This is my basic tutorial to get you started with Pixinsight and get your first pretty picture. It mainly focuses on stacking and calibration. Please see my next tutorial ( • Video ) for more details on processing. If you are an absolute beginner using a color camera and don't want to spend hours watching complicated tutorials, this is the video for you. It uses the WeightedBatchPreprocessing script to automate all the calibration and stacking so you can work on the fun stuff like processing. Let me know in the comments if this is helpful and if you want me to make more videos like this.

Thanks for the tutorial, my only minor issue is that there is a lot of jumping past various things by using we don't need to worry about this. Far better to to say don't worry about this because - and give a quick reason. For example there was no mention of cosmetic Correction to remove hot pixels or a clear method to remove the coloured background. Hiding it by unlinking the RGB only hides it.

Thanks friend. I appreciate the feedback as it helps me improve. I wanted to make this video as easy to follow as possible for absolute beginners hence the "we don't need to worry about this". I was planning to make a more detailed video shortly after which explained all of the other settings but got too busy. I hope to make that video soon and explain all the missing parts. Clear skies :)

What is the file type of the Lights you import -- FITS, JPEG, TIFF?

Hi. The light files I used are .CR2 files which are Canon RAW files (produced by Canon cameras like my 6D). The process would be the same for any file type.

Nice and easy to follow, I'm not a pixinsight convert however I still use Photoshop and astropixel processor user which works for me. It's the nomenclature and the fussy way it works that puts me off pixinsight. However If I ever decide to go this way I'll be coming back to this easy to follow tutorial
