It's great to see how an experienced camper has chiseled their kit down. Thanks for sharing.

Love your channel and am currently binge watching your entire output. I'm in my fifties, clinically obese and have a dodgy (i.e. buggered) knee. In order to address these problems I have decided to walk the Ridgeway next year as it starts not too far from where I live. Your videos and advice are very helpful. I particularly like your budget vids as the inspiriation for my personal oddyssey started when my dear old Dad found an old pair of barely broken in boots in his garage. I have an old Lidl backpack (might actually buy a half decent one as the Lidl one is way too small), an Asda hoodie, some ratty old joggers, a cheap poncho and a New York Mets baseball cap to keep the sun off of my rapidly expanding bald patch. I did buy a new single Trekology walking pole which has already saved me several times from a faceful of mud during my "training" walks. However, I may now have to buy a tent as this wild camping lark looks like a lot of fun. The last time I wild camped was over thirty years ago on Dartmoor during Royal Navy basic training. Believe me, what you call a tarp and what we used to call a tarp differ by about 20 kilos! Please keep up the excellent work Sir!

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Wild camping sure is fun - give it a go! Worse case you don't like it and sell your tent on (probably for a profit in the current climate 😆). You don't need to walk/travel too far either to find a spot that feels like you're in the middle of nowhere.

Great video, nice to see what you pack for an over nighter, so easy to pack way to much gear.

Top tip wear cycling shorts, or base layer shorts for hiking instead of boxers. They are much more comfortable and prevent rubbing when sweaty

Nice idea on the lamb shank … first time I’ve seen someone do that … came out great 👍👍 looks like we have a very similar kit setup even down to the Trekology poles (which for the money frankly you can’t beat!!) my kit works for me and will probably work for you on long distance multi day hikes.. I find it’s a nice balance of weight and comfort👍👍 thanks for reviewing the stoves great advice for folk looking at getting into backpacking 👍👍

Your ridge line and prusiks should be two different gauges of paracord, the prusiks being smaller so they bite in more and don't slip as much on the ridge line in the wind etc
@daleyoutdoors

I only have one gauge 😆

Your kit is getting well sorted, and these videos are better every time. the stoves `look` fairly wind resistant with the bowl design, but I tend to use a foil windbreak anyway. i think the sheer weight of sausages kept the pan in place;) regarding water, i dont like a bottle i cant see through (nearly swallowed a centipede once)

this is why I like you, could have gotten yourself some free gear (specifically the olight) and was like nah fam I've got me decathlon one lol that did make me chuckle Real talk tho how the light tor compared to the exped in terms of comfort, im looking for a new mat and my thermasrest isn't doing it for me comfort wise lol (side sleeper)
@daleyoutdoors
@daleyoutdoors 11 месяцев назад
I find the light tour the comfiest by far. I think any mat with the same kind of ‘dimple’ design rather than baffles will be comfort for side sleepers
@mhpupacios
@mhpupacios 11 месяцев назад
Great video as always - interesting what you said about Olight - I have two ; one is a pen torch which is very useful for having as a standby however the refills are rubbish and when you come to use it it has always dried up . Luckily I found a manufacturer who makes a refill that fits and they have been cheaper and way more effective so far never letting me down. The other Olight is a torch that can be clipped into a head band ( never used as too heavy) but the battery life is rubbish and I am reluctant to spend ridiculous money on an official replacement battery - so will be on the hunt for another compatible rechargeable. With footprints I bought some plastic sheet used for window insulation ( the one you can heat shrink to fit window with hairdryer) it is very lightweight and super tough taking up very little space .

Another top video Daley. It's surprising just how little you need for a comfortable night. Compared to your set up, mine looks huge lol, and I think the only extra stuff I have is a 3 in 1 lantern, powerbank, clock, and a chair (And that's for car camping)

We have a similar camping style and ive based a lot of my kit on your videos / reviews. Ps i wont get rid of my nalgene bottle though as its reppin a retro Daley Outdoors LNT sticker on it 🤙🏼

I gave up on the hot chocolate sachets, I'm not a fan of the mess it leaves, already paranoid about finding water or carrying way too much otherwise. I have found tea powder, both with and without milk powder already in it. Nothing with sugar or sweeteners yet though.
