've used a lot of different brands and they all perform slightly differently but it was worth trying all of them until I found one I consistently liked. Also I would remove the probes after each cook and sanitize/clean them off for more accuracy and food safety.
@agdon92
@agdon92 3 месяца назад
I noticed that you don't have that grate thing on top of the hopper. Do you recommend not having that? I know it's a convenient place for the probes, but it's hard to move the pellets around. Thoughts?
@BeginnersBBQ
@BeginnersBBQ 3 месяца назад
That why I took out the grates. It’s better without them.
@epikx1934
@epikx1934 22 дня назад
I usually just leave the probes draped across the front until I go to put the grill away I remove them and clean/sanitize them after each cook.

How is the temperatures on this smoker? Ive read since reviews that the temp during a long cook will fluctuate as much as 50 degrees. Is there a fix for that or is that pretty normal? I'm looking at this very smoker and it'll be my first ever one
@BeginnersBBQ
@BeginnersBBQ 2 месяца назад
I haven’t seen that on my grill. It could be that you’re looking at the previous model. The one I have and the one you are going to get are the newer model. They look the same just the control is a little different.
@kevinmartin8019
@kevinmartin8019 2 месяца назад
@BeginnersBBQ it's possible I saw that on the older ones. What's your experience with any over night cooks with a brisket or something similar? Does it maintain temp and even cooking?
@BeginnersBBQ
@BeginnersBBQ 2 месяца назад
I did a pork but for 10hrs and had no issues.
@epikx1934
@epikx1934 22 дня назад
I would say it's pretty normal. Compared to offset smokers top tier when it comes to smoking, those grills will fluctuate temps also, especially when the fire dies out lol. Anyways the convenience with a pellet grill is the PID controller will manage to temps so you can go do something else even watch, but this way the flame doesn't die out provided the hopper doesn't run out, and the temp is automatically adjusted when it gets too hot or too low just like any other grill. In my opinion it's the environment that affects the grill the most for example is it sitting in direct sunlight?

It needs to be on a 2.5GHz WiFi band or it won't work. It says this in the paperwork that came in the box and in red letters on the app when you try to connect. You can change this in the WiFi app or whatever managing app you use to configure WiFi settings, once on the app or whatever your using for the router WiFi service you either have the option to activate or name your 2.5GHz or call the Internet provider and have them do it for you. Once you connect to WiFi you can update the grill as well. The Pitt Boss app recently updated and so far I like the update.
