The three takeaways for me were: That the three flagships' cameras are competitive now; that many of the differences are in software; and that some of the preferences are subjective. It seems to me that at some point there will be be 'camera soft profiles' to mimic the look of competitors' phones. For my basic flagship camera needs I would be ok with any of these cameras. Beyond the practical side, Google has the most software toys to play with.

Wow, this was a very good comparison video! I think it was a close call between all three. The pixel is certainly no slouch, but it really comes down to low light capability vs. daylight capability. Overall, I think I like the pixel for No. 1 and iPhone No. 2. Also, I can’t help but factor in the other smart features of the pixel that seems to overpower the iPhone. This is coming from an Apple products consumer since 1983, so I’m certainly not playing favorites. ✌️

I think you should've compared Samsung's 3x zoom lens as well in video and night shots to make it more fair. Samsung has the advantage of two zoom lenses, with the other two phones only having one. Of course the 10x is going to be worse in the night shots, because it has lower aperture. But i think the 3x would keep up well with the other phones.
@Techtablets
@Techtablets 8 месяцев назад
It's hard because none of them match 5x vs 10x or 1x Vs 3x zoom. So this is why I either stuck to 1x or optical zoom max. If the S24 Ultra has 5x max only then this will make comparisons easier lol.

How so? It makes sense you can't compare optical vs digtial they both need to be one or the other otherwise it's unfair. I love how I spent 3 days on this and all people point out is stuff like this because fanboys want either manual mode or RAW for their phone Vs the others or different zoom levels that don't make sense like optical Vs mostly digital.
@bohusbogdan
@bohusbogdan 8 месяцев назад
@@TechtabletsI can say I understand to some extent your reasoning, but you can't pretend the Samsung doesn't have the 3x zoom at all, and act like only the 5x or 10x are important. That's what's good about Samsung - giving us more options than the others :)
@nicholasvaughn2386

@@Techtabletsso you are saying that it's easier to compare a 5x to a 10x instead of a 5x to a 3x lens? That argument doesn't hold water, and if you're going to all the trouble of making a video. You could have put 3x not photos in as well on the Samsung.

Fantastic video! Was waiting for your comparison.I'm glad you spoke about the over-sharpening/processing as I've noticed it a lot on my older Pixel 7 pro specifically and it's ruined some images. Marco: Clear win for the 8pro. Portrait shots: iPhone during that portrait shot since the LiDAR really went to work on keeping her loose hairs in focus unlike the S23U and Pixel, but I agree with the overall superior colours on the S23U. Lowlight stills by the docks: Lean iPhone again however the image would need just a touch of denoising, but the text throughout the shot is more naturally defined(Yamaha on the left and and the text on the TV in far right being present although not clear). Best case would be merging the 15PM and 8Pro in that shot lol.
@Techtablets
@Techtablets 8 месяцев назад
This terrible trend now of oversharpening yes is ruining some photos there is no going back once it's done. I would rather them too soft and if you want you could later sharpen it in post. While the iphone has the best stitching with portraits the colours are off too warm as always and then a bit oversharpened making my daughters lips look dry and cracked almost. A merged iPhone and Pixel night shot would be good!
@jg14gerhard_bar
@jg14gerhard_bar 8 месяцев назад
A second round of testing would be helpful if you were able to show case the respective 48mp, 50mp and 200mp capture modes. Would require a little more work to either document or showcase things like capture times since those shots need a little more time and stability
@Techtablets

Very useful comparison, overall. It seems the author tends to prefer more color saturation (not blown out, but perhaps HDR-like) in their pictures, which is something you can't easily avoid in Samsung phones. I prefer the more neutral looking Pixel 8 Pro photos and videos, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max looking good in some shots where it has a reasonable balance between more tone and neutral. I want to like the Samsung, but similar to my own Samsung model, contrast is usually lagging.

nice testing. I prefer the video on Pixel as it has less noise reduction, reminds me of the output digital still/video cams. Weirdly, the Pixel does not detect a face to automatically change the image settings for a more pleasing portrait/front camera video. I also tested the Pixel 8 vs iPhone 15 Pro Max (video coming soon - lots of editing still to do). Can confirm your findings for the most part. In my ranking the main cam is slightly better on the iPhone. Where the Pixel wins in terms of Zoom especially the in between zooms (meaning from 2x to 5x) the Pixel hands down destroys the iPhone with its super resolution zoom. At 5x I liked the not so processed photos of the iPhone better where the Pixel shines above 5x with its good processing. Though sometimes it can be a bit artificial especially in low light.

I still think the pixels colour rendering in still photos is the best, the iphone is just way to yellowy/warm, never looks realistic. The iphone actually has much improved masking in portrait mode that is actually the best ive seen probably because of lidar. But that pixel front facing camera is seriously garbage. 8 Pro seems to win. Samsung clearly has better low light, but they carry that algorithm across board so your face looked irradiated. The 8 Pro appears "DARKER" but looks like you could boost that more in post without blowing things out, where the iPHONE seems to be a happy middle ground, but less detailed than Samsung and Pixel. Fun fact, that I had to look up since I noticed "BLUE" lights in some parking lots around me, apparently that deters crime... NO site could go into how or why but that's the logic of it. Like if it were more ULTRAVIOLET, then I would say... maybe the drugs or counterfeit money would glow under those lights, or maybe Blue is good enough for that task as well. DON'T KNOW.

Awesome review like always! Off topic of the video. In the US early adopters of led lights from certain companies would turn blue overtime due to degregation of the components.

@@Techtablets It was one of those Scandinavian countries. So... NOT A LANGUAGE I SPEAK. But every article about it refused to justify it. Since I can't think of a psychological or neurological effect for it. Maybe the blue light messing with your internal clock... MAYBE... But I have played with my photo lights that do RGB and found that Blue and Red combined have a weird effect on color, it's not proper ultraviolet, but colors do change quite a bit under that kind of lighting. As for the Pixel 8 whatever, I think Google is trying to go for the more "RAW" look and expecting more post processing on your end to correct and balance it. Wonder if their non "PRO" model has that issue.

From what I can see, the supposed over-sharpening from the Pixel portrait shot is actually more detail from the sensor. Comparing the stitching on the t-shirt, the Samsung shows almost no detail, the iPhone has some but it isn't sharp, and the Pixel simply appears to have more resolution rather than being a sharpened lower-detail image. Her eyelashes are clearly defined by the Pixel, as are the catchlights.
@Techtablets

They are very close and the stitching best on the iPhone, but skin tones I prefered the S23 U however all subjective the pixel shot was very good.

No, that’s not more resolution. Do you know how cameras work? Go look at professional cameras and tell me if there’s more sharpness based on how big the sensor is. It’s over sharpened, Samsung is the absolute worse at this followed by Google.

Man Samsung is an oversharpened nightmare. Pixel is better. iPhone looks the closest to a mirrorless camera. Much easier to use the iPhone as a B camera for a videographer. Never use front facing cameras on any cell phone. Also, if you really want the best out of the camera, try ProCam. I cannot believe how much better the video and photos are without using the native camera app on my iPhone 15 ProMax. I do not like these camera comparisons though using the native phone apps because you have zero control over the ISO and shutter, so really hard to compare the sensors when the software is assuming the exposure. Need to use a manual 3rd party camera app to set each phone equally.

before, im praising huawei phones for their sharp zoom photos but now i realized that sharpening these zoom photos actually makes the 1x photos over sharpened also. I'm glad that with the new update huawei toned down over sharpening the 1x photos. i don't care if zoom photos turn out to be soft as long as the details are there. i still love my huawei mate 50 pro and i think this phone's camera is still way ahead of these three, especially with the physical aperture. there's so much i can do with the physical aperture. it's like im using a DSLR. and none of these three phones can do that

4:10 look at the road on pixel. It's not ready to be released yet but they did. Pixel got a ton of strange judder, artifacts, detail loss on spontaneous places both in pictures and video. Also some strange clairity effect. Also the pixel 8 is to sharpened, just like the others but when it get it right, it's amazing 👏 Samsung even more oversharpened and iphone to much contrast and old sensor now. Could you please shoot in raw in both pictures and video and compare? No one does it and iphone looks so darn good with it, want to see how the other do.
