@@scaryifliteral Hehe, what did you expect - you called their new 2000$ "baby" hideous 😱😜 The looks is kinda growing on me, the first time I saw the leaks my thought was "This can't be true, this thing is so _hideous_ ..." Now I could imagine running around with one, although it's not winning any design competition in my mind :) But what deters me from buying is the form factor: I don't understand why every manufacturer keeps doing tall phones instead of wide. Reading and typing is so much easier on a wide phone, and it doesn't disturb you in your pocket so much - with a tall phone, you sometimes can't raise your leg fully, because the phone sticks into your waist... 🤷🏼♂️ Vertical space is not really important, you just scroll. The horizontal space is what counts (at least for me).
So if you think the phone looks ugly, give it away. How about that? Give it to one of your subscribers. I mean it looks ugly. That's what you said. You got to be a man of your word so give it away. I'll take it. You want to give it away. I'll take it. I'll use it. How about that? Of course you're not going to reply to me, you know😊
For me it looks much better than the original fold and it's a beautiful phone. Plus, I believe that the leather skin that you added made the phone uglier.
Noticed some odd app behavior that required me to clear the cache for the first day, but that hasn't happened at all after that initial day. I love the 9Pro Fold. I think I might be in the minority, but I really love how it looks. It's been a joy to use.
My biggest gripe, the bezel ..YES!!! I'm not sure why it bothered me so much as well but the size of the front of the phone to screen ratio it felt like a missed opportunity for making the bezels lesser
Kinda found this channel by accident when searching any info about this specific phone. Biggest problem for people seem to be the visual look of the phone but I vibe with it. It’s a fresh look when I’ve been running iPhones past 10 years and iPhones look like ass but work well. If Pixel 9 fold keeps working well with people and inner screen doesn’t cock up, I will order my first ever pixel phone. Great videos dude! Keep them running.
It's not the look only it's also the user interface having two widgets that cannot be moved and then having 0 ability of three apps multitasking beyond two apps is not working plus dual streaming videos doesn't work and if you take a screenshot while you're playing a video it will stop also trim a video and you will notice it takes longer then phones with last year's processor. These are things that could have been addressed by Google a year ago and they are not doing it. They are the maker of Android, and they don't even have a desktop replacement for DEX.
Have such hard time deciding between the pixel 9 pro fold and the Galaxy fold 6. I love the pixel software experience, but I think the Samsung much more powerful, but I hate the bloat and the skinny front screen. Hate decisions
I personally really love the look and feel of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. It has an iPhone-like look and feel which is probably what appeals to me as a long-time iPhone user.
Doesn't matter the Tensor processors will get close but not surpass snapdragon for at least 3 generations. Regardless, no amount of hardware advancement will make them preferable, when they impose a lockdown of their biased search bar widget & "At a Glance" widget. Add to that, is their abandonment of multitasking beyond two apps. The maker of Android has not addressed what a foldable can do, but instead focused on AI for dummies. Give them phone slab owners pretty photo image tricks. They also abandoned their Android desktop, with no answer to Samsung Dex. These are Google's real issues, not their phone's hardware.
I'm just surprised how basically _every_ reviewer of the original Pixel Fold said how they liked the form factor - and what does Google do? Of course they change the only point that unanimously got compliments... 🤷🏼♂️
Yeah ... That's precisely why i decided to extend my insurance another year and stick with my PF1. if i had to go to the taller slab phone profile, I'd go back to the galaxy z fold line. I loved my z fold 4, it had so many more features than the PF, but the passport form factor seals the deal for me. its why i chose to stay with the surface duo 2 for so long, given its many flaws.
@@velocity211Google design team has been infiltrated by Samsung knights to sabotaged their design with f00l1sh ideas of same cheap plastic glossy bezels and deformed outer bezel, instead of a wider or centered front screen. Myself I had to buy the pixel fold off eBay as it was not available in Canada Now with the new food I have to agree with you. I totally prefer the first pixel fold over the new one Love your channel man
I honestly love the look and think the hinge protrusion gives it a nice look - especially on the front of the Porcelain version. I have the Obsidian version and it's like the protrusion is not even there.
So far I am very disappointed in the lack of additional on-device software features. I know that they are pushing Gemini live and there's some other AI features but nothing else on the software.
Seeing some issues on the subreddit. Micro cracks under screen, bad mura on outer display, laggy gaming performance(isn’t a gaming phone so that one is kind of expected for me) and then just overall not being as smooth navigating the phone as some other folds out right now. There were a couple more I can’t think of off the top of my head.
I think the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a great looking device. I think the camera bump looks much more refined than the huge circular bulge on the OnePlus or Honor offerings. Overall, I prefer the 9 Pro Fold's aesthetics.
@@TheRealMrMoonlight I didn't think the camera bump is the issue. The cover screen with the extra wide.. Thing.. On the left, makes it look off balance. Looks like it started growing wings. 🤷🏼♂️
This is all sidetrack issues to not see the real problem. It's not the look. It's actually the user interface having two widgets that cannot be moved, and then having 0 ability of three apps. They are the maker of Android, and they don't even have a desktop replacement for DEX.
I would give up the few millimeters extra of the internal screen to get rid of that awful, unsymetrical bezel on the outside. I haven't seen anything from the Pro Fold that would make me move off of my OnePlus open, but even if I did, I dont' think I could live with that outside screen look.

Your honesty is invaluable in todays tech review landscape. Dont worry about fanboy reactions from Samsung Knights or Pixel fanboys. Just keep sharing your honest opinions for the real consumers!
We gotz the Samsung knights & Pixel Peasants. 😛 Then we gotz the "China Chumps" gang, showing off their ultra thin spyware foldablzz. Then we gotz the liberated lonerz, the Oneplus Openerz 😜
The camera don't bother me, i just don't care how they round the corner on the outer screen with that big chunk of metal showing. I really like how the xiaomi mix fold 4 has rounded the corners on the hinge edge. Looks so nice and premium.
I love how the phone looks and the bezel can be hidden with a case. Also, coming from an S22 Ultra that is a 6.8in screen, I'm adjusting to small this front screen is. I love it.
I cannot agree more, giving up on the 'Passport format' is such a step back. Reminded me of the Surface Duo (that I miss a lot). The one handed mode makes it or break it. I am sticking to the Pixel Fold (original) just for this reason.
Hey Shane, thanks for the video. I will say that I'm oddly excited about this new fold. I did like my pixel fold but this new one is lighter. It feels better and I'm enjoying it so far. I did get a whole day worth of use finishing off my day after 15 hours of having this thing unplugged with over 50% battery life left. That never used to happen with the original pixel fold. I hope everybody enjoys their new pixel fold.
The Fold department has not been addressed with any such updates to their weak UI. Only their regular slabs getting any attention. If you need more, look to Samsung or better yet OnePlus Open
1:15 complete agree about that camera bump. The horizontal centering meant SO MUCH. And I agree about the side chonk too. I feel like the front screen bezel may have even been acceptable if there wasn't just that side chonk. Letting that screen widen into the unused left space would have at least gotten us closer to symmetry.
Happy you talked about temperature. I had to return the galaxy s24 because it was to warm for me. I am thinking of getting iPhone 16 because it has vapour chamber.
I don't think the camera bump looks good either. It's so strange they took the Pixel 4's bump and made it worse. Also, seriously, why didn't they just stick with the camera module look the other Pixel 9 phones have?
I bought the phone and I really love everything about it. It's not heavy, I love the ai features. It looks good to me and I can't wait for more cases to come out.
I know this is an unpopular opinion but i actually quite like the camera bump. Because it crosses the midline it doesnt really rock or wobble on a flat surface. Its big for sure, but it definitely looks more "Google" to me than even the gen 1 fold camera bar.
Yeah, it's actually my favourite camera bump on current gen foldable. I had a Z Fold 3 & 5 and HATED the cameras on that. the bump stays out of the way of my hand when I'm actually using the thing. S-tier. I agree with the side bezel on the front being ugly, especially compared to the OP Open, but I much prefer the actual use experience over the Z Fold 5 & 6 (never used an OP O)
@@aidanleenstra1605I'm glad at least someone agrees with me! I can't disagree about the hinge/bezel, but I vastly prefer this normal phone outside screen form factor to either the z fold or even the Gen 1 pixel fold if I'm being honest so it doesn't actually end up being a huge deal to me.
Thanks Shane. I watched the video on my Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which I received yesterday. I absolutely love it. It does feel like I'm holding a flagship size phone. Your comments about one handed use sound fair. I always type with 2 thumbs, going back to BBOS days so, it is not relevant to me. I really like the look when closed at all. In fact, when I opened the package, my better half said right away, I want one. As you said, the pics are surprisingly good. They're far better than I expected. I shared pics of one of our cats with other Pixel owners and the response was that the original looked very good. The version after I used zoom enhance was stunning. I appreciate your videos and coverage of the world of Pixels and competitors.
That thick bezel on the outer display on that one sized I appreciate. Hoping case makers utilize that for better adhesive for that side. I went though SOOO many cases on my Z Fold 4 because the cases were so thin and I kept breaking them
My next phone will definitely be a foldable, i think i'm gonna hold off on the Fold 9 and wait to see what One Plus and Samsung does wit their next devices
I almost returned mine today. Adding a case turns it into a massive brick. Plus the front screen is so much smaller than my 8 Pro XL. Plus I'm not a fan of how RU-vid is formatted; it places the comment section to the right in about a inch and a half space (super narrow). I like the bigger unfolded screen, but im not sure it's worth the flaws
Would you please do a comparison with the Duo/Duo 2? I feel like I'm getting ready to move on from my beloved Duo, but I'm not sure which folding phone to switch to next.
Hey Shane, just want to say i follow alot of channels on youtube, ive recently gotten way into folding phones, and discovered your channel. And wanted to say your my fave channel. Unlike many other channels that just read spec sheets of products, you actually give good personal and insightful opinions. Just wanted to say keep up the good work and thanks for the content
Ah i just got mine... Question... Is the Samsung Z fold 6 the only phone that you can have different inner display apps than the outer display? Meaning The apps on the outer display are not in the same spot when you open up the phone or actually on this pixel fold there in the same spots on the inner display is the outer display but the z fold 6. Lets you put them a different locations?
Regarding the camera bump on the left side, I remember a Google official explaining this is to counterbalance the weight of the hinge on the right. Makes sense to me. Shane, does it feel well balanced in your hand?
I disagree about the looks. I think it's just fine! The camera bump and bezzles don't bother me at all. The only thing I'm disappointed with so far is that Gmail doesn't open with the tablet layout. I also love the hinge. And I think there's a significant improvement in the crease.
They made totally illogical decisions with their design. It was as if they were sabotaged with rediculous design parameters. They could have centered the screen. They could have kept their own camera bump, instead of choosing ancient iPhone square design. They should have NOT kept those cheap glossy plastic bezels on inside main screen. Just rediculous choices at odds with common sense!
Hated the design of the P9P Fold camera since day 1. I don't get why it couldn't have the P9 Pro camera bump. And I was worried about the one hand use. I kinda struggled with with the OG PF at first but the small screen is easy as hell to reach across once you get used to the weight. And it doesn't have a dbrand case 😭
The one app that I wish did not use tablet mode is RU-vid. It seems that the width of this phone is right on the edge of enabling that tablet mode which leaves the comments on the right side to be super narrow. Also I enjoyed on my OPO scrolling comments on the bottom while viewing the video full screen on the top. It feels like wasted space on this phone. Tablet mode with RU-vid makes a lot more sense in landscape. The bezels and overall appearance of the cover display will likely lead to me returning this device. The OPO feels so much further ahead in terms of PPI, bezels and crease. I am constantly noticing the individual pixels on the inner display… maybe I hold it too close to my face lol but never an issue with OPO.
As an iPhone user, but someone who is fascinated by the foldables particularly book style, I have been finding my pixel 9 Pro fold quite laggy in some apps for example Evernote. I recognise that it might not be the phone or the processor. It might be the Android version of the app. I am also trying to get used to Android but have find the pixel much more user friendly than Samsung's. So far I am impressed with this pixel fold but I am debating my use case as I continue with my main daily driver as an iPhone. But loving the form factor of the foldable for content consumption and large screen.
Hey, Shane. I have a theory and since you're experienced and have the devices, please ponder on it and share your thoughts if you find something interesting. Maybe the reason for the designs of the Pixel 9, Pro and Pro 9 XL is because this design was needed for the Pro 9 Fold (hinge and folded form). Then and only then it made sense that all 9 series have the same frame design to keep all of the series' cohesive. Thanks.
The camera bump looks normal. Weird that you think it looks ugly but do you like the open's camera bump? I'm an open owner and oneplus screwed up with that bump, it's ridiculous Design-wise and annoys me. The only complaint I have with pixel 9 fold is the bezels. What I envy is the pixel 9 fold will probably have plenty of cases with hinge protection. Oneplus has crap for cases available on the open. At least good protective cases. There's maybe 2 that I like.
You got the Pixel Watch 3 ordered? What size did you choose? I'm around the little below 16 cm wrist gang and felt tempted by the 45 but honestly i think it will be too big. If you follow any watch guide it is definitely too big. But the bigger screen and especially battery is tempting. Although funny enough Google shows the same battery life for both models. What are the wrist sizes out there? What size are you opting for?
I like the aesthetics of the new phone the bezzle makes it unique. I dont know, to me it reminds me of a PDA. Then you open it and the screen is beautiful. I dont mind the double pill camera bump. Id rather that than to have 4 cameras in a rowacross the back of the phone. Now it was nice for the pixel fold to be shorter before. That was really a plus fpr a lot of people with finger reach problems.
Those dual pane Google app updates had better be available soon on other portrait foldables. It would be complete BS if Google kept that to the Pixel 9 Fold only. RU-vid and RU-vid Music are paid services - I should get the proper UI on my Fold 5 just as the P9 Fold does.
I was taken aback by the bezels at first as well. But after seeing how great the phone is, I seemed to have tricked myself into thinking it's not ugly anymore 😂 Not to play devil's advocate here, but my fat fingers might need them bezels
Craig... Admit it... You are still in love with the physical side of the Surface duo... I mean people bang on about how thin the honor magic v2 /v3 is... But the surface duo did that years ago... If only ONLY Microsoft would make a dual screen with a front screen... Imagine even a duo with a Motorola razr 50 plus screen on the front.... And modern processors.... Wow... #makeithappenmicrosoft.. 😎😎😎
I dont mind the back... i just can't move past the front. I was going to trade in my Fold 6 for this due to a massive trade in boost. However, the fact that the front is not symmetrical has put me off enough to stay with the fold 6. That and the 2x different customization options for both screens. That being said, it seems Google is improving much quicker than samsung... if Samsung's next phones are again minor improvements in the wrong areas, i will move to Google as i am confident their next one will be the balanced fold i am after.
2:08 The protruding hinge frame on the edge of the Pixel 9 Pro foldable is not a massive problem but its absence can polish things up for a more cosmetic look. If the typical customers has nothing to compare the Pixel fold protruding edge, it wouldn't be a problem to them. But the minute the customers is shown a comparison with one like the Honor Magic foldable they'll be instantly jealous. Now you've open their minds to a more cosmetically pleasing external screen. So the bezel itself is not the problem it is the presence of the hinge that stands out (conspicuously). 2:56 The Z fold 6 outer display wins first place, then OnePlus, and third is the Pixel 9 Pro foldable, for the more symmetrical bezels and a non-existing hinge. 5:02 A one handed mode would be very handy and convenient for many people.
Has anyone else noticed that the two halves of the inner display touch when closed? Every time I open the device I have a spot on both sides that reminds me of a Rorschach test
I laughed when you said "it's just ugly". That was the very last thing I thought you would say about it. Never mind, you may get used to the bezels, and the camera bump and having to shift your grip to use it.
I love the OG pixel fold. Best design ever. But due to the weight, I sold it. I got the Z Fold 6 and couldnt be happier. Im not a fan of the new pixel fold.
Gemini was like, one-handed mode is not a feature, but maybe a custom ROM in the future will support it. Uggh. Well, for me, it is not an issue, but for some it is.
I found the tablet mode on Gmail is available not only in horizontal view. I've found this on other apps as well. Kinda annoying that can't have the "tablet" experience in both orientations
That screen crease is a deal breaker for me. Maybe I am too OCD, but I could not use a screen that has a crease in it. It would drive me crazy having everything warped. Until they figure out a way to 100% eliminate that, I'll never own a foldable.
It sounds crazy but I prefer the original Pixel Fold design. It was one of the highlights of the device, on top of a folding phone finally having PixelOS and a Pixel camera. Now there is less of a reason for me personally to get this device. Glad I was not impulsive this time and pre-ordered this one at launch. Happy with the Fold6, OG Pixel Fold and Vivo X Fold3 Pro. Thanks for the video, Shane.
Dude, I'm doing that look back meme right now with the Pixel 9 pro fold looking at me in disgust as I check out the Honor Magic v3 that just walked by. It's better in every way, and cheaper! And it actually has band 71 support for T-Mobile 600mz 5g. It's $300 cheaper than the 9 pro fold... It's better in every way.
The old phone is shorter and wider. This is why the side bezel is less noticeable. The new phone being narrower draws the eyes to all things vertical, including that unsightly bezel..
I *hate* the proportions of the original Pixel Fold. That's what kept me from jumping ship from Samsung foldables last year. That and the science project build quality. I can't wait for my 9 Pro Fold to arrive.
Listen it looks way better than my OnePlus camera back and fold 6 for damn sure. The front bezel is bad but not worst than original Pixel was so bad and ugly Google had change it. Now my two biggest gripes are the charging is abysmal and there's no 1tb options. The camera and videos are serviceable but should be way better for damn near 2k! I love it!
