With the bite just starting to pick up in the spring, Tommy and I hit the 3 Rivers in Pittsburgh, Pa in search of some flatheads! We had a lot of action, all things considered. Though we didn’t hook into any monsters, a night packed full of flathead bites is always a win in my book!

Great stuff man! Love every video y'all release! I live in Fayette County, fish the Monongahela pretty heavy for Flatheads & surprisingly do well! Only have a little 14ft semi v bottom but I need to start making trips to the Ohio River pools, definitely during that Fall transition. I've got the cast net permits for all the rivers (obtaining Gizzard Shad) however I have not caught one damn Shad yet! Lol,....is that how you obtain your Shad Joe? Any tips on where to find them? I know they like current 🤔.

Thanks for watching Aaron. Yes, I use a cast net for shad. They can be tricky to find on the rivers around Pittsburgh, I'd suggest looking at Shenango Lake or Lake Arthur. Both of those lakes are loaded with shad.

Been fishing Pittsburgh for years now, been a while since I hooked into a nice flathead.. any recommendations? I’m also shore fishing

If I was shore fishing, I'd be fishing near/around any creek mouths and around any Industry. Like parked barges, barge cells, and even around bridge footers

How late into the fall to fish for them? I haven't targeted them after September in the past but I just got a 21 pounder on Saturday (10-9) in the 'gheny. Water was about 69 F.

I usually target them till the water get to 50°. Last year we were actually on then pretty good till mid-November. The weather this year is very similar so I'm hopeful we got a few more good weeks left

I typically target channel ledges(as the flats are transitioning and typically on the move). Also, rock cover is a great area to target. I like fishing around the old blow up dams along the ohio and Allegheny when the water is cold in the fall.

my wife i and r from pittsburgh (go steelers) i fish for catfish all the time now i live in southwest fl looking for a good place for some big boys (catfish) NOT BASS

Thanks for checking out the video! Look up Glenn Flowers on Facebook. He runs a successful guide service in Florida, (not sure exactly what part though) At the very least, he might be able to point you in the right direction.

Awesome sharing your experience but advertising it will make fishing decline I promise! We have some of the toughest fishing in the Ohio river valley and big flatheads are getting more rare to come across as the years go by If everyone caught and released it wouldn't be a issue but they don't Their buddy's pond needs them or they go to a paylake around here sad but true

I respect your concern. It's no secret that there's flatheads in western pa. Fortunately there's zero commercial fishing up here and our pools are heavily patrolled by fish commission.

Joe got smoked by Tommy!!! You don't see that very often lol... I've caught alot of fish on the outside rod by throwing it way out in the middle. Especially if there's 2 different drop offs. I've been fishing alot of areas like that lately. One ledge drops off around 32 to 38 feet then the next ledge drops off to the main channel 44 to 52 feet.

Setting here at the ramp looking at the river with a tear in my eye lol. I wish I had someone to give these shad to. Hope your weekend is better than mine brother.

@@hammer-downcatfishingwithj7223 a guy pulled up with little deep v set up for catfishing so I talked to him for a while and gave them to him. Send me your address tho and I'll send you some shad in the mail... Hot mail lol
