PIZZA ART needs to be a trend! Decorated foccacia has been floating around for a while. Foccacia is more of a bread, though. Thick and usually served like a bread and not a stand alone meal. I'm more of a thin crust pizza fan, and due to the short baking time, thin crust pizza lends itself perfectly to be decorated.Toppings, even greens, will retain their color well.
The possibilities are endless and it's so much fun - for kids and adults alike.
This is my go-to pizza dough recipe, but of course any other pizza dough recipe will work just as well.
3 1/2 cups flour (plus more if dough is too sticky)
1 1/2 cup warm not hot) water
1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon yeast
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons olive oil (plus more to cover dough)
Add all ingredients at once and knead into a smooth dough.
OR start with a pre-dough (as seen in the video)
Rub dough ball with olive oil and let rest, covered in a bowl, for an hour or until doubled in size.
*Dough can be made the day before and rested in the fridge, which will enhance the taste. Allow to retain room temperature before making pizza.
*Dough freezes well.
Decorate it into a masterpiece!
Bake at 450F for 15 minutes or until crust is slightly browned.
ENJOY!
