The historic restaurant, located in the heart of Vico Equense, in the province of Naples, is famous throughout the world for the invention of the "pizza by the metre" which has met with great success due to its unmistakable flavour, the authenticity of the products from which it is made and for the exclusive shape, becoming known in Italy and abroad.
Pizza by the meter was born in the 1930s, thanks to the intuition of Luigi Dell'Amura, alias Gigino, a man who with his intelligence, imagination, intuition and tireless industriousness revolutionized the way of making pizza;
the idea of making pizzas that had different "sizes" depending on the number of people at the table was born from the need to serve many diners in the shortest possible time while maintaining a high quality standard. From the 1960 "pizza a metro" patent, another important step was the creation of the "Pizza University", i.e. a real school that radically changed the criteria for processing flour for the preparation of pizza and, above all , the way of understanding this product, fruit of the ingenuity and art of the pizza maker.
Today the "University of pizza" is a point of reference in the national gastronomic panorama.
Some of the special tastes of the restaurant da Gigino are pizza with meat sauce, meatballs and tufts of ricotta; the nerano pizza with zucchini, fior di latte, zucchini flowers and provolone del monaco and the Sognami pizza with culatello from Irpinia, Apulian burrata, lemon and pepper.
